Another huge save by Howard. BRUNNER! A huge stop at one end, and a goal at the other. That gives me flashbacks of what used to happen TO the Wings, not FOR the Wings.

I was not a big fan of Howard. I really didn't like how he was called up seemingly because he was out of option years. I didn't think he was ready, and thought didn't belong in the organization. I felt his rebound control was a huge issue and that his angles needed a lot of work. I've come around on most of these lines of thinking, as he is solid now but I still don't feel he is elite. I doubt I ever will. More like, above average.

Homer was the container for the no goal disease. Now that he as retired the plague has infected the entire league.

Hmm. A dilemma for me, then. I work for a cable company, so I get Center Ice for $31 this year, vs $50 for Gamecenter. The only thing that REALLY sucks is Las Vegas, where I live that has 0 NHL teams, is somehow the home market for the Kings, and Ducks, and I believe the Sharks and Coyotes are mixed in there somehow too.

Breaking out the signed McCarty jersey for this one. The Wings definitely need some McCarty-like effort for the rest of this series.

The '08, '09, and '10 Cup champs are all down 3-1 in their series, as well as the '11 Game 7 losing Cup finalist. In the east, every series is split at 2 except for the goal-fest that is the Pens and Flyers and thats a 4 vs a 5. I can't help but think to get ahead now the GM has to get lucky and have someone out-perform their contract as well as have your stars perform to get any traction on the league. Significant injuries and players who don't perform are just tremendous weights to bear now. This isn't a specific commentary on the Wings, more of an observation on the league currently.

Yeah, I've been around a long time. Since this forums remake in 2001ish I want to say. I lost my account info and lurked for a while before I just made this account. I've seen some of the lowest lows.. (95 finals anyone?) which only make the highs sweeter. There truly hasn't been a better team in professional sports in the last 15-20 years than the Red Wings. (IMO of course)

I had the same reaction. Shanny said in the explanation video that they were willing to forgive the hit on Coutourier as "jumping to brace himself from an unexpected collision while changing from defense to offense." To quote myself after hearing that - "Are you friggin' kidding me?!" The Penguins have the same stupid bulls*** script in the playoffs. In the 3rd period of losing playoff games, they hack, wack, instigate and dirty hit and sometimes even attempt to injure the opposing team. They think that its "sending a message" to the opposing team. They're wrong.

I'm sure someone will do it sooner or later. Also, the blame lays at the refs feet for this game. Neal should have been giving 5 minutes and a match after the hit on Courtourier. Instead, he stays out there and almost decapitates Giroux on the next shift. Absolutely disgusting show by the officials. The league should be ashamed.
