I agree I think we are often expect too much of some of our lower end players. I think that Lilja is a good 5/6 d man. No, he is not anywhere near Nick, Raf, Stuart, or even Kronner but his is a lower salary d man who plays that roll well. I think that you have to know and expect that your 5/6 d men are not going to be as good and are going to make some mistakes. Granted the one at the end of game 5 last year ended up being horrible but we had many other defensive and offensive players that made just as bad of mistakes, its just that the result was so bad this time.

I know Sid may not be everyones favorite but he has greatly increased the exposure that hockey is getting. He is very talented and plays hard I don't think it is his fault that he has become the poster boy and like I said I think that it has been good for the NHL as a whole.

I never thought at the start of the year that Franzen would have a 20 (probably plus) goal scoring season this year. I have been really impressed with the way that he has been coming on lately. It seems to me that there may be some good effects of all the February injuries as several of our guys have finally contributing.

Great point. His arguement is that the "old" stats don't matter even though they show our scoring and yet they show that they are inconsistent. Also, great point about Forsburg. He has really been tearing up the scoring sheet lately I think he has 0 goals!!!!!

Yeah none of it matters???? Maybe we should cut the season down to 15 games since the rest of the season don't matter. Furthermore, those are not old stats tons of Franzen's goals and several of Flip's are recent. Forsberg has been hurt again and who knows if he will even play. Selanne has done well and has 8 goals but he was someone that they had last year so it doesn't really change their scenario. Richard's is one of the three 20 goal guys that I listed in my stats so your argument that they have added him doesn't mean squat without him they had two 20 goal scorers now they have 3 (furthermore, and there has been talk that he probably won't score as much in Dallas as he did in Tampa Bay). Plus, none of the guys that you listed (except maybe Forsburg now) are secondary scorers they we brought in (or brought back) to be one of their primary scorers. Quit screaming about the sky falling - we have a good team - almost everyone agrees that we have one of the best and as was the point of my previous posts (the subtlety might have eluded you) whining that we don't have enough secondary scoring is ludicrous because we now have 5 guys with at least 20 goals and another with 19. How many other clubs have that many? WE HAVE MORE SECONDARY SCORING THAN ALMOST ANYONE. There are few (if any - I didn't check them all) that will end up with at least 6 20 goal scorers.

What makes them so much better? We have 11 more goals than the Stars, 28 more goals than the Avs, and 42 more goals than the Ducks. Also our defense hasn't been too bad either. We have allowed 20 less goals than the Stars, allowed 27 less goals than the Avs, and allowed 11 less goals than the Ducks. That creates a differential of 31 goals compared to the Stars, a whopping 55 goals compared to the Avs, and 53 goals compared to the Ducks. Finally, the Wings have 1 guy with more than 30 goals and 5 with 20 or more. The Stars have none with 30 and 4 with 20, the Avs have none with 30 and 3 with 20, and the Ducks have none with 30 and 3 with 20.

I know they don't have him locked up yet but I assume Chelios will be around next year as well (I sure hope so). I still agree with your overall premise that Lilja in the 5-6 role is still a good fit. He does some things (block shots especially) well.

I'm from New Mexico and have never gotten to go to the Joe yet but I hope to this November after that they can get a new arena (I feel inclined to state that I am only kidding about getting a new arena before November as some moron will probably put up a post stating that it would take longer than Novmeber to get a new arena).

Too bad you'll probably never hear this over on ESPN. It seems like maybe they would want a bigger piece of the action but I guess they would rather show poker.

I guess based upon your size logic Tie Domi (5'10" 207 lbs) would lose in a fight to Bertuzzi (6'3" 245 lbs). I'm not saying that Drake is anywhere near as good of a fighter as Domi was but merely refuting your logic that Bertuzzi would win the fight becuase he is bigger. Perhaps it matters much more that Drake has been fighting a long time, much more often, and against better fighters. But yeah he's not as tall and doesn't weigh as much.

Mac is not being brought in to be a high production scorer. That isn't and has never really been his role. We are still tied for the most goals for even with all of our injuries and I have little doubt that if and when our guys heal up and get back to playing that problem will solve itself.

Very true. I think he was a good pick up and I definately think his mean streak will help. He has had some monster hits which is something that this team needs. For example:

I'm not saying that we shouldn't have spent the money, what I am saying is that does not mean that we should have grossly overpaid for Markov. It is a bad precedent to set. Spend all the money I don't care but don't pay a $2.5-$3M player $4-4.5M because now everybody's price tag goes up. Guys like Lidstrom, Dats, and (hopefully) Zets (along with many other players) all agree to take pay cuts to play here and you use that money to go out and overpay a D man a sum that no team in the league is willing to pay AND for multiple years thus hurting us for years to come on the cap end. It was a great move to not overpay Markov for all these reasons, now saying that Holland should have used to cash to pay someone what they were worth would be fine with me but not overpaying for someone of Markov's talent.
