I thought about that too - but wanted access to all other games too on off-nights. I think that's what they were banking on when they set up the pricing scheme... that people might want year-long access to get all the playoffs as well as the World Cup coverage and awards/draft coverage if they don't get versus. As far as sharing a subscription on the site - I know I'm all about saving money but I think they do IP logging to make sure you can't just all share one subscription. When you log in it tells you your IP address - so I assume that's what they're doing.

I heard they offered discounts if you jumped in halfway... but It's still over a hundred bucks I'm pretty sure. It's a gamble... I may end up regretting it, but for me its worth the risk! You can do a monthly subscription too or 6 months I think... that way you aren't putting in a $50 commitment. I really like how responsive their main web guy is too - he was in all the chat rooms helping people with streaming problems (usually those with Macs) and seemed very friendly when I was asking about the classic games on NHL Network. He said they might do a 24/7 feed of the classic games, which I would totally be up for.

Yep - work like a charm. The archive was the only thing I could check out at first since I subscribed before the start of the pre-season. Got all the playoff games and a few before. Watching the Canadian broadcast version of game 6 was pretty interesting ... got to see some different camera angles than the NBC broadcast.

    Wings RBK Jersey from China

Not that it's proof positive of anything, but I was curious on the way each of the jerseys were posted differently on the website so I asked "peter" online about it. Here's the conversation... my favorite part is when he says "dont worry" he does claim that they are just like OEM... Peter: Hello, welcome to Lightinthebox, how may I help you? Torless: regarding the NHL jerseys available - can you answer if the ones listed as Premier jerseys have stitched or screen printed emblems? Peter: stitched on Peter: sewn on Peter: thx Torless: is that for all of the NHL jerseys or just some? Peter: for all Peter: dont worry Torless: Alright - thank you very much Peter: just same as the OEM factory Torless: great - have a nice day

    Wings RBK Jersey from China

I'm totally going for one too - but I've got a sneaking suspicion that it isn't quite as nice as the Z jersey. If you notice the postings, the Z jersey is the only one listed as an EDGE jersey... which is the "most authentic" of the RBK line. The differences being stitching, fabric weight and quality, etc... The AO jersey is listed as being a Premier - which is still a good quality jersey that goes for $150-$200. Usually they have a mixture of applique, screen printing and embroidery on the crests and lettering... whereas the EDGE jerseys are all stitched. The Premier jerseys also have a Reebok symbol on the sleeve and a jock tag on the bottom-front of the jersey. I'm still stoked - I'm hoping to pick up an AO jersey, a Thornton and Kane jersey as well for that price. I'm just not expecting the super-high quality found in the Z jerseys... there will be some stiffness in the crests and lettering is my guess. Does anyone have a "Premier" line jersey to compare to the EDGE ones?

    FSN-Detroit

Does anyone know if it's possible to get FSN-D - specifically the Red Wings games out of market? I live on the west coast and see that it's a possibility with Dish Network to add the RSN package to current channel lineup... but are all the pro sports blacked out? Is there any way around this, and if so - how are you doing it? If not - does this mean Center Ice is my only option?

    Hockey News Top 50

If you're comparing the two goaltenders to see who performed better during the playoffs, you can't really compare them other than the times when their teams played each other. Osgood clearly won this battle... and he wasn't the one to put in the cup winning goal with his ass, btw. Ozzie sv% vs. PIT: .9295 Fleury sv% vs. DET: .9234 And Ozzie beat him in sv% despite the fact that it's arguably more difficult the less action you see per game... two shutouts on the East's top offensive team? Point blank saves on just about all of their top guns? When is mental toughness going to be a stat, btw - how many goalies can bounce back like Osgood did from a loss at home to perform to their best? Did anyone check out Ozzie's road stats for the 2007 season? His away save percentage was above .930 - higher than all the other top league goaltenders. Not getting his dues is the name of the game for Ozzie now... and will be as long as he has the top team in front of him.

    Kenny says no

You know - my gut tells me that the reason Sundin is waiting so long to decide is that he wanted to go Detroit but didn't act soon enough. Supposedly he also wanted a cup-contending team, Detroit is close to Toronto, a lot of Swedish teammates... Everything about Sundin going to Detroit made sense, so that's why people thought Detroit could be the dark horse even after the 'nucks offered 10mil. Too bad, so sad Sundin - if you would have jumped on for cheap at the start you could be raising the cup next summer. Now the best you can hope for is a fat paycheck... meanwhile Hossa has put his money where his mouth is - and frankly we're better off this way.

