Stevie was the epitome of an NHL captain. The guy was just a warrior.
-
What fans? Certainly not Detroit fans from the warm welcome he receives everytime he returns to the Joe.
-
Disgusting.

I thought this was pretty cool. The guys at ESPN where doing live chatting during an ESPN.com Thursday Night hockey segment and they replied to my question about it, though they didn't really say anything special or out of the ordinary: They did also say earlier in the thread that they think the NHL will be on ESPN again in time.

I'll chime in on this one, and this isn't directed at you Doc. However, last year or sometime before there was a thread about attendance problems at the Joe. Being that I live in Metro Detroit, frequent games and bars, I had to comment that blue collar Detroit hockey fans love their rougher edge players. I mentioned that having a player like this would help attendance problems at the Joe, however wouldn't be the be-all/end-all solution to sell outs. I was then proceeded to get hazed by some posters (not to be named) in the traditional hockey markets of Texas, California, and somewhere else that this type of player would have NO impact on fans in this area, their interest in the team, or attendance at the game. I continue to disagree.

Not too shab for a 38 year-old. Should have had a goal too. name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>&"> name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350" />

Another reason why people don't take the NHL seriously.

Throw me into the hate shoot out crowd. I'll take ties all day long over that side show. 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie, 0 for a loss. Very simple.
-
Agreed, he was playing with some spark on Thursday night, but then again the whole team seemed to be playing with a little more aggression.
-
What a story. Thanks for sharing. Any idea how the little girl is making out?

Agree and agree. This team played with a chip on their shoulder last night, and I liked it.

This was the kind of game that makes me love hockey. Great intensity throughout, players skating and forechecking hard, excellent goaltending, the occasional after the whistle scuffle and even a Brad May donnybrook. I thought Eaves, Helm, and Abs looked great, they were all over the place hitting anything that moved. I don't need a bunch of goal scoring to be entertained; I'm more than content with a 3-1 outcome in a game like this.

I've been to two games thus far this year (Chicago and San Jose) and will probably attend another 4-5. I try and go about 5-10 times a year. On a positive note from the games I've been at and from watching on TV the Joe looks to be having less empty seats than in years past. Don't ask me why though, economy is still s***ty and the tickets prices haven't dropped substantially.

Great game thus far.
-
Eaves showing a little chip on the shoulder side tonight too, I'm really starting to like this kid.
-
Patrick has been a pleasant suprise this year. He's skating hard and looking good. Hopefully he keeps it up.

Yes, the respect between fellow players and their well-being has diminished greatly over the last few years. It doesn't appear to be taking any turns for the better either. I wonder what has happened in this league to make it go away?
-
CBC said in the groin. Ouch.
-
I did see him get smoked once or twice, I don't think that has much to do with benching for motivation though unless he was putting himself in bad situations by trying to hard. I doubt that's the case though.
-
Yup. The NHL has alienated it's older fan base by changing a niche sport and trying to push the new version down the throats of folks who have no interest in it. The game has taken steps backwards IMO, but then again, I'm old school. I don't might a little clutching and grabbing and would take a tie over the circus act known as the shootout.

Racism: 1.) a belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race http://www.aolsvc.merriam-webster.aol.com/dictionary/racism I don't think this was racist, but it could probably fall into the discrimination relm though. Either way, this is very over blown.

Anyone hear how long he's out for? I'm taking my old man to the game on Thursday and it would be nice to see some May day action.
-
Great, apparantly he doesn't like working hard or cash. That's a matter of opinion, there's lots of guys in the AHL that perform well that can't do s*** in the big leagues. If so, I hope that he understands that and this lights a fire under his ass. Niether one of us can prove or dis-prove his work ethic, we can only have opinions on it based off what we see on the ice.
