Pretty good responses from all of the players in the video, however, I don't think Steve Downie has much room to talk on this subject. Edit: People on this board have said that respect for the well being of players is down in the league and St. Louis says the same thing. I have to agree.

I like you GMR, I'll give that post a "+". I also like the explanation portion of the rating system.
-
I gave you a "+" for your post, are you singing a different tune now? Joking aside, I agree with you. It's a great feature if the system was used responsibly, however that will probably never be the case.

I'm with Micah and The Secret on this one. With the exception of a couple players it seems like there's no drive or heart out on the ice. The team for the most part seems complacent and like it's going thru the motions. Everyone thinks the likes of a Hudler is the missing piece because he can score a goal or two, but how about backing checking hard, blocking shots, and caring about not being scored on. It's been said defense wins championships.

On a professional sports level I would agree that 5th is probably where the NHL currently is, I don't count WWE either. The NHL probably won't be able to surpass any of the other 4 anytime soon and I think it has a lot to do with the TV deals. Look how much coverage NASCAR gets, I believe they are covered on ABC, FOX, ESPN, and TNT, with ESPN and SPEED having weekly or daily shows for the sport. I would love to be able to watch a nightly 30 min NHL show on ESPN.

In terms of popularity in the US, I don't even think it's close to 4th. I read somewhere that along with the NBA, NFL, and MLB, that NASCAR, and College Football/Basketball all get more viewership than the NHL. I'm sure the s***ty TV contract doesn't help. Edit: I hate Wiki as a source, but here you go: http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_do_professio...k_in_popularity On topic, I think NBC really screwed up with the chance to nationally broadcast an awesome game between the US and Canada. It would have been a great way to showcase the sport and gain some marketshare back in the process.
-
Wow, I hate to use the word fail, but that pretty much describes NBC right now. Arguably the biggest sport in the games being tape delayed and shown on some junk sister station in standard definition.

Thanks drum and UK, I'm going to watch a little tonight again. -

Thanks for posting UK, I didn't know this stream was available. I'm going to watch the Griffins more often now. -
http://www.mlive.com/redwings/index.ssf/20...strom_addr.html Maybe Ville has a hard time getting his intended point accross in the media. That may explain some of his other questionable comments after being benched.
-
From March '09: Someone should have told Ville to be assured a spot you would have to show a little effort on the ice. Good luck Ville, won't miss your attitude though.

There it is. Someone that knows that game. Btw guys, fighting after hitting a star player on a team has always been in the game. It's the scuffles after the 3rd and 4th liners get lit up that are becoming more prevelant today. I'm all for sticking up for your team's best players, head down or not. The role players are another story. In the video at hand, Richards being a top player in Dallas I have no issue with what Ott did.
-
Leino may make a turn around and he may not. At this point I would trade a bag of pucks for him because that's about what his market value is. So yes, I would make that deal.
-
Pain Train. That is all.
-
UK hit the nail on the head with saying Eaves was going to be a beast.
-
If the SO must stay, I agree that your point system is probably one of the best ways to fix the issue at hand.

Ignorance is not understanding what to correctly market to your target demographic. Using these boards as a control it would appear a lot of people don't give two s***s about the shootout. So it's good marketing pushing down fans throats that you have already won over? I would think this may alienate this group. If you like it, that's fine. Some people probably do, obviously some don't. Don't start throwing ignorance around at people because they could care less about the shootout. Lastly if the NHL was so sweet at marketing, after 5 years it may have a little better tv deal than Versus and Penguins game every Sunday on NBC.
-
This pretty much sums up my feelings. I have never liked the shootout and never will because it takes away one of the most important aspects of the game. Defense. If I wanted to watch a skills "see what I can do" competition, I'd watch the NBA.

So Ansar Khan just came out with an article stating he thinks the Wings line-up when everyone returns to health will have Leino playing on the third line and Miller being a scratch. I personally think that is garbage the way Miller has out performed Leino in pretty much every facet of the game, so I wanted to see what the other LGW Monday morning GMers think about it. Last year Leino showed a tremendous potential with a questionable attitude and this year the attitude has stayed with performance slowed. Miller has come in off the waiver wire and done more than expected but his upside could be limited. What say you if we had to scratch or send one packing? edit: I should have adjusted this to say keeping one over losing the other to waivers to make it a little more meaningful.
-
Yeah, once the team is 100% healthy I don't forsee Leino leaving the press box.
-
That just ruined my day. I was under the impression I would be watching in HD tonight, with beer in hand. Instead FSD wants to put the s***ty ass, lose 13 in a row Pistons with their 5K fans on the HD station and put an important divisional Wings game on their s***ty SD channel. Nice job guys.
-
97.1 just reported Bert out tonight with a groin injury. Don't know how accurate that is.
-
Sadly, this does have some merit.
-
Oh, the general public. It's too bad because I keep telling myself that 90% of the people out there are polite and respectful, however there are incidents like this that make me question that assumption. Unfortunately folks like this ruin it for everyone and are too ignorant to even know what asses they are making of themselves.
-
I have to agree with about 90% of the complaints in this thread. It actually pisses me off reading them and thinking about what a debacle this sport has become. There can't be one sport that can come remotely close to the NHL in terms of the amount of rule and format changes that have been implemented in such a short period of time. I don't even want to get started on the officiating or TV deal.
