Downey was on fox sports last night, I just watched it again. The key information I got from him is that he is that he is planning to be back in Detroit this year, and while he is in Grand Rapids he is enjoying encouraging the young kids. It was a short interview, but here is what I took as the key quote from him "I see myself actually playing this year in Detroit, hoisting another Stanley Cup, and see myself doing it again next year too in a Detroit Red Wings uniform. I don't see myself any other way. You are what you think about." I like his optimism, and I feel like right now he is a better fighter than McCarty, if it is coming down to one or the other playing 3 minutes a night I would rather have Downey right now.

I was sitting right by the penalty box last night and I was very tempted to lean over to it and tell him that we wanted to see a goal from him last night. At one point some people in another section had a Downey chant going on. In the games I have been to Downey and Landon Wilson are the two players that I have noticed to be the most vocal. But Downey is much more so than Wilson. He is consistently encouraging everyone, and talking to everyone including the coach- who appears to listen to always listen to what he has to say, unlike a few games agowhen I watched Ericsson try and talk to the coach he was ignored

I always look at jerseys when I am there but they never have had Kronwall which is who I planned on getting so I really haven't paid a lot of attention to them. I think they were $150, but maybe $130. Sorry, I do know they did not have as many players to choose from as I thought they would. But because it's the start of the season rather than the end maybe they will have more to choose from.

I went to the Griffins home opener and another game. During the opener this guy kept coming over and yapping at Downey while he was on the bench but as soon as Downey got on the ice he stayed clear of him or headed right to the bench. I love both McCarty and Downey but I feel like Downey would be the better person to have sitting in the press box waiting for the more physical games. I expect McCarty to get another game or two and at that point if he's not doing better they will flip flop him and Downey until Franzen comes back.

Sounds good to me I am really rooting for him to get a goal, or at least an assist.

If we keep playing the way we have been I would like to see the team send McCarty down and bring Downey up. We have Meech in Detroit we should give him a chance in the place of somone else. It would be great if we sat someone for a few games and found a way to bring up someone else from Grand Rapids in addition to sending McCarty down. I don't want to see the team trade anyone but these guys really need a wake up call.We need to shake things up somehow, these guys have to realize that there are players in Grand Rapids that have been working their tails off and are ready to come in and steal spots if these guys can't get their acts together. Lenio has 9 points in 6 games, Abdelkader has 8 points in 6 games, and Helm has 4 points in 4 games.

Hockeytown Authentics in Troy sells signed pucks, and I believe that I have seen Yzerman pucks there. They are a lot more expensive than many of the other players. If you call them I think you can order one and have it sent to you. I am fairly certain that the store is owned by the Ilitch's who own the Red Wings so I am pretty sure that what you get is authentic. Well after the game Abdelkader said that he hadn't been in fight since juniors because they are not allowed to fight in college. He played two games for Detroit last season, and now has played 5 games for Grand Rapids so that's not very many games to have had a chance to fight. But he certainly isn't afraid to play a physical game out there. It wouldn't suprise me if he works on his fighting a bit with Downey like Quincey did over the summer.

I always follow the stats sheet when I am watching the Red Wings game and follow the shots on goal, and time on ice, the blocked shots etc. I have not been able to find this information for the Griffins games. When I listened to the game tonight I heard his name quite a lot. We were trying to take pictures last night of the players when they came off the ice, because we were right behind the bench and it seemed like a good opportunity. We had a really hard time getting any of Ericsson, and I do recall thinking wow he's been on the ice for a long time at least once last night. Maybe he is playing to much. But the only player I really noticed much on the bench was Downey, for the most part he sat directly in front of me probably ten feet away from me, and since he and Abdelkader are my favorites I took more notice of the two of them.

I wanted to go again tonight but couldn't find anyone to go with me at the last minute. I noticed that too about the defensemen last night, once I think it was right in front of the goal. Thanks for the info about the game!

I looked it up he has 5 goals in 5 games, he missed 2/3rds of the game last Sunday though.

No reason to feel stupid , I would have had no idea, except Grand Rapids is closer to me than Detroit is, and I can get tickets two rows behind the bench for $25, so I take advatage of it when I can, and Downey is one of my favorite players and I really like Abdelkader even though I have only watched him play a few times so I have been looking forward to the season and following them closely as well as the Red Wings. If I didn't live so close I probably wouldn't follow them at all.

The players did meet at the Joe at some point around the parade for final pictures with the trophies, I thought I read that they took a team picture, but maybe I am incorrect. Last night was the home opener the Griffins have played three games on the road previously. I am pretty sure they did not play in any pre season games because to many players were going to be with Detroit during training camp. So far I have only found a way to watch the games when we played against the Lake Erie Monsters because FSN Ohio was broadcasting it. I agree completly with everything Coyotee has to say. I took a few relucant people to the game they are looking forward to going again. We enjoyed seeing Glumac being yelled at and would have enjoyed hearing what was being said, we sat across the ice a few rows behind the Griffins bench. The team had a very solid first period, but did not do as great in the others. I expected good things from Leino and Helm and they both impressed, I also liked Ritola, Abdelkader, and Emmerton last night. I must say that I was not real impressed with the Crosby commercial they showed on the screen. I would have been much happier to see one of our guys up there or nothing at all. Overall the team played great in the first period and decent in the second and third in my opinion. It was a very fun game to attend and I will definitely being going to a lot more this year.

Have you found a way to watch or listen to it online? I have watched them on my television the last two times from FSN Ohio.
