I did the channel request form when I upgraded to their HD package about 3 months ago. I didn't know Versus was an SD channel, so I was dissapointed. At any rate, I never heard back from them and I wouldn't get your hopes up as WOW is a pretty s***ty cable provider. You get what you pay for though, for $100 a month I have the digital package with like 25 HD channels and the second highest speed internet they offer.

QFT The Wings' are arguably the most talented team year in and year out, but have been beaten more times than not by teams in the past who want it more. Will this team turn up the intensity and hunger? We shall see.

Great goal? Yes. Though, I'm probably one of the few on the board that is starting to get annoyed with the shootout. For a sport that used to be team centered, with the implemantation of the shootout it seems that its gravitating to the individual accomplishment and showboat attitude that you would see in the NBA. I'll take ties over that nonsense anyday.

This is news to me. Either none of the below are considered players that can fight and stick up for teammates or you have issues with addition. I count 2 of the last 4 years since the lockout with the only cup winning year being last year. 93-94: Bob Probert, Dallas Drake, Darren McCarty, Martin Lapointe 94-95: Bob Probert, Dallas Drake, Darren McCarty, Martin Lapointe, Keith Primeau 95-96: Keith Primeau, Darren McCarty, Stu Grimson, Martin Lapointe 96-97: Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty, Martin Lapointe, Jamie Pushor, Aaron Ward, Joey Kocur 97-98: Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty, Martin Lapointe, Jamie Pushor, Aaron Ward, Joey Kocur 98-99: Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty, Martin Lapointe, Aaron Ward, Joey Kocur 99-00: Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty, Martin Lapointe, Aaron Ward 00-01: Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty, Martin Lapointe, Aaron Ward 01-02: Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty, Sean Avery 02-03: Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty 03-04: Brendan Shanahan, Darren McCarty, Derian Hatcher 04-05: Lockout 05-06: Brendan Shanahan 06-07: 0 07-08: Dallas Drake, Darren McCarty, Aaron Downey 08-09: 0 Also note, that the aformentioned players had multiple fighting majors, while the team make up from 2004 and earlier still had a number of players with limited fighting majors that could still stand up for themselves if needed.

Any explanation why the other thread was deleted? Its not like Downey will never be brought up again on the boards, might as well keep all the talk in one spot.

Congrats, now please don't leave.

I think they are from Grand Rapids, so yes they are from MI, but are not representing us normal folk in the metro D area.

Okay, I'll be the first to admit, I prefer a Franzenless Red Wings team over a Hossaless team even though the financial impact would be worse. There's just something magical about Hossa when he steps on the ice. I also fear if Franzen keeps getting in scrums he shouldn't be involved in he's going to run the risk of another concussion and end up like Lils.

Bettman blocked it citing over exposure.
-
Correct, there where only two points available going into the night.
-
Agreed. I don't like the idea of rewarding the losing team, plus it seems that teams will sometimes clog the middle or play a more conservattive game before OT knowing that if they make it that far they are guaranteed the extra point. The same can be said for teams that can't feel they can win in a four on four situation and want to drag the game to a shootout in hopes of a better chance of getting the extra point.

Thank you sir for a good honest answer without causing more confrontation. However we can agree to disagree, the player I think that this team is missing more that Mac or Downey is Drake. I don't think either one will crack the lineup in the playoffs and that's the way it's supposed to be; however the presence, or lack there of in the case of an energy guy like Drake will become apparent in the playoffs when time and time again you see heart and effort win over skill.

The fans and Draper, but he's full of s***:
-
I agree with you on a lot of things Shoreline, but I'm going to have to respectively disagree with you on this. This team has NEVER won a cup without the grit/enforcer/role player type in the lineup. Until that happens, GMR in fact, is not wrong. Again, unless you are measuring success on president’s trophies and early round playoff exits. Another note, he was praising Downey last year for sticking up for him and made some sort of statement referencing that there is a place for enforcers in the game, so was he BS'ing then?

Besides the shenanigans, it’s nice to see a good line brawl.

Homer even dropped the gloves that night.
-
Yes, I believe it is on side B of the last disc. It was voted best game by the fans.

A day that helped define the team and took them to the next level. I was on a flight to Florida for Spring break my senior year of high school. I almost cried when I saw sportscenter that night knowing that I missed probably one of the greatest games in the history of the team.

Contract talks between Wings and Hossa, Franzen on hold
ManLuv4Clears replied to HockeytownRules19's topic in General
Where's your scenario where Hud's gets an offer sheet that the Wings' can't match? That would really hurt your hopes of having him center the second line. -
Rumor on the street is, if they were to build a new arena out by Hockeytown it would include a parking structure. This would help alleviate the problem with building it on the current dirt lots and taking up valuable surface area. Again, just rumors I've heard that have no validity. From a structural point of view, I hope they build the seating similar to the Joe with a little extra leg room. Not really a bad seat in the house.

Sorry, don't take offense, but you're acting like whiny *****. I didn't say the current situation is the ideal one, but that it is what it is and I'm not going to throw a tantrum about it like you. I'm one of the first to say that I think the team could use some more grit over all of the finesse. However, no matter what I say, nothing will change because I'm not Ken Holland. I'll continue to watch and enjoy, and not come onto these boards and act like a 5 year old. In your infinite wisdom of putting together a roster taking while into consideration salary cap and available funds, how would you have allocated the $750K Kenny had available for a back up goaltender? If you remember Ozzie's under contract and just won a Stanly Cup, so would you have not signed Hossa and used these monies for a back up goalie? Enlighten me.
-
I'll put myself in the group that is happy with the current goalie situation. The Wings' should consider themselves blessed to have two goalies with the talent of Ozzie and Conks at the price tag they paid. Because these two are probably underpaid versus the market, it allows the team to sign the players they do. For the future, fans should get used to these types of scenarios as well. Just like managment has shown they are going to lean toward a finesse/European style of game, the powers that be will continue to push money towards players rather than goaltenders. They've put themselves in this scenario with the cap so there's not a lot of room for a top tier, high priced netminder. We might as well get used to above average/below cost goalies that are going to give up their fair share of goals and prepare ourselves for another season of high scoring games.
