WCQF GAME 4 GDT: Red Wings 6 at Blue Jackets 5
Stevie4Pres replied to Hockeytown0001's topic in General
CBJ announcers and fans (making an assumption based on the bottles thrown on the ice) say that the two many men was a BS call? 1. It's a simple addition problem. If you can't count to a number greater than 5 then go back to your trailer, boil up some mac and cheese and crack open a busch light. 2. If the refs don't call it then it screws the wings over. We now know the outcome after making the call (the correct call) but if they don't make it and Columbus wins the game then the refs just handed a playoff game to a team by not making the call. Point is... the players and coach are responsible for keeping track of these things. All the ref has to do is simple math and call a penalty when the number of men on the ice exceeds five. -
Maybe I have a mis-conception of what a "hometown discount" is but I thought a hometown discount referred to a player taking less money to play for the team that he grew up close to (geographically). For instance, Rafalski taking a discount because he grew up in Dearborn. Why does Pittsburgh refer to every signing as a hometown discount. Every article I've read insinuates that each player should sign for less money in order to get the "Pittsburgh Hometown Discount" whether they are from Minnesota or Russia. This just doesn't make sense to me. Can anyone explain?

How can a city be upset about losing a rental? They gave up the players that they did knowing full well that Hossa was not a long term player. We're signing Hossa as a rental so there are obviously no long term expectations. The article sounds me to more like "sour grapes" than any sort of rational thought.

I totally agree with everything that's been said. But I don't think it's exactly a bad deal from a salary standpoint for Hossa. Hypothetically, if the Wings win the cup next year then Hossa will hit the free agent market as a player with experience in two Stanley Cup finals and a Championship. Thereby enabling himself for possibly a bigger contract than the ones offered this year. It's not that I disagree with anyone here it's just that I don't look at like it as such a raw deal for Hossa. 7.45 million is a lot of money!! In any case, it's a great move by Detroit and kudos to Hossa for taking a little less now for the best chance at a cup.

Also, if another scout is saying that his job is just "dumb luck" then he should probably be fired tomorrow. I know my boss wouldn't appreciate it if I walked into his office and said "Hey, Thanks for the nice paycheck but you could really just roll some dice and do just as good of a job"

Exactly the thought that came to my mind.

Absolutely agreed. Although Oz will be our #1 next year, it is an excellent chance to get Howard experience. There is also the opportunity to give Larsson a game or two depending on how he does. It's a perfect time to test our young talent so there is no reason to give Ozzie close to 70 games.
-
I totally agree. Shows his character though... It's got to be difficult keeping a distance from the cup.
-
I love how Ozzie pointed out that Detroit takes s*** for not selling out every game but he knows that just because the game isn't sold out that fans are still getting together in bars, throwing parties and watching at home. Doesn't doubt Red Wings fans in the least bit. Ozzie is awesome!!!
-
I heard that and couldn't help but lol. That was great!!!!
-
Sorry if this has already been answered but I'm coming in late... Lousy work!!!! Anyway, do they plan on addressing the crowd at the end of the parade, if so when is that scheduled?? Man I wish I was there!!!
-
I like to look on the bright side of things. If you win on the road you get to see the pain and disappointment in the opposing fan's faces as they watch your team celebrate. Seriously though, I expect great things next game. It doesn't matter where the cup is won, it's still coming back home to Detroit!!!!

A major problem I have with this article is phrases like "kept his stick from moving" and "knicked his blocker". Since when did these words even creep into the vocabulary of the hockey world. If players can't get "knicked" and are "kept from moving their stick" then what the hell is the point of wearing pads. One of the weakest calls I've ever seen. Move on and destroy the Stars in game 5. Holmer lights the lamp 10 times, 8 are called back and we win 2-0!!!

I'll be in Grand Rapids, MI and won't be able to watch the game on tv. Does any one know which radio station, if any, will be broadcasting the wings game in that area? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks...
-
I couldn't find anything on the internet that said for sure that the Wings game was going to be broadcast so I'll just have to check the stations suggested and cross my fingers. Thanks for all the help. Go Wings!!!!
-
Thanks... I'll try 590. The only access I may have is from my car so the internet and television is out.

Jenison/hudsonville area

After tripping flip while skating backwards and sucker punching holmstrom in the back of the head he has no room to talk about integrity. I don't know if he's just trying to get under the Wings skin or if he really is that hypocritical.
-
I agree he's a D-bag but I just wanted to clarify that he said "non=traditional" not "traditional"
-
Totally agreed Aussie... You take pity on the opponent in a third grade girls soccer game, not in an NHL playoff game. Never let up.... Don't develop any bad habits. I understand switching to a more defensive posture but don't let up.
-
Perfect example is when a slapshot hits you in the foot. It hurts like a ***** and you can barely skate on it for about 3 seconds but it gets better quickly and by about 1 minute later it's like nothing happened.

Do the AP writers have something against the Wings?
Stevie4Pres replied to tweekvp's topic in General
I wouldn't read too much into it. I think the writer was just using that line to preface into a description of the Lidstrom goal. But I do get sick of hearing that crap about the Wings being lucky etc... So I do understand how that can get to ya. -
Sounds like the writer is just making assumptions off of Detroit's reputation without even watching a single game in this series. At no point has Nashville knocked us around. If anything, Kronner has been the one knocking heads. Besides, they have to try to hype the game for the locals and since Detroit has outplayed Nashville for the most part, they have to make up BS to keep people interested.

I've always been partial to the Bruins as my eastern conference team but normally don't care too much whether they win or lose but last night I found myself going nuts as if the Wings were wearing black and yellow jerseys. Good for your household being on the good side of that game. I think I heard a huge "F@#K" make it's way down from Montreal last night.
