Really. I was hoping for 40. I think the fact that the linesman wasn't injures is a miracle of so sort. Players get get from less than that hit. That red had no expectation of being hit like that. I was hoping for 40 but would not have complained had he been kicked out of the league.

If he was really concussed, he should have gone through the concussion protocol. Either he is liable for assault on an on ice official, or his organization is liable for endangering his health and well being. The league being what it is today, I don't think there was any indication of concussion symptoms or even the need to follow through with the protocol. That leaves Wideman blowing in the wind. I think you can get 20 games for spitting on a ref (I could be wrong), so I was hoping for 40.

It looks like he he got hit pretty hard...nobody disputes that. I think he was pissed because he thought it was a bad hit and should have been called. It seems to me that he skated right towards the linesman and hit him intentionally. He then, easily, avoids the player with the puck. Screw Wideman...that linesman doesn't expect to be hit from behind, or to be even bumped that far away from the play. It wouldn't upset me in the least bit if they called it assault and kicked him out of the league. I'm sure that won't happen, but I'd be okay if it did. He could have seriously injured an on ice official.

Picture it...two teams floating defensive lines that accentuate their defensive abilities while defending against a defensive opponent. Why push for the point and risk losing and getting nothing, when they can sit back and try to guarantee the loser point for a tie. I don't like the loser point for OT, but ties are just as bad.

I think a lot of people don't realize how different the game is. I really miss the way hockey was played back then. As for the ratings, I'm pretty sure you've touched on a large part of it. It wouldn't surprise me to see that future SC finals will be played in predetermined arenas, a la the NFL. Everything seems to be geared toward ratings and growing the fan base. But since this is a thread about Phaneuf...he sucks.

I doubt this is going any further, this thing with Phluffy. Think about the extreme cost of supplying the entire Red Wings organization, and it's complete fan base, with anti-rejection medication.
