The only sport in the Winter Olympics I watch is figure skating. I'd like to see Nick and Co. repeat as gold medalists, but in reality.....I don't really care who wins.
-
Yes to the first question, hell no to the second. Part of me thinks you should play your whole career with the Wings to get your number retired, and barring that, you must become the embodiment of the franchise while you're there. He fits neither criteria.

Have a nice life after hockey.
-
Not a chance. Sorry, we just don't retire the numbers of every player who won a bunch of rings.

Gary Bettman and Bud Selig are two of the worst commissioners in North American professional sports.

I don't like shootouts either but I am resigned to the fact they aren't going anywhere anytime soon. Personally, regular season games should be played like playoff games. You play until someone wins. If it takes 6 OTs, then so be it. Also, no points should be awarded for a loss, whether it comes in OT or a shootout. To quote Gene Wilder, "You LOSE. You get NOTHING." Why should a team that couldn't win in regulation be rewarded for not winning in regulation? It's asinine.

Chicago chants "Detroit Sucks" when Hawks play other teams?
Electrophile replied to Miller Brew's topic in General
While I agree that there are quite a few Chicagoans who can't drive for s*** (and they all have to get on the Kennedy at the same damn time, too), the worst drivers EVER are in Atlanta. Sweet sassy molassy. If so much as 1/100th of moisture hits the roadways, everyone starts driving like it's the Indy 500 and all the drivers are tweaking on meth. The accidents pile up like firewood. And if it snows? Get out. Seriously. Get out. It's safer for you to never enter city limits, lest you take your chances in Thunderdome. -

It's official. pat_honda is an embarrassment to Chicagoans everywhere. Please don't think that jack-off speaks for me or Vladifan, who are proud and SANE Chicagoans. We're not all like this guy, nor do we strive to be like him either. My apologies, I don't know how Mayor Daley let him loose from his cage. -
I hope everyone remembers this thread the next time the Wings lose 2 in a row to some crappy teams. Suddenly we're gonna suck again, everyone is lazy and should be traded and our entire coaching staff and front office should be drawn & quartered, after they're fired.

Please don't insult all Illinoisans. Some of us....such as myself....are pretty damn awesome. -

Absolutely. It doesn't bother me when they do it. I think it's lame, but not lame as in it makes me made or something. -

Yes. You don't get it, you don't want to get it, therefore nothing anyone here says will allow you to get it. BTW, you're not defending your city. I'm from Chicago, dear. I went to a s***-ton of Hawks/Wings games in my life, both at the old Chicago Stadium and then at the United Center. There are some real ******* Hawks fans and I had the displeasure of sitting near them. That said, there's assholes in every fan base. It's not like anyone is saying Wings fans are little angels who never do anything wrong. -

One, learn to use the quote feature. Two, as a native Chicagoan, you're embarrassing me and therefore yourself. Three, "_____ Sucks" is boring, overdone and used by everyone, all the time, everywhere. It's not even effective at pissing anyone off. Whenever I hear it, I start laughing. -

I don't really care what fans of opposing teams have to say about us during games. Oh wow, they're chanting "Detroit Sucks". I root for the Yankees....if I can take what I hear about them during games, I can take what Hawks fans have to say about the Wings. Frankly, I think "Detroit Sucks" is horribly and tragically unoriginal and therefore, boring. -
When they gave Hank that huge contract, that was basically a not-so-obvious way of saying that he would be the successor to Nick's captaincy once Nick retires. They haven't come right out and said anything, but they didn't when it was nearing the time for Steve to retire, either. It was just understood that Nick would be captain and that was that. The team has a lot of faith in Hank and his talent/abilities, and I think by giving him such a large, essentially for-life contract, they were making their intentions known. With Pavs, I think he'll be what Nick was for so many seasons. 2nd in command, and Hank's right hand man. The other A will probably go to either Franzen or Cleary, depending on who makes that next big impact.
-
And of course the one game I miss, Hank gets his hat trick. That would be typical.
-
Mindfly left? Boy, you miss one game and everything changes.
-
Never, I don't live anywhere near Detroit.
-
YAY insurance goal! Winning is fun.
-
Come on guys, I'd like an insurance goal.
-
Do people actually listen to him anymore? If he told me the sky was blue, I'd have to go outside and check first before I believed him.
-
I agree with this.
-
Oooh yay, Hank scored! Now if he can just get two more.....
-
Wings win, Hank with the hat trick. Sooner or later, it'll happen.

That's about the truth of it. Normally I hate it when people elevate athletes to god-like or mythical stature only because you're giving them a position they don't deserve. They're just guys and girls paid to play a sport. Steve is different. I can't think of anyone else in any other sport who is so universally loved and admired, even by fans of rival teams. Maybe Lou Gehrig, but he's been gone for 68 years now. I miss him. Even though our team is hardly s***, we could use someone like him, just sitting in the locker room.
