Ok - so replying to this post is probably uneccessary...it seems to speak for itself. But this little gem from the Edmonton game warrants another glance (watch the whole thing). Guess what? Howard lets in some softies too. And does anyone else remember how great Raycroft was his first season? I'm not saying Howard is the new Raycroft - I really like Howard and think he has a great future in Detroit - but seriously? This lovefest for Howard has to be toned down just a little bit... let's give him time to grow, and let off the veterans like Osgood who, you know, have won cups and played some phenomenal games throughout their careers. 12/3/09 vs. Oilers

Milestone Watch - Chris Osgood Approaching 400 Career Wins
Torless replied to gcom007's topic in General
Ozzie doesn't seem to care as much about topping Sawchuk's career wins, mostly his Red Wing wins... I think someone else posted it (352?). If he gets a streak going this year and starts early next year he should be able to hit this mark... right around 40 wins. I think the Wings will retire his # when the day comes... seems like a no-brainer if he tops Sawchuk's Red Wing record. And I agree with the Tampa Bay assessment, Babcock seems to go for history when making the goalie call. I think he wants Ozzie to get in stride too, especially if they are looking to ride him through the playoffs. *knock on wood* -
Even better - Nabokov is Detroit's best friend... 7-15-1, 3.68GAA and .881 sv % - by far his worst stats. Ozzie is 16-9-0, 2.74GAA and .895% - not the best on his end, but an edge is an edge! 3-2 Wings!

Why hasn't anybody in the media mentioned that this win puts Osgood past Hasek for sole-posession of 10th place all-time wins? Isn't that news worthy?
-
You guys are so off-base... TSN's prediction model involves an intricate simulation of 3 independant EA NHL10 seasons across 3 platforms, with AI coaching enabled. How can they possibly be more accurate than that?
-
I'm hoping that Babcock tries out Bert on the 3rd line with Williams on 2nd... We've already got Mule and Clears in top two and would be great to have that big net presence on the 3rd line. Add Homer to the 4th line and we've got a guy on all 4 lines that can screen and chip in shots. Not only that - it would be great to have a hulk like Bert to balance out the swift, lighter weight Helm and Leino.
-
I hear that Bert and Ozzie are pretty good buds (somehow)... I like this move to light that extra spark under Ozzie this season. It doesn't seem like Ozzie really cares about winning the cup for himself nearly as much as winning it for another veteran... just sayin...

See, I'm thinking the more literal: "I just locked up Jason Williams... in the basement of the JLA".

If Malhotra had any interest in Detroit as this suggests, we still have a good chance of landing him. Holland has been fairly relaxed in his approach to signing UFAs because of the Hudler deal. To know that Malhotra has interest may take away some of the pressure to send out offers, etc... the longer he has to wait, the lower his price will go as we get closer to the preseason. There are several solid options out there aside from Williams...

Fixed it for you. I figured nobody would intentionally type it that way. 2007–08 Philadelphia Flyers NHL 17 9 8 1048 52 1 2.97 .904 2008–09 Philadelphia Flyers NHL 6 2 4 375 16 1 2.56 .919 2007–08 Detroit Red Wings NHL 19 14 4 1,159 30 3 1.55 .930 2008–09 Detroit Red Wings NHL 23 15 8 1406 47 2 2.01 .926

Well according to Mlive.com - we get to see the preseason version of the matchup in Detroit Sept 16th

Oh good - does this mean you're leaving the forum forever? I hear the Blackhawks are ready for the final group of bandwagoners to jump on... Nothing?

McFarlane did an Islanders Ozzie years ago... course a Wings Ozzie is better, and good news that his hard work is garnering some respect...
-
So Holland says "he'd be taking a lot less money to stay in the NHL" and TSN reports the deal as 2mil. If all is true, I'd say that Kenny has other plans if he isn't even offering Huds 2mil. Gonna be interesting...

It's mostly about motivation... that's what Drake was and what someone coming into the team might provide for the 82+16 grind.
-
how about Brendan Morrison? Veteran player... traded away from New Jersey right before they won the cup... he can score... getting older, but he might be the Drake of the year.
-
Good move for Minnesota... I'm just glad we won't see Koivu and Selanne together as some were predicting.
-
Good move IMO... Roloson's still got life in him and I've always had a soft spot for the Island. How funny would it be to see the Pittsburgh "dynasty" get ousted first round by Roloson and Tavares?
-
LOL - Dave Tallon is officially the worst GM in the NHL today. Who's the biggest name in the free market??? Get him! 1 bajillion dollars! This is not going to end well for them Good luck Hoss - I don't know what about the WCFs told you that the Blackhawks were the team to go to.
-
It's a good idea - at least it should assist in the decision. Though with Game 6 in Pittsburgh you see the problem when Fleury is #1 and Osgood's nowhere on the board. Give me a freakin' break. Scuderi should take 1st star over what muffins Fleury knocked away... Cleary's breakaway was pretty good, but still. No respect on enemy turf. Oh... I see - you weren't talking about star selections... Still... that pissed me off

again - IF all goes well, it should be Ozzie last year Detroit gives up 23.6 shots a game. So far they've given up 28.8 shots a game - more than PIT and CHI! Last year's PK was over 85% - this year they're struggling to get the puck out of their zone with 71.7% Somehow Ozzie has maintained his stellar playoff performance from '08 and I wouldn't be surprised if by the end his save pct rivals his .930 from last year. Everybody seemed to believe Hank won last year because of the amazing 5 on 3 kill, and for Osgood it could be the Wiz robbery, or a number of other clutch saves. Time will tell - let's get the next 6 first

Being on the west coast I find it incredibly expensive to get all my Wings action on the tube, and frankly - Center Ice online is way too expensive. I dove head-first into Hockeystreams.com, signing up for a year subscription... and so far I can say without hesitation that it's worth the money. Basically it's $49.99 for a full year (not season), and they cover pretty much all that is broadcast with no blackout issues. Naturally the official season has not started yet, but they've been up for over a year I guess and they're improving things all the time. For instance - they have a neat chat feature so you can connect with other Wings fans during the game and badmouth the refs when they call Homer for interference. I've watched several live streams, and the quality is excellent... they stream in 548kbps and I have successfully hooked my laptop up to my HDTV - the quality isn't high definition of course, but it is surprisingly good through s-video or composite. The webmaster has suggested that they may offer higher bitrates to those who can handle it - so the quality will be even better in the near future. I got word from the main webmaster "billy" that they might start streaming all the classic games as well... and if you want to go back to a specific game in the season they already have a good archive system going. Check it out for yourselves - you can sign up for just a day if you want to check out the streams. They get all the Canadian channels as well as NHL Network, Center Ice, etc... so that's how they avoid some untimely blackout issues. It's a lot better presentation than SOPcast - but you should test it out first. If you decide to go for any sort of subscription - apparently they have a referral program, and I wouldn't argue against you clicking on this link: Hockeystreams.com. Seriously I don't work for the site, just a huge fan of what they've put together and wanted to pass the word on.

Osgood is 3rd (or something) in assists among active goaltenders... I think he does just fine... and he set up several breakaway opportunities in the playoffs already. Including the playoffs - Ozzie has more career points than Aaron Downey The reason he doesn't shoot the puck down the ice every power play is that he'd be turning it over 50% of the time.
