I don't like the thought of a shortened season, cuz I already don't get enough. Get rid of half of the preseason, keep the regular season the way it is, shorten the playoffs. For the playoffs, I would suggest cutting by half the number of teams that now make it in, or shortening series to best of 5. I don't think shortening the season is going to go very far because of the payday issues.

I agree. A 9 goal game is just a fluke, and makes the numbers wonky at best. Just like at the beginning of the season where people were panicking because we were 1 win, 2 losses. It didn't mean we were going to lose 55 games this year. Or being 0 and 2 didn't mean we were going to lose 82. Sure it's nice that the 9 goals brought us up, but we can't expect that every game, so it has to be thrown out over the long term. It is nice to see some players stepping up and making a difference.

But it's actions like these that get all the attention. How many times have you seen someone do something stupid (trip, high stick) and then go apologize to the other player? How many times have you seen that on highlight reels or a thread started about it? Granted, you don't see that a whole lot, but I have seen it. These s***ty hits are not the norm, just more fascinating for the viewers.

It would be a great idea to get rid of the trapezoid. Unfortunately, nobody's going to listen to this little giblet of common sense. That would mean they would have to admit it was a bad idea.

I gotta tell ya, it doesn't look like a head shot to me. Maybe I can't see it real well, but it looks shoulder to shoulder to me. I will agree that it was dirty because it was about a mile and a half behind the play, so, penalty, for sure. A suspension is a bit of a bulls*** call. And to whoever keeps going along with the respect thing with all these hits: you don't really know what you are saying. The players out there respect each other. They are pushing limits, for sure, but trying to get a rise out of them is all they are doing. I'm not trying to start a flame war here, but you can't say what is going through the players minds. I realize I did just that, but it's done with a little common sense. All these players are in the same league, doing the same job. Maybe Glencross doesn't like Drury, and went too far. Who knows... As for making an example of players, as someone suggests: that's just the world's worst idea. Enforce rules or don't enforce rules. No two hits are exactly the same, so how do you make an example out of one person? You'd be making an example out of everybody. You can make the argument that "a head shot is a head shot", but what about unintentional as opposed to intentional, or someone turning their back at the last second, or someone trying to duck a hit? Too many variables.

Can we get, say, a Defensive Coach, maybe, to go on LTIR? That might be asking too much.

What a stupid column to actually be printed and posted anywhere. While I'm sure there are parents that would make some of those comments to their kids, he has wrapped up the whole "s***ty hockey parent" thing into a composite person. One kid doing everything in that article won't last long. Spread those items around a league and it's called life and choice. Just because people play with the traits pointed out in the article, does not mean they are forced to play that way, by a parent or anyone else. The writer's sarcastic abilities notwithstanding, this is the most retarded article I've read in some time. This was a clean hit, plain and simple. Everything else is smoke and mirrors. Debate all you want about the kid turning his back, the injury, the sizes of the two people involved, but the hit was clean. The fact that there was an unfortunate ending to the hit is the only reason it's getting attention. If that kid would have gotten up, it would be a highlight reel hit.

Is this supposed to make it alright that they hosed the community? Or are you saying they probably didn't hose the community on purpose? Either way, the result is the same.
