If this team was the 5th or 6th seed, I could completely understand the anger, and the whining and the bitterness and the resentment and the drama that happens around here. After winning the Cup last year, to end up that low would be a complete and utter disappointment. But we're #2, and a close #2 at that. It hardly warrants it. But let them kvetch.

Like I said in the GDT from Sunday's game; let the Sharks take the #1 seed and let whomever gets the 8th seed deal with them. If they give us fits, I can't imagine they'll roll over and die for San Jose. Maybe they'll do us a favor and knock them out to make our lives easier.

While I agree with this, I shudder to think what'll be said about Conklin if we have to put him in and he folds. Personally, I don't know what he'll do in that situation should it come down to it. I'd like to think he'd do what Ozzie did last season when he had to come in for Hasek, but who knows. Who do we have next down the pipe after Conks?

A mullet on anyone outside of the following areas [Kentucky, West Virginia, Arkansas] should be punishable with jail time. I live in the South, these people take pride in that haircut.

Should we abandon the race? I don't know if abandon is the right word. Abandon makes me think of "give up" and we should never do that. I think getting it will be very difficult, but not impossible....but I'd rather the Wings just show some intensity, some verve here. If we get it, the fates aligned for us. If we don't, at least we finished the season off with some gusto.

Do you think the team as presently constructed can do that? Assuming the roster doesn't change at all between now and then, aside from Babcock potentially choosing Conks over Ozzie to start in goal. I think they can, we've seen it from them before. This team is not that fundamentally different than last year's squad.

Oh God yes. We have to keep him. I hope Kenny can work some magic and keep both him and Hossa, because they are just too valuable to let go.

While I agree that taking the #1 seed is slowly drifting away, it can still happen. I'd like to see the Wings attack these last 6 games with some intensity. If anything else, it'll show that we're not meandering into the playoffs, rather we are diving right in. Even if we end up #2, if they turn their amps up to 11, I'll be more than satisfied with that finish. I believe I was the one that mentioned the fact that whether Ozzie is in net or Conklin is, if the defense is s***ting the bed in front of them, we're going to lose regardless. Hell, Terry Sawchuk in front of this defense right now would be in trouble. I think that is really the bigger problem, rather than goaltending. An average goalie in front of above-average defense will come on top the majority of the time. An average goalie in front of below-average defense will be on the back-end of a loss more times than not. If the goaltending situation is what it is, meaning it's Ozzie/Conks or bust.....the defense really, really, really needs to pick up the slack. Nick's been a little off, but I don't know how much of that can be attributed to his elbow or the fact he's going to be 39 in a few weeks. I'd put more money on the elbow since I'm pretty sure there were rumors around the AS break that he'd need surgery on it in the off-season. This team is in trouble on a couple different fronts, but they can be fixed before it becomes BIG trouble.

Keep insulting me. You have absolutely no idea why I'm a fan, how I root for the team, why I root for the team, why I continue to root for the team even though I live miles from Detroit......but you keep running your pie hole like you do. By all means, keep the insults coming.

Well clearly we need Conklin to step in and step up. I think at this point the starting playoff job is Conks' to lose and I hope he can handle that. What we have seen of him this year has been good, he's definitely taken over when we needed him to.....it looks like we're going to need him to again. And yeah, our defense needs work. While Ozzie has been a big problem all year, the defense hasn't been much better and in some ways contributed to Ozzie's less than stellar season. It doesn't matter who we put in goal, if our defense isn't doing its job, we won't win.

Au contraire, I do care. I just don't see the point in saying he sucks over and over again as if it's going to change anything. I want Conklin playing the rest of the year, but that doesn't mean I hate Ozzie or think he should drawn and quartered.

Hmmm, so according to you I don't care about the Wings, I'm not passionate about the team and I don't care when they lose. HAHAHA. Wow, that was so far off-base, you slid off the face of the earth. I guess to you, being passionate is screaming, ranting and saying people suck. You don't know me from a hole in the wall, so save your armchair psychoanalysis for someone else. BTW, I was a Wings fan when they were still called The Dead Things and I was living in the heart of Hawks country. You can't NOT be passionate about your sports team and be in that situation. I took a lot of s*** from people growing up because I just had to root for the Red Wings but hey......you apparently know me soooooooooooo well.

I guess until we're a .500 team (although I seriously doubt that'll happen any time soon). I just don't get angry when the Wings lose anymore. It's disappointing and upsetting knowing how we good we are and how great we can play, but I acknowledge that no one is perfect and that another game is around the corner.

Let San Jose deal with the bottom-feeder teams if they're this geared up to play top seeds. Maybe they'll do us a favor and knock the Sharks out.

Supporting someone isn't the same as saying someone else shouldn't play if they are capable of doing better. Maybe some folks around here need to realize that. If Babs thinks Conks is better at this juncture, then that's what I think. But that doesn't mean I don't support him. I support all the guys on the team, regardless of how they're playing but if they need to sit.....they need to sit. Too many people around here confuse support with blind allegiance.
