Give the guy a break, he is the only link between glorious Soviet hockey past and present Russian aspirations. The only thing missing in Fedorov's trophy cabinet is the Olympic Gold medal, and judging by his play last night, he has come to get it.

Very debatable claim. The Russian RHL seems to draw better players and more money. Anyways the Czechs are always very dangerous players. Hope our guys can cancel this new threat out.

He is certainly european. His last name is Ukrainian, just like Hordichuk or Kovalchuk. Most of the settlers in the vast lands of Urals and Siberia were Ukrainians - sent there either by Katherine II or Joseph Stalin. There is no doubt that his predecessors moved to Urals from somewhere in Ukraine and settled in Yekatrinburg. Lots of people did, therefore you see lots of ukrainian last names both in Siberia and even Kazakhstan these days.
