Higher All Time Ranking: Yzerman or Lidstrom?
Electrophile replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
We've won a Stanley Cup without Steve, proving that a team captained and dominated by Europeans can in fact do it. Could we have won a Stanley Cup without Nick? Therein lies who truly is/was more valuable to this team's successes. -
Chris Osgood Gets To Third Base With Stanley Cup
Electrophile replied to Reds4Life's topic in General
The point/counterpoint was bar-none, the funniest thing the Onion has written. I cried the first time I read it, I was laughing that hard. -
Curses? Come on. What next, ghosts goblins and ghouls too?

*le sigh*

I swear, Ozzie is aging backward. He looks my age if not younger, and I'm 26.
-
I had to capture him in that Beastie Boys shirt for my avatar. Hopefully now when people talk about Chris Osgood, they do so under the knowledge he's one of the top goalies of all time and will probably be the best goalie in Red Wings history.
-
He and Ozzie have both aged well, I think. And with Ozzie, I'm dying for someone to ask him if he has a portrait of Dorian Gray in his attic.

You can't really fast-forward, at least I haven't seen a way to do it. You're stuck listening to crap until they get to him.

Higher All Time Ranking: Yzerman or Lidstrom?

Was Steve better than those players based on numbers and stats or because we're Red Wings fans and we've basically canonized him? I have the same argument with Yankees fans over Derek Jeter. -
Ozzie is my #1 guy. I love him. Just love him. And you don't know what it means to us Ozziephiles who finally get to see him getting the recognition and respect he's earned for what he's done. It's like one big "I told you so".

I wonder where I could find that shirt he's wearing.
-
Get well soon, Homer......here's to many more ridiculous obstruction penalties in your future.
-
How freakin' adorable was he? I'm convinced he's really in his 20s. Great interview, and really what I was hoping Leno would have been like.
-
I still remember him screaming his ****** head off at Scotty Bowman and Scotty just standing there with his hand over his ear like he was saying "What? Huh? You were saying?". It was hilarious. That and the Bertuzzi/Moore incident didn't endear him to anyone.
-
More reason to love this man. Better late than never, Oz fans.
-
Good Lord, Ozzie is all over the place right now. Not that I'm complaining.
-
I vote "yes".

Brendan sat down and got interviewed in 1997. Steve went on Letterman in 1998, sat down and was interviewed. Steve went on Regis in 2002 (I believe), sat down and was interviewed. Why couldn't these two be afforded the same courtesy? Even if it was for 5 minutes, it would have been better than seeing them in some awkward sketch singing and dancing.

Hey, one of my hometown's hockey teams finally won something! It's better than nothing.

Higher All Time Ranking: Yzerman or Lidstrom?
Electrophile replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
My post was referring to the all-time ranking. I think if Nick can rack up a few more accolades in his already trophy-laden career, he could seriously challenge Steve on the Red Wings all-time list. -
Lidstrom and Osgood, do they get their numbers retired?
Electrophile replied to SFwingsfan's topic in General
Nick: Is this even a question? If they DON'T retire his number within 30 seconds of his announcing his retirement, I will go to Detroit and bitchslap someone. Ozzie: If he can break Sawchuk's records and make the HOF (which I think he will do anyway), then absolutely. It would be a damn shame if the winningest goalie in Red Wings history didn't have his number retired. I understand that to get your number raised to the rafters at the Joe, you need to be above and beyond players on any other team, but what Ozzie has quietly done in his tenure here should not go unnoticed by anyone. -
I won't be watching this. They didn't even get to sit on the couch? Hell, Shanny got to sit on the couch in '97.

Higher All Time Ranking: Yzerman or Lidstrom?
Electrophile replied to GMRwings1983's topic in General
I love Steve, as much as anyone here. I remember the "Dead Things" era and how he was the only thing on that team worth watching (at least, he was in my mind). When he retired, I cried. He was the first hockey player I grew up idolizing and watching on TV and religiously checking his stats in the paper. That being said, if you at the end of Nick's career, look at where he stands amongst all other defensemen and where Steve stands amongst all other forwards, Nick will be ranked higher. RIGHT NOW, Nick is being called one of the greatest to ever play this game at that position. Imagine what will be said when he hangs up his skates. First European to win the Norris Trophy, first European to win the Conn Smythe, first European born/trained captain to lead a team to the Stanley Cup.....this makes him an absolute no-brainer. Nick will more than likely go down as the one of the Top 10-15 greatest hockey players EVER at any position. Maybe higher if we win a couple more Stanley Cups and he wins a few more Norris Trophies. Steve Yzerman was a great hockey player. An amazing hockey player. But no where near the caliber of player that Nick is. -
Red Wings and Babcock agree to three year contract

Great to hear. He deserves it. -
I love this guy.
