After watching the awards show, the misspelled jersey was stupid of course. The NHL goofed, but it's not that big a deal. I'm more concerned with how the whole award show looked like an after school special. This needs to be done in a place where more stars show up: Hollywood and sports stars. This is one event that could be entertaining to watch for non-hockey fans. I dunno, I kept thinking MacLean was about to break into a ragtime dance to get the audience to laugh. I wasn't overly impressed with the Awards show; the jersey was just another thing on the list to me.

haha, I wonder why he wasn't asked to be on the committee

2008 NHL Awards Ceremony Thread (GDT)

Yeah, I was at Game 5 and after Rafalski scored, it was the loudest I've ever heard any arena. My brother was sitting right next to me and I had to yell into his ear for him to hear me. Even though they lost the game, I'm proud to say I went: Longest Stanley Cup for Wings in history and 5th longest Stanley Cup game. Nothing bad about those stats

there they are standing in a row...

Nashville is further west than Detroit and is actually in the central time zone; doesn't make much sense to move them to the eastern conference. Columbus is almost directly south of Detroit.

Actually, the metro Edmonton area has just over 1,000,000 people. The metro Grand Rapids area has over 1,300,000 people, so it's not that out of the question. And I mean pro as in MLB, NBA, NHL, etc. Not minor league level.

It will be interesting to see how Kopecky does after the rehab. Not everyone comes back from knee surgery the same way; hopefully he steps it up and improves his play. We'll have to wait and see.

I think if any NHL team is added to Michigan, it would be in the Grand Rapids area. I'd love to have a pro sports team in West Michigan. I love my Wings, but I can't afford to drive across the state for more than 1 or 2 games a year. I dunno, I doubt this will happen in the next 5 years, but it would be cool to see it happen eventually.

I hope the Celtics crush the Lakers tonight

Higher All Time Ranking: Yzerman or Lidstrom?
McCartyFanForLife replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
Yzerman played through so many more injuries than Lidstrom has. Yzerman still sits on the top of my list. Now, Lidstrom hasn't had the chance to demonstrate that because he hasn't needed to play injured in the playoffs. Can't compare the two in my mind because Yzerman was a forward and Lidstrom is a defenseman; they play 2 different ways. -
Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?
McCartyFanForLife replied to SFwingsfan's topic in General
Lids - No doubt; his jersey is going up Ozzie - He needs 1 more significant accomplishment in my mind to get up there. Those could be: Vezina Trophy, another Stanley Cup, or 500 wins -
I'm pretty sure the person that invented AC needs to win the Nobel Prize (if he hasn't already).

From all the things I've read, it looks like Chelios is staying http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...031/1048/sports

This past Thursday (6/5), my friend and his wife went to dinner at the Kirby Grill in Grand Haven, MI (West of Grand Rapids). They finished dinner and as they were walking out, he saw someone at the bar he recognized. It was Chris Chelios. My friend went up to him and congratulated him on a great season and another Cup. He said thanks and my friend asked him to sign a napkin (LOL) cause it's all he had with him. My friend doesn't collect memorabilia, so he asked Chris to sign it to me so the napkin reads: "To Blake, Best Wishes, Chris Chelios 24" It's such a cool story, I had to share!

Darren McCarty signing at Fan Zone in Westland Mall
McCartyFanForLife replied to Kronwall55's topic in General
It's all good; no one had listed the price yet so hats off for finding that out. Most people will make their decision to go or not go on the $30 price tag. Personally, I'd check Ebay; you can get a couple DMac autographs for under $30 -
I agree, at least the monologues aren't funny. I find some of the bits they do hilarious. Letterman's Top 10 and Leno's Jay Walking are very amusing

I'm pretty sure nobody has ever lost a series due to officiating. Sometimes the calls go your way, sometimes they don't. In a 7 game series, the better team always prevails. Sure I though the officiating was questionable, but their human beings just like the players. We don't have a committee of referees that review each penalty call to determine if the call was correct or not. The ref makes a split second decision based on his point of view. Of course replay shows what the correct call may or may not have been, but it won't show the refs point of view or what he was looking at. "We lost because of bad calls" = "We are too proud to admit that we got beat by a better team and we need to practice harder"