    FSN-Detroit

Just heard about another streaming option instead of Center Ice online - Hockeystreams.com will set you back just $50 for the entire year and they aren't nearly as many blackouts from what I hear since they're in Canada. Supposedly the quality is better than Center Ice online and I'm thinking I'm just going to have to try it out

    FSN-Detroit

Oof - it's not easy being a west coast Wings fan, I'll tell you that. Thanks for the info though - I'll have to figure something out to keep up with the games. Maybe Center Ice online *grumble*

    FSN-Detroit

So from Virginia you get FSN-Detroit with that Regional Sports Network package then? No troubles with Red Wings broadcasts?

    Chelios, Downey, McCarty, and Quincey

My bad - anybody have a highlight reel of Lilja we can send to the other GMs? Anyone? He comes with a free Stanley Cup Ring so you can see what one looks like...

Only 2mil of Flip's contract is hitting the cap this year... is everyone factoring that in? Holland made sure to leave room for the remaining unsigned. No worries!

What are you looking forward to...

Although a stretch maybe - he is in the top 15 in wins all time (and climbing) - he has the highest win percentage of the top 20 goaltenders (regular season) @ approx 63% - won the cup 2 times as a starter (so far)... and took the Blues and Islanders to the playoffs - he even broke a bunch of franchise goaltending records the first year he was with the Isles. Who knows - if he continues to play the way he has been at this age - I think he could go down as one of the all time greats... depending on the next few years for sure.

Homer uses the Stanley Cup in a family Baptism

Which is the sweeter claim to fame - being baptized in the cup or being able to call Holmstrom "unkie Homer"?

    Third Jersey Releases for 2009

I think the NHL should welcome the artistic insight of this brilliant designer's concepts: http://www.legendsfootprints.com/ .... sorry, just had to. actually didn't he design the Stars' third jersey?

More proof ESPN doesn't even watch hockey

I was impressed by Crosby - seemed like a great player and leader for the last couple seasons... earlier in the year I would say he really didn't deserve some of the abuse heaped on him. "He's a crybaby", "He's Bettman's blah, blah, blah"... I mean it's not like he asked to be the poster boy. Watching him in the SCFs however, he just seemed dispicable as a captain... he was a trash-talker, a whiner and a bad sport. Even Turco seemed a lot more friendly in the handshake line at the end of the Wings/Stars series. Does he have to be a good sport? Nah... but it sure helps if you're putting a 'C' on your sweater. Pleh - even if Datsyuk got an ESPY it would be meaningless... just stating what we already know. We got the cup and Crosby got a cup o' disapointment. Where's your wingman now?

    Draper's daughter & the Cup

My favorite part of the posting was this quote, actually - which was during the cup's visit to a Children's Hospital in Toronto. "We got to touch the Cup before Mats Sundin," onlooker Gunan Seevaratnam joked. That must be funny in Toronto. That's gotta sting!

    Waivers!?

Howard's got a 2-way contract. Which means Detroit can call him up and send him back whenever they want - as long as they have room on the team. Conklin has a one-way contract which means if they sent him to the minors he has to pass through waivers... which means any team can grab him during a that waiver period. 2-way contracts are standard for rookies - not usually for veterans.

    Hossa officially #81

Not that we didn't all suspect this was happening... Who all's getting a jersey / customizing a jersey right now?
  21. Torless

    Hossa officially #81

Very true - I find myself hunting down anything hockey news related in the middle of the day and usually am disappointed. At least they made this official - just makes it all the more real. I won't be wearing Hossa's name on my back this year either - though if someone offered one, I certainly wouldn't turn it down - "rental" or not

    Marian Hossa a Red Wing, 1yr, $7.45m

Now that he's officially a Wing, I say he needs an appropriate Wing nickname ala Chuck Norris or Mini-Me. Being that his name is Marian, my vote is for "The Duke" - given that the late John Wayne's real name was Marion Morrison. I'm just sayin...
  23. Torless

    Hossa prefers Detroit?

Right on - we all have the hindsight to praise Holland for his decisions in the past and I believe we have reason to trust in his insight again even if we end up netting Bertuzzi over our favorite picks. Flip was clutch in game 6 - Huds did a great job throughout the playoffs and both are still developing players... It appears that, based on this article we may be out of the running for Sundin, Rolston and Hossa anyway... if it is accurate analysis. Unless Hossa wants to work for peanuts... I'm afraid that dream is over. You always need those clutch players on the team to grind out the wins.

    Red Wings to carry enforcer.

Don't disagree there re: old PP lines - but if we're talking numbers McCarty was +3 in 20 games.
