How can you have two teams that you consider to be pretty much polar opposites both be made for the the playoffs? Not trying to be a confrontational or anything, I really am just curious.

Just to make it clear, I wasn't saying that anyone posting was xenophobic but merely commenting on the fact that if there was a dislike for Europeans that cannot by definition be racism because European countries have many different races throughout but it can be xenophobia which deals with foreigners or people of other nationalities rather than their race, but I was not accusing anyone of actually being xenophobic. \

Funny how you see things, you always claim that the Wings are not gritty, are too soft, and always back down. Yet in the last two years they won the Stanley Cup and went to game 7 of the SCF . . . and yet Philly is built for playoff hockey. One question, what are the Wings built for?
-
Or more precisely a xenophobe: A person unduly fearful or contemptuous of that which is foreign, especially of strangers or foreign peoples.

These stats always crack me up, interesting but not relevant to Tuesday's game in the slightest. First off, how many times in the last 50 years have the Wings been in a game 7 on the road? Very few. Also how does the play of the 1965 or 1966 Wings have any relevance to the play of the 2009-10 Wings. Anyway here's to the Wings crushing the Yotes Tuesday! :beerbuddy:

Speaking of deserving the finger. I agree that the Wings are a class organization and as such will not try to low ball Lids - that does not mean however, that Lids will not voluntarily go into negotiations with the intent of getting a lower salary for the team. Stevie did it and it would not surprise me if Lids did too.

I still remember this game though: :nonono: :nonono: :nonono:

Those 57 points would generally mean a higher seeding which can be very beneficial in the playoffs and also mean that the Wings don't have to ride their stars quite so hard (preemptive . . . that's what she said) which should lead to a better rested team come playoff time.

MVP: Dats Sleeper: Williams . . . oh wait never mind, I thought you meant something else by "sleeper"

Could be wrong but I don't see any way that Babs takes Miller out for May, unless Miller screws up. He has been rock solid on the PK and a great PK has been one main reasons for the Wings recent success. He helps the PK tremendously which makes him a real asset especially in post season. Helm played 7 regular season games in the 07-08 season and that was his first post season experience as well.

Is anyone else pulling hard for the Blue Shirts?

I figure that Bettman will just call it a tie between the two teams and since he can't decide who should get in will just give a second playoff spot to the Penguins. -
That's what I figured (and sounds like something I would do), it just made me laugh.

Except you kind of have to talk about just the one game in Ozzy's case because it is his first start since January 27th, 68 days between starts makes it kind of hard to get a realistic grasp of how a player is playing. And amazingly there are about 4 threads about Ozzy since yesterday, I doubt that is a coincidence. That would be impressive if Howard got nominated for the Selke, perhaps he will get nominated for the Norris and Adams awards as well. That is true, Howard would not get the kind of slack that many here are discussing for Osgood and that is largely because before this year Howard has proven nothing and as you said Osgood has been an amazing goalie in the past, therefore he gets more leeway (also you have to keep in mind Osgood has had subpar seasons recently and then played lights out in the playoffs so unlike Howard he has a record to backup the grace he is given). That is not a knock on Howard, who has been stellar this year, but merely the reality of a goalie who had a .926 and .930 SV% and 2.01 and 1.55 GAA the last two year respectively.

 Couldn't agree more. The Stars do it too and it always annoys me.

That always makes me laugh. I assume that some fans of each team in the playoffs will bet on their team to win the playoffs. I never understand is it bad luck for all the teams then, and if so which team has the most bad luck? Is it the team that has the most fans bet on them or the team whose fans be the most total money on them? j/k

Gotta agree fighting in hockey does make the game more entertaining and like most other things is good for a team at times and bad at others. May was a huge boost to the team earlier but definitely needed to be the one cut as the season progressed. To me that is why you can't deal with absolutes on whether a team ought to dress an enforcer, sometimes they should and it is very helpful and some times (mostly either because of cap or roster restrictions) one is not helpful. I agree the 1997 team was incredible but very improbable to have another one of those teams as there was no salary cap in 1997. That seriously changes the ability to create a team like those. That's why taking one factor or event and attributing it to the success or failure of a team is silly, there are far too many variables involved.

Isn't that the truth. I love reading them when the Wings are playing well but hate to when they are in a bad stretch. It is a great time to be excel heading into the playoffs.

Has anyone else noticed a change in the league's attitude towards

Yeah, I can't remember exactly when it was but at least 7 years ago and a little bit more if I remember correctly. -
Wow, quite the attack, we have always had civil posts in the past, sorry whatever I did pissed you off so bad. I don't think there was a need to delve into name calling or state that everyone had to watch me get all pissy (which is pretty pissy itself and ignores the fact that my post was polite and that I even acknowledged that his favorite player was "exceedingly talented.") but whatever. I was not attempting to belittle his opinion at all I was honestly questioning how he "cannot stand the Capitals because of one person, and one person only." He cannot stand the Capitals solely because of Boudreau and partially because Boudreau whines. I acknowledged in my post Crosby was talented but was curious of how he could reconcile disliking a coach because he whines and yet think Crosby is the greatest thing going. He answered the question and had a reasonable explanation for his sentiments, Crosby gets a pass to some degree in his book because he is in his early 20s whereas Boudreau is 60. I was genuinely asking, partially because I wish I could like Crosby, I think he is amazingly talented but cannot stand that he always seems to be whining. It was a simple question based upon his post and previous posts, it received a legitimate answer from Carmen I don't see what your problem was, but again sorry it bothered you so much. edit: grammar

That's the truth. Who knows maybe Leino will excel somewhere else but the fact is that he wasn't even average here. Sometimes a player getting traded or something else major like that will shake a guy up. Comparing what he does in the future on another team is no real indication of what he would have done here. Take Miller for example waived by another team and yet has done well here.
