1 to 1 - Michigan looking sloppy at the start of the second.... Game

Why did they waive off that goal earlier? I was on the phone and it looked like a good goal.

They really didn't pay that much to get him either - I've never even heard of Tim Kennedy. -
Straight out of the Pittsburgh Penguins playbook...

I wouldn't wait too long to buy tickets. While I doubt if the game would be a sellout you might miss out on good seats due to the heavy influx of Michigan refugees living in the area. I went to the entire Tigers vs. Rays series in/near Tampa last year and the stadium had just as many Tigers fans in attendance as there were Rays fans. We had a great time in the parking lot before each game. Just thought I should add that February is prime snowbird season as well - cities like Sarasota and St. Petes are filled with people from Michigan at that time of year.

What doesn't make sense to me is why Boston claimed him off the wire. He is having an awful August and they are 5.5 back in the wild card chase. As to why the Tigers waived him; he likes it in Detroit and knows the team isn't going to the playoffs. He has also said he wants to come back next season even if he is traded. So why not let the Tigers waive and trade him to a contender for the last 30+ games so the team can get a pick out of it. I'm sure this was all discussed before hand but no one expected the Red Sox to claim him. Tampa, the Yanks and the Reds all made more sense as probable destinations.

I'm also interested in hearing if the league is going to fine the Devils...

Yeah - Coke and Perry both looked out of sync. Gotta hand it to the Red Sox though; they don't give up.

DD is a double edged sword. He can make brilliant moves like getting Cabrera and Jackson and than he makes bad moves like the Jurrjens/Renteria deal or the overpriced extensions that never pan out. One thing is certain - the farm system is not in as good of shape as we were led to believe and the lack of talented position players who can actually hit the ball is a bit depressing. Watching how well Tampa Bay plays with such a low payroll stung almost as much as the sweep itself. You have to think Ilitch is aware of these issues but at his age does he really want to start over again? I think this summer is the last chance for DD. He has 70M or so to work with and if his moves fail to produce a consistent product on the field I'm guessing both he and Leyland will be shipped out. Oops - I repeated half of what GoWings1905 said. That's what I get for opening the response window and than going to have breakfast before typing. Oh well great minds think alike I guess...

Yeah that was sad - Garza's ERA was close to 5 sigh.... May not be the last time with this lineup.

Janka is a bit more to my liking but she is too skinny in that one pic - looks like she's added a few #'s since than though.

It still turns my stomach thinking about this crap but it could be worse I guess. -

I just read that article a little while ago. I caught the entire Tigers/Rays series down in Tampa last year and the first thing the guy sitting next to me at the first game said was "don't buy any food from the vendors" and this article confirmed his warning. We never eat anything inside sporting venues because of the ridiculous prices. So not only do you pay $10 for a 6 inch dry pizza but you get chemicals or food poisoning with it - so pathetic. Pack a lunch or eat at a reputable restaurant.... -
I think it's a mistake for them to be buyers even at only 2 games behind. Given the brutal schedule over the next 4 weeks and the fact that they needed a hitter before Maggs went down; now they'd need 2 batters and would have to overpay big time. Save the money and get some players during the off season.
-
I'm in the minority on MO. Not because I don't like him or think he is too old but because the Wings likely have some contracts coming off the books after this season and that 1 to 1.5M would go a long way towards bringing a player into the fold at the trade deadline in case of injury or if there is someone available they'd like long-term.
-
I don't know the specifics of all the long term deals that have been handed out in the past 5 years but the difference in comparison to Z's and Franzen's contracts is the front/middle loading of dollars in the Kovy contract instead of an average hit against the total in each year. Apparently that is what the league has an issue with and rightly so. Just to add a thought. Kovy would be stupid to agree to a contract at 6m a year for each of the 17 years because if he retires in 10 years he would have signed a 10 year 60 million dollar deal when it all shakes out - not going to happen.
-
Jersey can't afford much more of a cap hit - knock 3-5 years off that contract and the average hit will force them out of the running for Kovy. Their highest paid players have NTC and NMC's so shorter term deals are out of the question. They would have had a tough time just clearing the 1.5 to 2 million for him at the 5.8 million cap hit or whatever it was.
-
oops - doubled up....

I started collecting in the late 80's and continued until the mid 90's. I gave them all to my little cousin who is 17 years younger than me when he started playing pee wee hockey. I can remember page after page of Jagr, Forsberg, Lidstrom and Federov rookie cards. Not sure what has happened to them as he is stationed overseas now and I haven't seen him in 8-10 years but I hope he appreciates them.
-
Ya - should be interesting. Jersey only had about about 4.2M in cap space left...
