I HATE basketball.

Honestly, no. I wasn't implying he DIDN'T do those things, just that I hadn't seen it. I usually don't focus on that kind of stuff unless it's really overt, as in exaggerated body language or something. If Steve is bent over to take a face-off and he's giving the ref the business, I'm not going to notice that unless the ref reacts to it in someway.

Probably because they don't see the two crimes as being on an equal level. Also, maybe some of them have had sex with a hooker before and don't want to judge Hudler for it because they'll then be judging themselves. If they've never beaten anyone up while drunk, it's easier then to say "Hey, Jiri is just a rich guy having a good time but Kane is an *******." Or maybe they just think someone's peccadilloes are no one's business and since no one got hurt, it doesn't matter. Just theorizing here, nothing concrete.

I wasn't aware Nick got pissed off. No matter the situation, he always seems so even-keeled out there - like he's got ice water running in his veins. Nick always seemed like Steve in that respect. I don't remember if Steve was real mouthy out there early in his career but when I started following the team in the early 90s, he seemed sedate. Not that he wasn't fired up, just that he'd glare at you or something and that was his way of saying "back off, assface."

I'm not disagreeing with you insofar as if Hudler was cheating or just seeing a hooker and what that says about his character. My whole point (that got dragged from that thread to this one) was that what goes on in a player's private life (i.e., their sex life) is none of our business. It is not meant for public consumption. Hudler could be having threesomes with hookers and donkeys for all I care. What he does with his genitals is none of our concern. Patrick Kane got drunk and beat up an older man in his taxi cab over less than a quarter's worth of money. That's not his private life on display. He chose to get drunk, he chose to go out in public while drunk, he chose to beat up a guy over twenty cents in change. Patronizing a hooker is not illegal everywhere. Beating someone up while drunk off your ass is, however. That's the difference between the two, at least from my perspective and where I'm sitting. I can understand if you don't see a difference morals-wise between the two. However legally.....big difference. Even if what Hudler did was illegal. Prostitution is a victimless crime. Assault isn't.

I am 7 hours from Nashville. If he signed with the Preds, I'd have to open all my windows so that your hysterical screams of joy wouldn't shatter them like in that Memorex commercial.

Prostitution should be legalized. As George Carlin put it, "Selling is legal. F*cking is legal. Why isn't selling f*cking legal?" Tax it, regulate it like they do in Amsterdam and everywhere in Nevada but Vegas and then let consenting adults who want to pay for sex do it and be done with it. Anyway, Hudler had sex with a woman and paid for it. Whoop-de-doo. Most men "pay" for sex anyway, through one means or another. Patrick Kane got drunk, went in public while drunk (thereby creating a hazard for anyone who crossed his path), got into a taxi cab and beat up an old man (I heard he's about 60) over TWENTY CENTS. That is nowhere near the vicinity of paying for some vajayjay. The woman who Hudler paid consented to the act. Do you think the cabbie consented to getting beat up by some spoiled little snot puke over less than a quarter? Yeah, so don't compare Hudler and Kane. Who knows what legality prostitution has where he is......assault is always illegal.
-
You don't see a difference between patronizing a prostitute and getting drunk and beating up a cabbie? Apparently not. Your sex life is your private life. Getting drunk in public and assaulting someone is not your private life. One has ramifications on your career and your team, the other doesn't.

If Iginla is there, they might as well gone whole-hog and put Pronger on there too.

I can tell you with 100% certainty that if a member of our team was in Kane's position, my opinion would be unchanged. In fact, I'd be more pissed. So the team he plays for means squat to me.

People. You mean people. Anyway, I love the attitude some people have around here. That alcohol somehow absolves you from accepting the ramifications of your actions, because hey......we've all been young and drunk right? Brother. Maybe you all didn't have the upbringing that I did which is fine, everyone's parents are different, but I was taught that you don't use alcohol as an excuse to behave in other ways than you would if you were not drinking. I've never been drunk. Ever. Don't plan on it either, I hate not being in 100% control of myself and everything around me BUT I have drank before. I've not been loud, reckless, disrespectful or violent. Is it difficult to have a couple drinks with friends and not turn into a lout? The way some of you talk it is. Kane is an *******. He got drunk and then beat someone up. Had he stopped at just the "getting drunk" part, no one here would have batted an eyelash. He chose to take it to the next level and for that, he deserves to be excoriated.

