On your post about the "Denver Columnist bashes Detroit" post you stated that "Because of people like him, I hate people from Denver," I guess according to you that would make you a racist? Since you stated that "To me making statements against a particular nationality is not any more tolerant than making statements against someone's race. It can be a form of disguised racism." Does it have to be against another nation or is it enough to be against people from a different city?
-
I actually meant it from a different slant, more from the standpoint that I hate when it seems like it is a job for an athlete. That was what I percieved the problem to be from Lang he went out there and did his "job" for the Wings but never played like someone playing a game that they love. However, as important as the love for the game that they play is it is sad to me when you see a player who has let that become his love above his family.
-
Great move by the Wings. Very classy to let him be there. I love when players chose what is really important in life. As much as we all love this game it is nice when a guy keeps his priorities right realizing that ultimately it is a game and his responsibilities as a husband and a father are unfathomably more important. Take care of your wife, take care of that precious new baby, and then come back and help the Wings take care of the Avs.

NFM - Thanks again for all the work so we can all play the game. DET/COL: 4-2 SJ/DAL: 4-3 MON/PHI: 4-1 PIT/NYR: 4-2

New Jersey's Martin Brodeur, San Jose's Evgeni Nabokov and New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist were named finalists for the NHL's Vezina Trophy on Monday. Not a big suprise but just thought you might like to know. http://sports.espn.go.com/nhl/news/story?id=3356972

That is incorrect as far as the FCC is concerned they have explicitly stated that regarding such speech they "intend to avoid extending the bounds of profanity to reach such language [that is not profanity] given constitutional considerations.”
-
WOW, your comparison of someone thinking that one player is more valuable than another to someone calling another person (without a shread of proof) a wife beater (both a crime and morally repugnant) is unbelieveable. Those comments are in no way "on par" with one another. Thats why your statement comes close to slander and his is nothing because it is opinion while you attempted to state a fact that (as far as you know) is a lie.

I never (and neither did the other posters) ever say it was more tolerant. What I said is it is not CALLED racism when it is against nationality it is called xenophobia. Furthermore, I still have yet to see one instance where he has said anything AGAINST another nationality, all that has been discussed in this thread is that he favors his. Don't get me wrong, I'm not really trying to defend Cherry, I'm not a big fan, in fact I find the way that he yells annoying and disagree with a lot of his analysis but I still have yet to see any of his statements where he attacks or disparages another RACE and if he has not then by the definition of the word he has not made a racist statement.
-
That is a pretty bold claim anything, anything whatsoever to back that up?
-
I am from America and didn't defend or condone what Cherry said all I said is that it is inaccurate to call him a racist based upon the statement from this thread. If you can show me where he has said anything about not liking players because of their race then I will agree but the statement from THIS thread has nothing to do with race. In general, a great portion of Canada's population is of European descent which makes them the same race. Cherry (again at least as far as I know) has never disparaged any player or team because of their race but because of nationality. If you want to claim that Cherry is bigoted because he only likes Canadian players or the North American style of play that is fine but that doesn't necessarily make him a racist and to claim that somehow the definition of racist includes this behavior is just plain wrong. Xenophobia deals with nationality not race and that is what you are ultimately claiming. It is not a question of "growing up" or "defending this idiot" it is merely that the term racist does not include bais because of nationality. I am pretty sure that Cherry and Lidstrom are of the same race and that Cherry has no problem with Lidstroms race. He may not like that he is a from Sweeden or that Lidstrom does not play a physical Canadian style of hockey lilke Phaneuf but rather a European style of puck possession but that has NOTHING to do with race whatsoever which as the word implies is a requirement of racist. Your term is wrong and just because it is unappealing to you doesn't change the definition of what the word means. Finally, if you will remember Don Imus' statements were about the members of the basketball teams race not the fact that they were American thus they were race related comments not nationality related comments.
-
Actually its xenophobia as opposed to racism. Cherry doesn't seem to care what race the Canadian is as long as they are Canadian. His bias is against foreigners regardless of their race (at least as far as I know).

I agree I think that the PIM is a big difference. Dion had 182 this season and Lids only had 40. Fighting does inflate those which in my opinion is a positive and a negative. Great that they have him to be able to do that and stand up for and excite his team but sometimes that puts his team in a hard spot to be without their best D man for 5 minutes. I mean 182 minutes equals 3 full games worth of minutes that they were without their best and one of the best D men in the game. Lids very rarely puts his team down a man or in a situation where they have to play extended times without him.

I think Chells has a shot because of his age, the number of games he has played, and that he has played more playoff games than anyone. I think that shows great dedication to hockey and he has a good shot at being rewarded for it.

Babs said that Dats is sick not injured so maybe if they are telling the truth it won't be too bad and Dats will be well and ready to go for game 1. "Pavel Datsyuk is sick, according to coach Mike Babcock. Brad Stuart went home to be with his wife for the birth of their second child. Neither player was on the ice for practice today. Stuart's reason sounds like he'll be back and ready for Game 1, which will likely be on Thursday. Datsyuk's is more worrisome. He's a good bet to not miss any game action, but he's probably feeling the effects of being banged up. 'He's not one bit hurt,' said Babcock of Datsyuk. 'He came in today and Piet said, 'Go home.' ... He'll be ready to go.'"

Exactly - to me there is no contest. Most points, best plus/minus, and on the team that gave up the least goals.
-
I'm afraid that you may have to glue them onto your wrist to make sure that we don't lose any more games.
-
GREAT POST - I love stats and that is a top rate job of backing up your asertions with the reality of what happened.

HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa Thats what I was thinking! Ozzy was incredible this series.
-
Hudler deserves an A- (B+ at the very least), he tied Dats and Kronvall as team leader in points with 5 (2 goals/3 assists) and they both got A or A- grades. I thought Zets was good as well A-, 4 points (2 goals/2 assists) and team leader in plus/minus at +4 Drapes was a monster on the faceoff winning 63.3% which is huge but the team worst plus/minus of -3 brought him to a B. I thought Ozzy was great coming in as he did and allowing just 1 goal in 8 periods and 54 total shots for a save percentage of 98.8% and goals against average of 0.38 (I know he just played 2 1/2 games but he shut out one and closed out the series for us) and that deserves an A+ to me. Lids was who he always is and gets his regular A+ (ho hum just another day at the office). I thought Drake was great with his intensity and hitting and overall game and deserved a solid B/ Franzen was great and was clutch when it really mattered (although I still wish he would use his size a little more) A-. I thought McCarty was great and according to Babs after the Preds tied game 5 when he came into the dressing room between periods and asked if they had it under control McCarty told him they had already taken care of it and were ready to go. Great leadership and excitement to be back in the game. B+ Chels just for playing the most playoff games ever gets an A from me.

That would be awesome. I would love to see that outdoor game!

What day does Rd. 2 start for the Wings?
Frozen-Man replied to Canadian_Yzerman_Fan's topic in General
Yeah it is Thursday or Saturday of this week. The Wings aren't getting an 11 or 13 day break. -
I was thrilled when we picked him up in the off season. He knows how to play and he know when it really matter for a guy like him to lay it on the line. Great move by Kenny and great play by Drake. I think he has shown some of our younger guys how to play with passion.

Whatever his faults not shooting the puck is not one of them. He shot the puck 249 times in 73 games. That is behind only Zetterberg (358 shots in 75 games) and Datsyuk (264 shots in 82 games) both of whom have much more time on the ice per game. The man does shoot the puck.
