You have to consider the precedent that it would have set giving Markov the amount of money that he was asking though. That is a really important point. Other players now and in the future would use his ridiculously high salary in their negotiations and that would have been bad for the Wings overall for a long time.

Seriously? An Av's team that has 28 fewer goals than us and given up 33 more? A team that has lost 11 more times than us? A team that is two spots out of even making the playoffs and we shut out 4-0 even with almost half our team out? Oh yeah and swept in the season series? Lets not over react. Of course we can compete with them as well as any other team in the league. We didn't bulk up the way many of us had hoped but we still have one of the best teams in the league and unlike many other teams because we didn't mortgage our future will have a future. This is not the greatest trade in the history of the NHL but it is a solid trade that cost us very little.

I guess you have some secret information and think that you understand the game, the team, and what was ACTUALLY avalible to the Wings (and at what price) than Holland does.

We NEVER could have gotten all three of these and would have had to give up way to much even if we only got Hossa. Look at what Pitt gave up to him. Furthermore, Foote had a NTC and didn't want to come to DET and the Blue Jackets might not have wanted to deal to a division team. But whatever, just go ahead and rant anyway.

It seems like holland made a good "plan" to make sure there was enough cap space that he COULD make a trade. However, just because we have the cap space does not mean that there is any deal out there that makes sense for this team. It would be a really bad idea for a GM to say well we have cap space lets fill it up no matter what. It is unlikely that we have what is necessary to pull of a major trade because we are unwilling to give up our future. It is never a good idea to spend it just because you've got it.

Seriously, the Vancouver game? Where we were without the vast majority of our defense? How about the enitre rest of the season before we got so many injuries that we hardly have a team in Grand Rapids anymore. I'm not saying that the recent slump should not be a concern but lets have some perspective. The team that played Vancouver does not resemble what our will probably look like come playoffs.