Really? 20 year olds regularly get drunk and beat up cabbies? Funny, I was 20 once and sure as hell never did that neither did my friends. They wouldn't be my friends now if they pulled s*** like that. Why are people using his age as some kind of excuse for this? I think 20 years old is well past the age one should be when they learn getting drunk and beating people up is wrong.
-
It is. I'm not sure how it works, vis-a-vis getting drunk in Canada where you're legal and then getting arrested when drunk down here where you're not.
-
Like I said in the other thread. The poor pwecious snowfwake. He has to apowogize. *******. Apologize to the cabbie you beat the hell out of over $0.20 while you were drunk, you little puke.

Strung out = heroin Meth head = crystal meth Can I get a citation on McCarty having a drug problem? I knew he had an alcohol problem, but drugs? That's new to me.
-
Oh wow. 1 year conditional discharge and they have to issue an apology. Poor widdle snowfwakes. They have to apowogize. God DAMN I hate how our justice system treats people who have money.

I can hear Kristi screaming from here.

Well, the United States isn't Britain (or Scotland) and our tax laws and regulations are just a tad bit different. Your employer is not responsible for making sure your taxes are paid.....you are. You have to file your own tax returns every year, either jointly or separately, depending on how your finances are handled. Most people choose to have an accountant work out all the numbers so they know how much they'll either have to pay or how much they're getting back in a refund, but the onus is on the individual to make sure that by April 15th, the IRS has a state (if your state has a tax) and federal tax form from them.

I don't think he's old enough to vote for anything other than white milk or chocolate with lunch.

IIHF refuses to grant transfer card to Jiri Hudler
Electrophile replied to PRStoetzer's topic in General
Good Christ. He wanted to leave, we said he could go......so what's the problem here? As much as I didn't want him to leave the team, he chose to do so. Okay then. Now he supposedly has a new team to play for that he feels will better suit his needs. What's the deal with all this dumbass back-and-forth? -
Not liking Bertuzzi has nothing to do with cheering IF we win the Stanley Cup this year. I can't stand the son of a *****. I won't boo him or jeer him or shout insults at him when he's on the ice, but that doesn't mean I'm going to like him. IF we win the Cup this season, of course I'll cheer because I'm a Red Wings fan. I'll always be a Red Wings fan regardless of where Bertuzzi plays. I don't however, think he's going to be the difference between us winning or losing the Cup, if that's what you're implying.

So what? He made a disaster of his personal life, but he was able with the help of friends and family that cared for him, to climb out of that disaster and right the ship. You can't root for someone who can take a pile of lemons and make lemonade out of it? Is the idea of recovering from personal demons and coming out the other side a better person completely foreign to you? No offense, but that's just dumb.
-
Morals when it comes to what? I would consider myself a person that has morals, regardless of the sports teams I root for. Now when you're talking about baseball.....would you say that I have no morals regarding the sport? Possibly. I don't care about steroids and basically think the majority of the sport has been juicing since about 1988, including players on my team that haven't been outed yet. I don't really care, I don't consider myself a purist in that respect. There are players in the HOF now who used amphetamines, cocaine, crack, scuffed balls, used spit balls, stole signs....did all sorts of things that are illegal and meant to give you an advantage over the competition. I'm not going to get all uppity about steroids when far worse went on decades ago. Now if you mean you can't have morals and root for the Yankees because of money reasons, I have to disagree. It ain't my money, as long as Steinbrenner puts a quality product on the field every year (and he does), I don't care how much it costs. We don't win every year, but we weren't winning when I started following them (1994) so I figure much like the Red Wings, there's a cycle to success. We'll have another run and then we'll go through the valley again. It happens. Now if you meant morals in some other way aside from what I said above, you'll have to elaborate.

SOMEONE NEEDS TO FIND ME TAPE OF THIS WHEN IT HAPPENS. You can't see it right now but I am actually crying I am laughing so hard. I can barely see the screen.

Ahh, nothing like the sweet smell of broad-brush generalizing and stereotyping in the afternoon. Almost as good as the smell of fresh-baked chocolate chip cookies. I am curious though as to what a "little girly poster" is. When I think of a "little girly poster", this is what I see: Maybe that's what you had in mind?
