Onsides and Offsides Rule - Control or No Control

According to the NHL Rule #83.1 However, a player actually controlling the puck who shall cross the line ahead of the puck shall not be considered “off-side,†provided he had possession and control of the puck prior to his skates crossing the blue line. Therefore, a player is considered onsides if he has possession and control of the puck before his skates cross the bule line even if he is skating backwards.

The "stats" are the amount of time that the fighters are playing - you said: How can you gripe and act as if it is not relevant to actually show the ice time rather than just spouting of something that isn't true and that you cannot back up with "stats" i.e. reality. I love how you put the word ARE in all caps as if I said that they weren't playing in the playoffs (which I didn't) rather than actually address what I said which is that they are not getting "good time" (again your words) but rather getting minimal time at best. Oh yeah and I don't think you know what ergo means therefore or consequently which doesn't make sense with your sentence. I think you meant either aka or i.e. Edit: bold the word good

Rafalski, Draper, Kopecky won't play Sunday

HE is such a moron, they should take his name of the Cup from last year, if it weren't for him we would have won 16 straight. I wonder if Kenny and Co. ever considered so guy sitting at his computer with no experience for coach, I can't believe they didn't take that option, it seems so logical.

I tried to tell him the exact same thing in another thread but he still maintains that Homer is a coward, selfish, and has no heart. There is not really any convincing him, he has decided to despise the players on this team and will stand by that even against the evidence.

Rafalski, Draper, Kopecky won't play Sunday

Coach Mike Babcock said Justin Abdelkader will replace Kopecky."Because he'll run over people," Babcock said of Abdelkader. "We expect him to play hard like (Darren) Helm. He's on the forecheck and he's a physical guy. He scored 23 goals for them (Grand Rapids) this season and was one of their best players in the playoffs."

I figure that he will have Hudler center the 3rd line and Helm the 4th.

He plays LW. Helm will center the line (I would think).

I find it odd that they keep saying that Raffi is day to day and then on Friday they announce that he won't play on Sunday. Must not be that close if they know 2 days out that he can't play.

I don't think that there are that many fighters getting good playoff time especially in their roles as a fighter. No one has had more than 1 fight so far in the playoffs so I wouldn't say there has been that much. There has been 58 playoff games and only 14 fights so roughly 1 fight every 4.1 games. Parros has been on the ice a total of 38:50 for the entire playoffs, Getzlaf had 9 second more ice time in one game, 38:59 in game two of this series, then Parros' time on the ice for the entire playoffs. In fact, Parros has less average TOI for the playoffs than Chelios does.

What does that even mean? My assumption would be not much, just another pathetic attempt to get away from discussing the facts since you can't. Nice dodge and way to throw something irrational and irrelevant to cover up ignorance. If they are so wonderful why shouldn't they play. You brag on guys that can't and won't play in this series and trash nonstop guys that can and will. Again more bull crap that you throw out there. You rarely discuss the topic you try to turn them all into discussions about fighting rather than discussing what they were actually about. You're right you have no idea if NFM has been to a hockey game but you are the one that brought it up and rhetorically and moronically asked if he had ever been to a game. You act so offended that I called you out on what you said. In case you can't remember what you just typed here it is You asked it not for a genuine answer but to be condescending, rude, and disparaging. Don't get pissy and act all offended when you get called out for your jack ass behavior.

    Getzlaf

From the time that Niedermayer made it a two goal game they actually had 9 minutes and 57 seconds left in the third period. In that 9 minutes and 57 seconds Getzlaf played exactly 1 second. He sat for 7 minutes and 23 seconds AFTER the ducks made it a two point game before he came on for 1 second and Z scored the empty netter. Roughly 10 minutes is plenty of time to score two goals and I cannot imagine the ducks throwing in the towel at that point, especially when you consider how important game 4 was (a 3-1 lead would be hard to come back from) and how demoralizing it would be for the Wings if they did manage somehow to come back.

