Here is an updated article on Rolston which says he is believed to be looking for 4-5 million annually and he indicates this will be his last contract. I don't see how the Wings can sign him to a 3-4 year deal for that amount. They have some cap space but Holland has already indicated a #4 defenseman will be his top priority whether it be Stuart or another UFA. That leaves 2.5 to 3 million tops for a forward in any long term deal with Z's and Franzen's deals expiring next year. Sundin for 1 year is the more likely deal here and Kenny may just sit pat on a forward until the trade deadline to see how things develop... 1. Gretzky's 92nd goal 2. 1997 Cup 3. Mike Milbury - shoe whooping a Ranger's fan in 79 after O'reilly charged the stands... 4. Orr takes flight 5. Wings vs. Avs Brawl

Anderson was due to get into the HOF - he was a clutch player that always seemed to score the big goals when they were needed the most. I think he has six cups though - one with the Rangers in 94...

I have to wonder if a lot of this hype regarding Malone and his potential salary is/isn't being fueled by his agent. Anything more than 3-3.25 million or so annually is a joke and even that seems high because he isn't going to have Crosby or Malkin feeding him.

4.5M to 5.5M for Ryan Malone - TSN is also reporting that the Wild and Canucks are also interested him...

Niedermayer signed his contract prior to turning 35 - I'm about 90% positive that the stipulation is based on the age at the time the contract is signed not the actual age of the retiree. His salary wouldn't count against the cap if he hangs them up. Ziggy Palffy retired when he was 33 and and the remainder of his 3 year deal was null and void.

This will probably be Anderson's year to get the nod....

I think that if Stuart fails to re-sign than Detroit is going to sign a free agent defenseman ASAP. Lilja, Lebda and Chelios are all good 3rd pairing defensemen and Ericsson may be ready for the nhl but not the second pairing. They can afford 3-4 million a year for a veteran defenseman but Darryl Sydor is an unlikely choice.

I posted this in one of the other numerous Penguin threads... During the playoffs the Penguins defense scored 28 points combined. Rafalski and Kronner had 29 points between the two of them and the Wings had 52 points combined - enough said!

Redden hasn't been the same player since he lost his mother to cancer 2 years ago - a change of scenery would probably do him some good.

Pittsburgh's defensemen scored a combined total of 28 points in the playoffs. Rafalski and Kronwall scored 29 points between the two of them and the entire D-squad had 52 points combined. If I'm a GM I start looking at some transitional d-men who can make a good outlet pass, stay calm on the point and chip in once in a while. Better defensemen will lead to even more production from those talented forwards. Sydor could be bought out, while I liked his physical play Orpik isn't a transitional defenseman and was -3 in the playoffs. Liles, Hainsey, Streit and Roszival would all be better offensive upgrades. Sign Hossa, add a depth forward, let Roberts and Laraque walk and hang on to Malkin through next season.

They will probably file the papers at midnight or tomorrow morning....

Any thoughts on who will be the next assistant coach?

Paranoia - Paranoia Crawford??? I was thinking of someone out of Canadian Juniors or an international coach. Two head coaches on one team leads to conflict and mixed signals. -

I understand sentimentality and respecting former and current players as being knowlegeable about the game but personally I'd prefer someone with no ties to the current players and preferably with 6-7 years behind the bench including some significant playoff success at whatever level they coached. -
Nashville has the chance to really reload this year... I'd try using the #15 and #40 picks to move back into the top 10 somehow.

:flush: Why, that is a direct insult to flushing utensils acros the country - please take it back....

San Jose should have the space for him - especially if Campbell tests the market.
-
I'd love to have Sundin but the Canadiens are also contenders and can afford to pay him 6.5m a year for 2 years - we can't.... http://www.nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?tea...amp;season=0708 Montreal is going to be busy this summer....

Barry is head coach and director of operations for St. Petersburg in the Russian elite league...
-
It all depends on Stuart - if he walks than Lilja may be offered a contract while the Wings shop for a #4 D-man and then try to assimilate him to their system. If Stuart signs I think Lilja is done.

Going on top and with a touch of class too - nice job Dom!!!

If the Penguins overhaul their defense by adding some guys that can move the puck up the ice they will continue to be a contender. Eaton is injured too much, Sydor is past his prime, Gill is not a transitional defenseman and neither is Orpik. If they had a couple of more defensemen capable of making a quick first pass than they would be deadly 5 on 5.

From a leadership standpoint - I like it... Looking at the available roster space - not so much...
