Matt Cooke offered in-person hearing for knee hit
Hack & Whack Rule! replied to frankgrimes's topic in General
My guess is ten games because of the 783 incidents prior to this one. Carry over into the new season, of course. But, yeah, what a tool bag! -
Gordie Howe to release autobiography ‘Mr. Hockey’ in October.
Hack & Whack Rule! replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
I'm looking forward to it. I already have his book called "Hockey...Here's Howe!", from 1963. -
To be fair, this thread was started in February...of 2013. That's over a year ago. It's a thread that is basically calling Howard an average goalie, with no skills that make him exceptional. There was another thread that was praising Howard, and it started fairly recently, but it was locked because it was going to turn into a "Bash Howard" thread. I agree that nobody has blamed Howard for yesterday's loss, but he is getting called out for his completely stupid play that lead to Boston's first goal. I fully believe that Jimmy is to blame for that one, 100%. If I were a high school football coach, I'd say 115%. Let's be realistic guys...a goal like that can change a game on such a high level. It's one that Booins should not have had. Of course, if Glendenning is our only goal scorer, there's no way to win, so it's on everybody.

Essentially, I don't like seeing people pat themselves on the back. I don't like people getting patted on the back by everyone else. Celebrate a goal with your teammates that are on the ice, and move on. There have been a few that had their own goal celebrations before going to their linemates, but I haven't seen anyone shooting their hockey stick like a shotgun, or anything like that, for a while, and I'm glad. Who would put up with a hockey player doing a little dance after he scores, a la the NFL? I despise touchdown dances. Excessive celebrating, even if it isn't right in somebody's face, is disrespectful.
-
I think excessive celebrations are douchey. I don't when this deal, for scoring goals, started about touching the gloves of the entire team as you skate by the bench, but I don't even like that.
-
No, he hasn't been very good at handling the puck. But that play was very surprising. He should know that he's no that fantastic, and should have picked a better spot to put it. Hell, he could have pushed it into the corner for the d-man to pick up. You're right, though, I'll likely get over it. I think it was a turning point. A play like that can bring down the spirits of the entire team. It was after that, the second goal I believe, where he looked like he was shaken and was too far out from the net, Bruins loser got behind him, and scored. Mostly, I've liked him. Despite his sketchiness and lack of puck handling abilities, I've thought he was good. In the playoffs, though, I get dickheaded about performances. I just think it's a ridiculous time to bring anything other than your A+ game.

Absolutely...it was meant as a mix of sarcasm and frustration.

I've liked Howard...in the past...before today's game...where he assisted on Boston's goal. What a dumbass move that was! It's like he went into complete panic mode. He could have pushed that puck up centre ice, slightly to his left, and he would have been fine. Time to retire, Jimmy.

gdt ECQF Game 2 GDT : Red Wings 1 at Bruins 4 - Series tied 1-1
Hack & Whack Rule! replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
After that first period, I now hate Boston as much as I hate Pittsburgh. I wouldn't even care if some Wings decided to take some two handed swings with their sticks. -
I really miss all those open ice hits by Konstantinov. Burr was a monster, but I can't figure out how those guys survived all those hits by Vlad. It's kind of sad to see how many of those hits were possible because guys had their heads down, probably admiring their stick work.

Holy s***...it's 23 minutes and 23 seconds!
-
Agreed
-
I first read that as "worse than his mom".
-
It looks like Cleary got number 11 back tonight, because that sure as hell doesn't look like Alfredsson.
-
I'm watching the game on Centre Ice. It's bad enough that the Wings are getting schooled, but these announcers...they're the Carolina guys and they just sound like a couple of nerds! I don't even know who they are.

Nyquist since Datsyuk's Return & Unnatural NHL Development
Hack & Whack Rule! replied to gcom007's topic in General
I haven't read all of the replies, so I may be hitting some points that were already made. Datsyuk coming back has, once again, changed the on ice dynamic. It happens when someone leaves and when someone comes back. Nyquist was on a hot streak...it happens. Teams have really closed up on him. They've seen his skills, and have put in their sights. Any combination of these and other reasons are why we are seeing a change. -
This went from a legit thread to a non-legit thread by talking about a non-legit thread... I love irony!
-
It would be interesting to see him in Toronto or Edmonton. I think those are the teams that need to look at Trotz. It's rough to see this guy lose his job...I like him, but I can barely tolerate the Sexual Predators. Hope he lands on his feet.
-
I might have a bit of a man crush on him. It could be the beard, though.
-
Other players do it, but not with that kind of frequency. Compare the skills, the rate at which his crap happens, and the C that's on his jersey, to the others.

That was a good video. I've seen most of those clips before, but all of them together made me weep for the future of hockey. It's too bad, because the dude has got some wicked skills...I won't deny that. I always remind people of when he was in the QMJHL. He was about to enter the NHL, and his team was up 5 or 6 to 1, with a few minutes left. He came around from behind the net and flipped the puck onto his stick and tucked it into the net when the goalie went low. Don Cherry said it was a hot dog move. All of Nova Scotia was up in arms defending Squidney. I was living in Halifax at the time, so I had to listen to it for a couple of days. Cherry was right...it was a hot dog move. He didn't say Crysby was a hot dog, just that it was a hot dog move in the dieing minutes of a game with a guaranteed win. He has no morality with his on ice behaviour. I can't believe that none of his team mates haven't tried to talk to him about it, so he has to be ignoring all of the mentorship from the veterans. If Detroit, somehow, made a deal and picked him up, I would stop being a Red Wings fan. That's how much I despise this weasel.

I really miss that kind of hockey. Kind of weird that it was at a charity game, though.

Flyers' Rinaldo to have hearing for hit on Ruhwedel.
Hack & Whack Rule! replied to cusimano_brothers's topic in General
Oddly enough, it almost looks to me like he tucked in his arm and tried to avoid hitting him. It looks like he noticed Ruhwedel's head was down at the last second, pulled in his arm and tried to hop out of the way. Being Rinaldo, I know that's hard to believe. Maybe it's just me... -
Whichever team is playing Pittsburgh.

gdt 4/4 GDT - Sabres 2 at Red Wings 3
Hack & Whack Rule! replied to MabusIncarnate's topic in General
Wings will win, 9-1. Nyquist will score 8, Datsyuk gets 1. The Buffalo goal will come from some guy who never scored an NHL goal before.
