Theo Fleury wants back in to the bar...i mean nhl
Electrophile replied to soultrain's topic in General
Those of you [seriously] saying you want him on this team......you're not really serious, are you? Maybe we can coax Gretzky out of retirement and sign him too! -
Too bad I can't watch any of these games. Lovely.

You can adjust where your face is in the frame, how big/small it is and the skin color so that your picture blends in well with the tone of the picture provided. It's a ton of fun. I have more! 1966 1976 1992 I actually used to wear my hair like that - it would take me an hour to get the waterfall in the front just right. Even at the age of 10 I knew hair was important. 1988

There's this really fun website called Yearbook Yourself. What you do is upload a full-on picture of your face and it'll replace your face in high school yearbook photos from 1950 to 2000. Here are some of mine: 1952 1964 1982 [the year I was born]

My parents taught me to fight only when all other alternatives have been exhausted or don't apply. Obviously if some guy grabs me on the street and starts assaulting me, I'm not going to try and reason with him. I'm going to fight for my life. However nothing like that happened here. If the two of us were in a bar let's say, and you're sitting on your stool drinking a beer and having a good time and suddenly I come up to you, get in your face and say "hey *******, parking lot...NOW." are you going to get up and follow me to the parking lot? Hell no, you'll probably tell me to shut the eff up and go back to your beer. If I then come back after you and knock you off the stool after you clearly indicated to me previous that you don't want to get into a fight, wouldn't that make me look like a dick or at least the female equivalent to a dick? Probably. Would you be at fault for not taking up my invitation to fight? No, I'd be at fault because I went after someone who wanted nothing to do with me. I think that's the issue here. The other goalie wanted no part of a fight with Roy and Roy took it upon himself to create a fight where there had been none, and to me that makes him a dick. If you're going to fight with someone, as you yourself even pointed out, both parties should be willing participants. Where was this other goalie a willing participant?
-
Fair enough. Although I never said fighting wasn't a part of hockey - I noticed you emphasized that portion of your statement.
-
Seems like someone thinks Gordon Gekko is a role model.

When does hockey get to stop hiding behind the "it's hockey" defense? Hockey is a physical sport. I get that. There will be fights, hard checks, pucks being shot up at people, I get that. All that is part of the game. I have never said otherwise. That being said, beating the hell out of someone who doesn't want to fight.....is that a part of hockey? What about when McSorely swung his hockey stick like a golf club and whacked Brashear in the head with it, on camera? Is that part of hockey? Both those incidents, if occurring on the street outside a bar or something, would get the offending party thrown in the hoosegow. I'm curious as to where some of you think the line is drawn, if it in fact exists. Why should hockey players get to do whatever the hell they want to each other, sometimes to the other person's physical detriment, just because there's other allowable physical elements to the sport?
-
I think if you challenge someone to a fight and they clearly give off signs that they don't want to, that should be the end of it. You want to fight, he doesn't. Okay then, there's no fight. Choosing to then go after the guy anyway just makes you look like a dick. I'm all for fighting in hockey provided both parties want to actually fight each other. Otherwise it looks stupid.

Oh wait, so the second dude is from Mighty Ducks? Okay, I've heard of that movie. I've never seen it, so I wouldn't know what any characters are named.
-
Sorry to be "that person", but I haven't heard of either character.

There will be more threads about Sidney Crosby than Nick Lidstrom.

It's infuriating, isn't it?

I wasn't necessarily defending the merits of the design itself, just the fact that simplicity alone doesn't make a logo/design bad. The Wings' logo is pretty simple, but says a lot about the city of Detroit.
-
No offense, but who cares if the design isn't complex? I took Advertising, in fact that was my major and to be honest, sometimes the more simple a logo/design is, the more effective it is. Take McDonalds for example. Everyone knows the Golden Arches. I don't know anyone on the planet Earth who doesn't see that and immediately know Mickey D's. The genius of its longevity and marketability is the fact it's so bloody simple. It's a damn set of arches that look like an M. Wow. Groundbreaking s***. KISS is not just a rock band, you know.

Some people just can't control themselves.

What an odd, odd analogy. BTW, those "indiscretions" of Manson's took the lives of 7 people, one of whom was an unborn baby. Show a little class.

It's September 4th. It sucked for a while and I avoided sports TV for a couple of weeks.....but then I realized "s*** happens" and I got over it. Because that's what you need to do to move on with your life. There's a new season right around the corner, we have some new players - time to look forward, not back. Besides, I've got my baseball team that is occupying a lot of my time right now and I'm far more concerned with what they're doing at the moment than something Pittsburgh did like 3 months ago.
-
While I generally dislike the idea of a third jersey, if the team were to use an old logo as a throwback, that would be neat. Some teams had some interesting logos back in the day and at least that way you're throwing a little history at the kids.

The problem with TBS is that they already have a contract with a major sports league - they broadcast Braves games since they're based in Atlanta. So for TBS to take on a contract from the NHL to broadcast games, it would have to be profitable for them. I believe TBS also broadcasts NASCAR races and events, although don't quote me on that. I can't stand car racing so I wouldn't know from having watched it.

I feel bad for those affected by this, but nothing happened to me. When we moved from Alpharetta to North Carolina, we went from Comcast to TimeWarner and Versus isn't on our cable system and neither is the NHL Network. There is no tier you can order to get either of those stations either. I wish the NHL would work something out with ESPN because that was the best. Steal Gary Thorne away from calling Orioles games (seriously, the Yankees are playing the O's right now and he sucks as a baseball announcer) and get Bill Clement back and life will be good.

I don't hate the Lakers. I hate basketball. There's a difference. Now for those that DO like basketball.....they probably hate the Lakers because GASP! they like the Pistons. The majority of Red Wings fans here live in Michigan, so it stands to reason that they'd follow the Pistons. For those that like basketball but don't live in Michigan, they follow either the local team or whatever damn team they want. Why are you so insistent on thinking that if you like the Red Wings, you must like the Lakers? That makes no sense. You make no sense. This thread makes no sense. I'm beginning to not make sense, now look what you did.
-
Isn't two regular jerseys enough? You have one for home games, one for road games. That should suffice. The Winter Classic jersey was very nice, but it was a one-off thing. We don't need a third jersey.
-
Would have been funnier if you compared Darren to someone who never played for a Detroit team.

I normally don't agree with him, but Broken 16 is right here. The very idea of prostitution is on its face, victimless. Woman wants money, man wants sex, man gets laid, woman gets paid. She leaves the car/motel room, transaction over. Where the act of prostitution no longer becomes victimless is when the woman is assaulted by a john or her pimp, if she is forced into it by a husband/boyfriend/family member, if she is raped rather than a willing participant.....those acts change everything. However, I have watched quite a few documentaries/programs about prostitution and prostitutes and most of them were dancers who found they could make more money quicker by going to the stroll. One program talked about the prostitutes outside the casinos in Atlantic City and how a lot of them can make thousands of dollars a client. To a woman who maybe doesn't have a high school diploma and therefore can't even get a job working the Fry-o-Lator at McDonalds, that kind of money is more than tempting. So prostitution is not always victimless. Let's qualify it that way. Assault is NEVER victimless.
