Don't put "Huh? " if you don't want someone to tell you what he meant. By your post you either: 1) Didn't understand what he meant by correlation=causation or 2) You were just being a jerk (acting as if what he said was unintelligible). You can disagree with his contention and argue that correlation does not equal causation (or why it doesn't apply in this situation) but by your response you acted as if you didn't understand accomplishing the goal of dodging his point (or at least not being able to argue it) and trying to be demeaning in the process. Then you are condescending again when someone takes you at face value (that you really didn't understand) and explains what he meant. Oh and the "" was a nice exclamation point on being a jerk.

It's a statistical phrase stating that just because there is a correlation between two things one is not necessarily caused by or the result of the other.

Bleeding vein likely to keep Lilja out for start of postseason
Frozen-Man replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Especially considering the topic of the thread. -
You can see it however you like but the team that was scrapping and clawing to hopefully get into the playoffs beat the team that is pretty much locked into second place. Like Babs said its hard to manufacture that type of intensity.

Bleeding vein likely to keep Lilja out for start of postseason

Did you read Micah's post that I was responding to? Here it is: My post was not about the score or if Downey would have changed the dynamic of the game or anything else - it was about Lils turtling until Downey came and saved him. Every single statement that I made as to why Downey would not have changed what happened are true but you don't even discuss them you just say if he had been in the game that it might have been different, well yeah, if they started the game 5 minutes later or had one more icing call earlier everything might have been different, but that is not relevant to Micah's post either. -

Are you serious? :caution: First off, Lilja would never have done that whether Downey was in the game or not, he's not that type of player and, contrary to your contention, he's not a "superstar" ($6-10M dollar or 60+ point player - I mean I really like the guy but he's a 3rd pairing D man not a superstar) where it might be deemed acceptable to not risk the loss. Second, had he turtled you, ESAD, and a few others would most likely have started a new thread and bashed him (and the Wings, and the coaches, and management) for being such a pansy. Third, your assuming that this would have happened to be part of the 5 minutes of ice time that Downey gets when he is in the line-up. Since he is actually on the ice so few minutes it is unlikely that Downey would have even been on the ice when the fight started. Also, since it was Z's line out there when the fight broke out is makes it almost unfathomable that Downey would have been on the ice. Fourth, had Downey (by coincidence) happened to be on the ice during the altercation, he would have gotten the additional penalty for jumping in as the third person in the fight and it would have been a crappy thing for Lilly and Downey to do as Lilja was the one that started the confrontation when he grabbed Weber under the chin and pulled him to the ground. Finally, you are always advocating for the TEAM to be tougher now you are advocating for one of the guys that will fight to just turtle? -
QFT. Downey does bring energy and physicality and the team desperately needs that. I think that they have several guys down in GR that will really help with that come playoff time (although the energy should be ramped up a fair bit on its own). Abdelkader, Helm, and Downey can all be that energy guy and all play pretty physical. The question will be what they want on the side - will it be the fighting/enforcer presence that Downey brings or the additional minutes and offense of the Abdelkader or Helm.

I agree, Lils and Weber got into it against the glass and Lils pulled him down with his hand around his neck. This was one of those actual spontaneous fights that occured because of the actions of the two players involved. Downey would not have even been in a position to keep anything from happening. He might have tried to fight Weber later for retribution but that wouldn't have changed anything about the initial exchange. -

Has somebody been staying up late to watch House on the USA Network? *Edit - (Just a joke, I know nothing about medical stuff but that is one of the diagnoses that they always say on House). -
I think he must just have that good of an attitude about the whole thing. The article said he has played 243 games over 9 seasons which averages out to just 27 games a season so I think he must have accepted it a long time ago. I also agree were it not for cap issues he would probably be up more this year (like last year) but he is the one guy on the team that can clear waivers so the other guys have to stay up and he can only be brought up as a luxury. If we had the space I think he would get his 50-60 games and 5 minutes a night but up against the cap it is just no feasible. Great read and he always seems like such great guy. I was however surprised that he only had 18 points in his career (I knew he wasn't an offensive monster but didn't realize it was that low) and that he only had 46 fights - roughly 1 every 5 1/4 games (for example Shanny has 97 - although he has played a lot more games for a lot more seasons).

I have finally got my wife to enjoy the game but the only time she gets screaming at the TV excited (unlike me who is that excited the whole game) is when there is a fight - she'll want to watch them on the DVR over and over. She's awesome. -
Good one - that would be hilarious.

I'll agree with that except I do love that games are in HD now kinda makes me spoiled for games that aren't. Oh yeah, and I agree about he organ and the older arenas with all the history. (Still I guess if you are going to pay guys $7-10M a year you better be bringing in the cash which sadly probably requires a lot of the fancy new suites). -

Congrats to Dats, and I think he will get to 100. Great class act by Z to point out that it was Pav's point. Great job by Mindfly for such a positive attitude. -
Petty funny I thought, and anything like that which helps promote good natured rivalries is great in my book, and it they did in a way pay homage to the Wings and acknowledge that the road goes through the champs.
-
Yeah I think without a doubt. From everything Babs and Kenny have said he would have been this year except lack of room. With the cap troubles we will be in next year the benefit we get from him with only a $900K cap hit will be huge, plus I'm pretty sure this is his last year of waiver exemption.
-
I dunno, I think I pick the Sharks - lets just sweep them, get them out of the way and then we can move on to the rest of the competition.
-
Oh don't be so negative. Although Kopecky did hurt his right shoulder "he doesn't believe it's serious, though, and said he might skate on Saturday." Don't worry it sounds like he will be fine come playoffs.

EXCELLENT POST!

That is preposterous, there has been plenty to suggest that women could not compete in the NHL. You spout off whatever "evidence" you want about changing rooms, women being kept down, whatever and act as if because you think a certain way about them that provides some type of "evidence." It is all conjecture as to whether women could compete in the NHL even if all of the grievances you listed were remedied, thus all your musings are are just that and are in no way "evidence." People have just as much a right to cite "evidence" such as throughout the entire life of the NHL and throughout all of the many countries of the world (I guess every country has conspired to keep women from excelling in hockey) not one single case has arisen of a woman who can or has played NHL caliber hockey - and in fact the only woman who ever even played in an NHL exhibition game was only played (sadly and despicably in my opinion) as a publicity stunt. If you want to believe that there will somehow believe that there will be some monumental paradigm shift - fine - but just because many people disagree doesn't mean that you have somehow offered proof and that there is zero evidence to support the contrary point of view.

I found it and posted a few pages back average NHL height is 6'1" and 204 lbs.
