Yes, I'd allow him to use the bathroom. I figure, why be 100% cruel, when I can be 99% cruel. As for the food I'd give him....I'd make sure it wasn't delicious. In other words, I'd make him eat my sister's cooking. Yeesh.

Hockey players are rich in that they make a ton more scratch than you or I, but I'd rather hang out with say Nick or Hank than Kobe Bryant or Tom Brady. Hockey players aren't "wealthy" in that way that top athletes in other sports are. They don't make that kind of money. So while they're rich and famous, they aren't as spoiled by that money and fame as other people in their shoes would be.

First, I'd tell him I hate his guts and think he's a whiny brat that doesn't deserve the talent he has, as he doesn't use it maturely. Then, I'd say while I DO think he's talented, he could learn a thing or twelve about being a grown man and it's something he might want to work on. Then I'd lock him a room for the other 23 hours and 45 minutes of the day, only allowing him out to use the bathroom. I'd give him food through the door.

I agree with you, it definitely was one of those galvanizing moments, similar to probably only the months following Pearl Harbor. I think what I was more getting at, was while there was a lot of "ra-ra USA" going on, it was mostly just general rooting for our Olympians rather than a focused interest in any particular sport or event. I watched the gold medal game that year because I wanted to see Steve get a medal, but there wasn't this insane amount of "ZOMG YOU MUST WATCH THIS OR YOU'LL DIE!!!" going on.

To be honest, we were only 5 months removed from 9/11 at that point, I doubt very seriously anyone cared too much about the Olympics, as much of a welcome distraction as they were. I would caution people against being overconfident and arrogant.....you'll find yourself wishing you had shown some restraint.

No matter the outcome of this game, I found a bag of triple pepperoni pizza rolls in my freezer, so at least my mini-midnight snack won't suck.

The idea of Canada being forced to play for a bronze medal rather than a gold makes me grin like the Joker.

To be honest, no. I've never seen my parents go at it with each other or even with my sister and I. We're more passive....when we get pissed, we get very moody. It's quite possible my parents fought when my sister and I were asleep wouldn't hear them, but knowing their temperament like I do....I doubt it.

Maybe if the Canadian team all randomly started speaking Swedish, the Slovaks might think they're playing them again and turn on the faucet. Someone hand Babs a Swedish-English dictionary.
