July 31st is the hearing date...

The story about his dad contacting Barry Smith in the KHL to inquire if they had any interest in in J.J. didn't help him much from a positional/contract standpoint either. There were a lot of rumors that L.A. was trying to move him before/during the draft and those KHL rumors probably scared a lot of teams off who might have paid him more. http://tsn.ca/columnists/darren_dreger/?id=279172

You need to add that to your signature...

Who is going to give up assets for him on a one or two year deal knowing he wants to go the KHL - that is the better question. It would probably have to be a team in the east with cap room and a shot at winning the cup in the next 1-2 years.

Khan posted an update to his earlier story saying the Wings can trade him after arbitration. Khan

I think that one year no trade stipulation is only for offer sheets when a team matches the contract offer - not arbitration... Here is the link explaining what may have caused the confusion. Offer Sheets Sorry Peleshob - I missed your post...

In the game I saw he didn't have much of a choice - Glumak sort of jumped him after J.A. boarded one of his teammates and he got ejected for it. I haven't seen him in action enough to put him in a category. There are a couple of videos of him fighting online - one of them was against Doug Janik and he looked like he was just hanging on for the ride in that one.
-
He handles himself OK - I wouldn't call him a fighter by any means. I flew home for bow season last year and caught the Griffins home opener in G.R. while I was there; he put a licking on some dude named Glumak (sp) in that game.
-
That was a brutal forearm - he could have killed him...

If at the end of the arbitration process the Red Wings weren't happy with the Arbitrators decision they have the option of not entering into the contract and allowing him to be a U.F.A. Would that fact not nullify their argument as the arbitration process itself does not guarantee that a contract will be the end result? I'm not a lawyer but if I'm whoever will be arguing Hudler's case for him that is one talking point I try to focus on.

If he is making 10M guaranteed over 2 years that means he is getting paid $89,285 for every game he plays during their 56 game season. That is on par with some of MLB's highest paid players and better than most when you calculate their net salaries.

More ice time, closer to home, more money, 30% fewer regular season games etc...
-
I'll up the ante and wager two months of suspension time that they keep at least 2 of the 3 big RFA's even if the salary caps drops 5-6M. They will trade guys like Versteeg, Byg-F-in ugly guy, Bolland, etc before they lose Keith and Toews. Kane makes the most sense to trade to me - they can cut salary and reload the farm system in one move. The fans won't like it but if trading Kane gets them an elite future goalie or D-man they'll get over it. A lot of teams are envious of Chicago's problems...

Not until you have been here for at least a year - after that the old school regulars lighten up a bit...

Reports have said that the Wings would have gotten compensation if he signed with L.A. - you don't deal the negotiation rights for someone like Hossa to your division rival. I said it a few pages back and I'll say it again. If Hudler does go to Russia this was a bit of payback for his limited ice time over the past two seasons. He's full of s*** when he says he didn't want to be traded and only found out about Russia a few days ago. He now has the Wings in a position where they can't sign and trade him and one in which they get nothing back in return for his value as an asset. I've been questioning some of Holland's moves the past 3-4 years - especially the no trade clauses and Flip's contract at the time but this is not a red mark on him as a G.M. more of a stain on Hudler's rep....
-
Yeah - that is the worst part of it. He is worth a late first rounder or early second round pick easy... You have to wonder if part of this is payback for the limited role he got on the ice the last few years. If he wanted out of Detroit he could have just quietly asked for a trade before the draft. They could have gotten something for him.

Edited for.... Multiple posts with same info!

Could this be more for leverage against a sign and trade scenario if the Wings decided to move him to a crappy team? How many teams are going to be willing to work out a deal for Hudler knowing he has a contract in Russia that he has to opt out of...
-
The Wings actually had the money to make Flip a good offer though. There is a lot more uncertainty over Hudler's filing...
-
I agree - Columbus is still 9.5M under the cap. If Mason continues to play the way he did and they can add a few more key players they will be in good shape.
-
I did a similar thing with with my Netflix account - I ordered some movies late Thursday night to watch tomorrow and Sunday and forgot all about the postal Holiday; now they won't arrive til Monday. Life's a *****!

That contract will buy him a ton of Skyline Chili....

If they pay Hudler any more than 2.5 Million than their options really decrease. At 2.5M they can pay Leino 1M and still afford a league minimum winger if the traded Lebda. If his salary jumps to 3M than Lilja is the only D-man that can be moved to accommodate a minimum salary player. What 20 goal/50 point man is left to sign here for 2.5M?