    Getzlaf

I don't think that is what it is for a couple of reasons (I don't disagree that maybe they should have but I don't think that is actually why they did it). First look at Getzlaf's 3rd period shifts: Started Ended Duration 0:27 1:20 00:53 2:16 2:46 00:30 4:52 5:59 01:07 9:51 10:03 00:12 17:26 17:27 00:01 They played Getzlaf 4 shifts in the 3rd period while the score was 5-2 (the 4th shift was the PPG by Niedermayer to bring it to 5-3). After they got within one goal they only played Getzlaf 1 shift (the shift where Z got the empty netter). They played Getzlaf a lot more when the game was further out of reach than they did when it was a two goal game. The first half of the third period the ducks were down by 3 goals and Getzlaf played 4 shifts for 2:42 seconds but the second half of the 3rd period when they were only down two goals they only played him 0:01 second. He didn't play for almost 6 1/2 minutes after they cut the lead to two. If they wanted to rest him they would have after the Samuelsson goal made it a 3 goal lead but they didn't his ice time didn't dramatically diminish until they got within two goals. Also, Perry and Ryan have played major minutes so far this season as well but their average ice time did not change much in the 3rd period (Ryan's went down about a minute but Perry's actually went up). Both Ryan and Perry took 4 shifts after the halfway point of the 3rd period but Getzlaf only took one and it was just for 1 second. If they were going to rest their guys those two needed the rest as well.

QFT It always seems to me that when you have to resort to those types of comments its because can't argue or articulate an opposing point so you revert to third grade "I'm rubber you're glue" tactics. Edit* Grammar

Yeah but when they advanced to the second round and began playing the defending Cup champions the ducks played him the first game and after they lost promptly yanked him from the lineup. Additionally in the 7 games he has played in the playoffs he has only gotten into 1 fight. Kopy and Ericcson have fought just as much as Parros has. He also had 0 goals, 0 assists, averaged 5:32 TOI per game, and only 8.3 shifts per game. Compare that to Chelli (who is our last defenseman, only in because of two injuries to our D core, and has been getting ripped as useless on these boards) he has averaged 7:16 TOI per game and 10.3 shifts per game. Our guy who is 47 years old, is only in the game because of multiple injuries to other players, and only suited up 28 games the entire season is averaging 25% more ice time then Parros has in the playoffs. I wouldn't exactly say he has been an essential cog in the ducks post season.

So Parros is not good enough to play this series and here is something you said about Downey last week: So your idea in the quarter finals for the Stanley Cup is to take up two roster spots for these guys for what reason?

Yeah NFM I'll bet you've never even been to a hockey game! I'll bet you have never laced up a pair of skates or even stepped on the ice. I added this type of stupid comment to the Dead To Me thread the other day.

Micah, I'm so shocked that you have such negative things to say about the Wings. You usually have such positive things to say about players on the Wings roster. Hence the question asked if you have seen him lately. He has very little value against a team like Detroit. Edit: * Added additional derogatory comments by Micah about "his favorite" team.

Great job by Kopy, wish he had know about the lefty but oh well. Great job, I like that they removed the helmets and squared up. You could tell he didn't know Beauchemin was left handed by the way he grabbed on to his jersey originally and after that he was never in a position to do much. Appearantly the are going to run tests on Kopy to make sure everything is ok: Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Kopecky will undergo tests today to determine if he sustained any more damage Thursday during a third-period fight with Anaheim's Francois Beauchemin.Kopecky, his right cheek swollen, said he felt OK and his vision was good after Beauchemin battered him with a flurry of punches. Kopecky will have X-rays and a CT scan. The club will be cautious. Defenseman Andreas Lilja hasn't returned from a concussion after getting punched in the chin by Nashville's Shea Webber on Feb. 28. "When you take a punch to the head it's always scary, so we'll see,'' Kopecky said. "Right now I don't know (the damage). I feel all right.'' It looks like he was aware of the great exchange of getting Beauchemin off the ice as well : Kopecky viewed it as a good exchange, since Beauchemin is a top-four defenseman for an Anaheim team that already was missing its No. 5 defenseman, James Wisniewski, with an injury. The Ducks, who trailed 5-3 with 8:51 to play, could have used Beauchemin on the ice, but instead he was in the penalty box for five minutes. "He was cross-checking me in front of the net and then he asked me if I wanted to go. I didn't back off from the challenge,'' Kopecky said. "It was a good chance for me to take him (off), and that's what I did.''

Potential Disaster for the NHL in this Playoff Round?

Excellent post and great points. I guess all they can hope for if there is a Vancouver / Carolina finals is that it draws in some new fans and expands fan bases but it would definitely be a big blow.

Downey Elbows Opposing Goalie In AHL Playoffs

Yeah, except you're here posting in a Downey thread. That sig line is awesome it always cracks me up. Especially considering his career stats of 243 games and 18 points for a whopping .074 ppg average. I love how statistics can be used to show anything.

How silly you are, you don't give anyone on the Wings any credit for anything - all you do is bad mouth players and all you care about in hockey is fighting - there is more to the game. Oh yeah and as for Pronger being classy This just shows what you think is classy - even if he is seen as dirty by more players than anyone else in the league. Wrong again Micah.
