Well no, we don't play for the Wings, they do. But when you're at a sporting event, and you hear people chanting "We're #1!", I don't think you'd correct them and say "well really, they're #1, we're just the goobers sitting here watching". I say "we" all the time when talking about sports teams I root for. As in "we're better than this" or "we can do better" or "we're going to win it all". It may be annoying to some people, but fans are as much as part of the organization as the players are, we just have a different role in it all. My $0.02.

Okay, let's assume this theory of yours holds water. I'd be pissed off they cheated the fans out of 100% of their time and talent. Winning the Cup, if we do indeed repeat this year, won't change that. I'd still be pissed they thought phoning it in was actually an option. Sure they'd prove you can win the Cup without even trying, but what does that say about them as athletes? What does that say about the coaching staff that they'd okay this malarkey? To think the Red Wings are intentionally holding back or phoning it in or otherwise NOT giving 100% regardless of the outcome is saying you think they're lazy, uncommitted and not willing to work hard to get what they want. Which frankly, doesn't sound anything like the team I've been rooting for going on two decades.

That just makes absolutely no sense at all. Why would they do it and what would they stand to gain by doing it? Yeah they're in 1st place right now, but it's hardly rock solid. I can't honestly believe you think this team is intentionally phoning it in. I can understand trying to rationalize why they have been playing so poorly, but come on. This is too far beyond the realm of "plausibility" to even be fathomable.

I don't see anything through rose-colored glasses. This team is flawed. I've said that before, I'll keep saying it. The difference between them and me is I don't think those flaws are unfixable and the death of the team. Realism is great when it's tempered by perspective.

No, what I'm doing is taking the words people are actually saying (not words I've made up) and using them against them. If they want to say the team is s***, we won't get past the 1st round, it's time to make tee times, we won't repeat.....yada yada yada, well......I'm throwing those words back in their faces. If they end up being right when all is said and done, then they end up being right. However, I prefer to think that we're in 1st place and fighting for the President's Trophy, with a team that is virtually the same as last year's Cup-winning squad. I have faith that the guys will hunker down and do what they need to in order to repeat.

This is what I do to temper my anger when the guys screw up. I was a fan of the team back when Bowman wasn't coaching yet and we couldn't buy a win with someone else's money. I remember when we were the Dead Things. That is vividly implanted in my brain. We are absolutely nowhere near the level of suckitude those teams were. Nowhere. So when people start going unglued when we lose, I remind myself it's been worse and it will get better. If they don't want to have any kind of perspective, that's not my problem, now is it?

Conklin did NOT play great. HE DID NOT PLAY GREAT. Saying that somehow if Ozzie was playing instead it would be a blowout is completely ignoring the fact that it is impossible to say how one person would play over the other AND the fact that Conklin was the goalie for the game and he completely s*** the bed in the last few minutes. That is on Conklin and our defense for not doing their jobs. This absurd obsession with Babcock you have is completely unhealthy and unhinged. Grow up. Okay, okay, you can man the booth too. I don't think that's what Shoreline was trying to say. I think he was trying to say that being pessimistic and "doom-and-gloom" isn't any better than being absurdly pie in the sky. Rather, it's better to be optimistic than pessimistic. Refusing to dig the team's grave is not on its face, an indication that you're ignoring the team's problems.
