Now we need grinders, character guys

Nice post. I'm hoping we keep Aaron around and in the line-up when needed next year. He brought a presence that the Wings have lacked in the past couple of seasons and I truly believe he had an indirect impact on the team's success. A lot of people on these boards will spew the "He didn't play in the playoffs so he's worthless" nonsense, but people have to understand it's a long regular season and in team sports, especially in hockey there are behind the scenes "team guys" that contribute to the winning as well.

Do the Recent Signings get Butts in the Seats this Year?

The signings along with the winning the cup will definatly help fill some empty seats. However I think having someone that doesn't mind dropping the gloves or stirring the pot consistently during the regular season may help for sellouts...

So i finished the hit tribute for Kronwall

Awesome. Kronner's the man. Better keep your head up when you're coming across the blue line boys.

Pavel Datsyuk is gong to be HUGE tonight...

Always have loved Pavel, and now after throwing haymakers in game 2, the guy has gone over the top for me. He should be huge tonight. You guys are getting me so pumped, that I can't concentrate here at work.

    Will we see McCarty tonight?

Got to agree with that. Unfortunately there's no chance, and even if there was an injury, it would be Mac before Downs. Aaron played and practiced his arse off all year, so for sentimental reasons it would be nice to see him get in one playoff game. Alot of people on these boards hate on the guy, but along with Drake, these guys brought a physical presence that the Wings have lacked for the last couple of years, and one would be a fool to think they didn't have some contribution on the rest of the guys on the team stepping up their physical play a notch.

PIT columnist: Reputations falling as fast as Penguins

Reminded me of pretty much every article Drew Sharp has written for the FREEP, with the exception of course that this guy has intelligance, a sense of humor, and is a realist.

What rule change would you make?

I'm with you on this one, I mentioned that in the old thread as well. I also want the instigator gone so players can police themselves in turn allowing for less cheap shots.

Malone wants players to "get their elbows and sticks up"

Good Post Opie. The lack of respect in the game has come in direct correlation with the instigator rule. Drop this POS rule, and players can police themselves and you'll see less cheap shots and BS like Avery pulled.

    Fan of fighting in hockey?

Well rounded article includes training, the code, love it or hate it views, and history. It's from a unique perspective. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/eticket/story?page=goons

    Fan of fighting in hockey?

That is ridiculous the amount of time and energy some of the hardcore fans put into it, I guess they just take it to the next level; no matter how high that level is. But, you aren't kidding about the older era. Probert and Kocur could take and more importanty give. It's interesting how times have changed. I did find the following excerpt interesting:

General Ticket Broker Question for Wings Fans

I think it hurts in a sense that if the ticket prices aren't high enough for this economy already; somtimes on sites like StubHub you'll see the ticket prices bumped up another 25% or more over face value.

That it is. Should be a great series.

    Red Wings Playoff MVP

What's great about this thread is there is no clear cut name. We have had a number of guys mentioned that have all played excellent hockey thus far in the playoffs. That speaks volumes for the talent of this team.

    Red Wings Playoff MVP

Tough call. I would have to say Ozzie at this point. His numbers stand for themself and he has made some huge key saves including last night to help shut the opposition down. Edit: Spelling

Haha, yeah you look like you're in a not so happy mood. I'm supposed to go to Royal Oak tomorrow for a "Wine Stroll" if I see that face I'm going to run the other way. On the thread note, I can only grow the soul patch so I'm sticking to that.

    Poll: Pick a Positive Change

Instigator. I do like the idea of eliminating the shoot-out as well, go back to 2 points for a win and 1 for a tie. Then you also won't need a master's degree in algebra to determine who has the possiblity to make or miss the playoffs. Edit: And no points for an OT loss

Wall Street Journal analyzes Hockeytown woes

Damn, I've been to 7 games this year including 2 in the playoffs, and have been blessed with an okay paying job, but I can't justify paying more than the $140 a ticket I paid last Thursday. I love my Wings and all, but that's just too much.
