Yeah, and if the Leafs don't re-sign Sundin they and a couple of other teams will have plenty of cap space to make an offer or two...

I wouldn't put too much stock in Leino making the squad next year - I read an article a while back on RWC where his own coach from Finland questioned whether he had the speed or skating ability to make it in the nhl. It also sounded like he hangs on to puck too long against the boards although the coach credited his work ethic and determination. If you go to the Finland Forum on the HF boards there is a lot of doubt as to whether he would be able to make it in the nhl on any team let alone the Wings roster. Let's hope he can elevate his game and prove them wrong...

They can buy him out this summer - they have to pay him 2/3 of the salary and the cap hit is over a two year period. Sydor is scheduled to make 2.5 mil so his buyout value would be 1.67 million and the cap hit would be $833,333 each year for the next 2 years.

The Red Wings are going to have more flexibility salary wise than they've had in the past 4 years but after they sign the the RFA's and a few returning vets they are going to be restricted in their options. If they sign Stuart they aren't going to be able to afford more than 3-4 mill a year for a winger and they definitely aren't going to get locked in to a long term deal for any more than that with Franzen and Z needing to be re-signed. I think the possibility of Sundin signing in Detroit is pretty slim if he wants a big payday...

It looked like he was shaking = similar to parkinson's disease....

I don't understand your thought process... Franzen and Zetts are under contract for next season and all of the 07/08 bonus money is going to be applied against this year's cap. The salary cap is going to rise, Hasek is done (2m), Chelios is most likely done (.85m) - they can sign all of their RFA's, offer Stuart 3 million a year and still have 6-7 million sitting on the table - that money doesn't carry over to next year.... Why not sign a veteran forward to a heavily loaded front end 2 year deal???
-
I'm not very confident that they will re-sign Eaton - he has missed a lot of time with injuries the past two seasons...
-
They were 9 million under the cap this year and with the expected increase they should have the money available to get most of these guys resigned. We know Roberts is gone and I doubt if they resign Laraque so that frees up 3.8 million right there. If I were the GM I would be focusing on acquiring a couple of seasoned defensemen via free agency - Hossa is most likely a goner because they aren't going to be able to sign him to a long term deal with Syd's big contract and Malkin's impending one.... http://www.nhlnumbers.com/overview.php?team=PIT

I live in Sarasota and there are quite a few hockey fans around here - many of them are transplants from the north who have adopted the Lightning. We'll see how it holds up because the economy is starting a backslide down here...

If he played for 4 to 4.5 mil a year than yes - sign him. He made 5.5 million last year....
-
That pretty much sums it up - well said....
-
Yes bonuses can be applied against this years cap - the wings will have a clean slate next year....
-
The entire 4.3 million left over from this year's salary cap is not going to be wasted - in fact not spending the money was a brilliant move in hindsight because all of this years bonus money (Hasek, McCarty, Chelios, Etc..) can be applied against that extra cap space without having to carry any over towards next year. This means the Wings will have a clean slate and with the additional projected increase in next year's cap they will have more wiggle room than theyv'e had in the past 3-4 years. I didn't have time to read all 5 pages so I apologize if this has already been mentioned...

Rescheduled for 12:40....

He was a beast for Toronto in the 01-02 playoffs but that was the last time he really dominated any playoff games. He brings a lot more leadership to the table than Laraque thats for sure. A big check, tenacious puck pursuit, a well placed slash, or a timely goal - he's capable of all of them if healthy and determined...

Amen, a voice of reason. QFT and all that jazz....

He should really take tomorrow night off - :violin:

There are two sets of referees for the series but I'm not sure if they alternate by game or by location...

Babcock is the greatest...

Yes - what Homer did is done throughout everygame in the nhl - he was putting his stick down on the ice - outside of the crease in order to set up a deflection - his stick did not interfere with Fleury's ability to make the save.
-
I can recall seeing hundreds of goals where players score after jabbing their sticks into a goalies pads - if we are assuming that Fleury didn't know when the puck was coming than can't we assume the same for homer? I have watched it over and over and I still feel it should have been a goal.
