yeah, he is a dork...but he is ours

I like Larry Murphy for the same reasons that non-hockey fans might hate him: he is goofy looking, is not really telegenic in the least, is verbally fluid as a stuttering typewriter, and is not glossy at all. The opposite of sensationalist. But...he has seen more hockey than the state of Texas, knows everyone in the business, and is respected everywhere. He is also an objective commentator. The other big sports would never have a Larry Murphy. Another quirk of hockey. He is unique.

I was not expecting a hat trick, but he is expected to skate at an NHL level. He might be able to pick it up, but right now he is sub-standard. sorry. I do hold out some hope, however. Yes, he was integral to the cup winning teams of 6 years ago. But this is the NHL. Just mere games before the Playoffs, not December. Bad skaters are a liability. The road to the cup does not go through memory lane.

he looked Larry Murphy slow. While I believe that he is capable of picking up the pace, at this point, he is a liablity. The rest is up to mac himself...

What I learned from the game tonight: 1. Hudler should take a nice vacation starting April 10th. Replace him in the playoffs with Meech or Hartigan, at least they can bang and are defensively responsible. Get a job as an Ewok for the next star wars. hell, I don't care. 2. Mac is not ready yet. Downey is a (sigh) better skater at this point. 3. Ozzie, please stop those bong hits at least an hour before the game. Seriously, find your groove. 4. Half of this board is man-crushin' on Franzen.

worst shift of hudler's career. no playoff time for you, lil' fella.

yeah, it is hard to keep a good mule down!

double s***.

I don't think that Mac will be able to refrain from getting into a scrap-he needs one to get his groove back. For better or for worse, that is just who he is. Smart money says mac vs. mayers, round 90. How many Left-handed enforcers are left in the league? I am stoked as a kid on christmas! Mac is the soul of Detroit personified. Down but not out, tough as nails, battle scars for days.

Chris Pronger as Princess Leia......bitchy, whiny, prone to huge temper tantrums, has a sense of entitlement.... I thought that Huddles doubled as an Ewok

3/27 Update: Samuelsson has groin issue, Filppula ready
zombiewing replied to 40#1Fan's topic in General
yeah, and I saw the title for this thread, "Samuelsson has groin issue", and I am thinking, yeah, Samantha does not have a groin... -
I want to blend Pavel Datsyuk and Joey Kocur, but Bettman won't let me.
-
the perfect player with the worst knees in the history of hominids. but yeah, that would be a beast
-
the flowing locks of mike ricci the speed of larry murphy the bulldog tenacity of alexi yashin the professionalism of dale hunter the slap shot of samuelson the groin of brent gilchrist the fighting ability of paul kariya oh yeah baby, my ultimate player rocks!

yeah, I am predicting that Friday's Sharks-Ducks game will be a cheapshot-a-thon.

thanks, i was about to say something about this blasphemy myself

true but i think that the 4th line will see less time than in prior playoffs. wear the other team down, then spring huddles on them....gggrrrrrrrr
-
just a hunch...i think that babcock will not roll the 4 lines like we have in the past. we are post cba. we can roll 3 potent lines plus a very limited 4th line. I have mixed emotions about this-we would wear down easier, but we would not have such a drop off in talent. yes, I remember fondly the days of having Larionov and Luc on the 4th line. for what it is worth, everyone else is having the same debacle. And with the competition so close, even having mediocrity on the ice for a few minutes can be deadly. The idea of having The Shrimp on the ice in a game 7 scares the tar outta me. I take comfort in having the best top 4 d this side of the cba.

Deadmarsh was not the same fighter after this scrap-he came back after this fight, in which he sustained a concussion, but he seemed a little punchy. He ran a few Detroit goalies, so i was not too sympathetic Eddiejo vs Deadmarsh http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_fXZoNbEhE&NR=1

In the spirit of the season, I present one of McCarty's fights as a wing. He went against everybody's favorite can of tomato sauce, one Matthew Barnaby. btw, I remember reading that Barnaby's wife was watching this game in horror as it happened. over-rated tough guy. All mouth, no bite. reminds you of a few cats, no? anyhoo, Dmac vs 'tomato sauce' barnaby http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adjeV2Ksdos

domi had 2 main things going for him: 1- balance...he had a technique mastered where he would drag and lower his center of gravity so low that the bigger guy's reach was ineffective. 2-the guy was ambidextrous-could bang with left and right hands. okay 3...he had the world's biggest head-thing was a frickin melon yeah, top ten guy for me too. he did not always win, but he never got completely mauled (I mean turtle-esque mauled) either.

good list. joey juneau-quick rise, quicker fall. slick passer when on, but just 'was not there'.
-
Yeah, a few people thought that Murphy would be a Wendel Clark kind of player-soft hands, hard fists. He just seemed disinterested, as alot of hyped players are. I do remember him going crazy a few times, like jumping over the boards to maul somebody. I think that he had a few run ins with the law.
