When both of their respective contracts are up in 5 years, that would be a good time to assess whether what Steve has done in Tampa would warrant the offering of a contract here for him to take over as GM. Right now, I want Holland. The reason being, Steve has no success AS A GM with the Red Wings, whereas Kenny has loads. Success as a player doesn't automatically mean success as coach/GM/owner/fill-in-the-blank. Obviously, Steve has had a very successful first season in Tampa thus far, which bodes well for him if the time were to ever come when Holland is no longer GM and we're looking for one. Someone with ties to the team and the community who has been able to hack it in that job would be someone you'd want to hire quickly. Of course, you run the risk of Tampa wanting to lock him up into a longer deal when this five-year contract is up, but I'd rather not think about that as a possibility. For the future.....I'd love to see Steve Yzerman running this team in one way or another. He's a Red Wing. He was meant to be in this city, with these fans, with that team. I consider him to be on loan to Florida right now.

Jaromir Jagr would be an AMAZING addition to the Detroit Red Wings. If this were 1992.
-
Where's the option to nuke the series from orbit? It's the only way to be sure.
-
Go, go Incredible Yzerbolts! Kick some ass!
-
If it was possible for me to care less about this series than I already do, I would.
-
I really and truly don't know. I want to say no, that he'll come back for at least one more year, but then you get to thinking about just how many "one more year"s he has left in the tank. Much like when we were having the same discussion about if Steve would retire.....I'd rather not think about it. Yes, he's clearly overstayed his welcome. What a bum. I swear, some people.

A bandwagon fan is a fan who only likes the team when they are winning and then "jumps off the bandwagon" when they start losing. What does that have to do with where you were born? I was born and raised in Chicago and live in North Carolina now, but have been a Red Wings fan for nearly 20 years. I'm a bandwagon fan even though I've never stopped rooting for them, even though we've been bounced out of the playoffs several times or lost the Stanley Cup a couple times? A bandwagon fan is NOT just a fan who isn't from that particular city/state. You're painting too many people with the same brush.

28 is way, way, way too young to kick off. What a loss. My condolences.
-
You are stunningly and embarrassingly full of s***. Have a nice evening.
-
BTW, is Yzerbolts not the greatest nickname for a team you've ever heard?
-
So if you're a Red Wings fan and you're not from Detroit, no matter how long you've been a fan, you're a bandwagoner? There's a ton of bandwagon fans here then, because we literally have fans who are from all over the world -- Australia, England, Finland, Sweden, Canada, nearly all 50 states, I think we might even have a couple fans in Mexico, too. Well damn. I guess we all suck, then. Thanks for pointing it out for us, whatever would we do without you?

Rule 1: Never congratulate the team that beat you, whether it look them 4 games or 7. They beat you, they didn't graduate summa cum laude from Harvard. Rule 2: Never hope for them to continue winning now that they've eliminated you. That would be like asking an ex-girlfriend/boyfriend to send you tapes of them ******* their newest partner while you're still single on the couch eating Haagen-Daaz by the quart. Rule 3: Don't post that tripe here right after we lose a hard-fought series where we came back from the brink of being swept.
-
Yes. The only way I wouldn't be would if the Red Wings were still in the playoffs, because I don't root for any team that could beat us in said playoffs. Since that's unfortunately not a consideration anymore, I would love it if Tampa Bay won it all this year. Steve deserves it.
-
The Wings fought hard, there's no denying that. We could have easily been swept, so the fact we forced a 7th game should be commended. Now, let's all root for the Incredible Yzerbolts to win it all, so we can see Steve hoist the Cup one more time.
-
Time to win.
-
God, some of you people suck. Don't you get the point of this thread?
-
We're going to lose so bad tonight, Steve is going to demand we un-retire his number and give it to San Jose to retire.
-
When this series is over, and by that I mean when the Sharks totally annihilate and destroy us, we can all look back and be grateful we lost to a team as storied and legendary as San Jose.
-
That quote from TSN is farkin' hilarious. So the Sharks expected to play a 7th game after going up in the series 3-0? That doesn't belie a lot of confidence in their abilities if they thought any lead they took over the Wings could evaporate quickly. I could never imagine anyone associated with the Red Wings saying something that stupid.
-
Win. Just ******* win. Don't wait until the 3rd period to do it either, please.
-
Just for this post, we're actually going to lose. Good going.
-
I don't give two figs and a half what people from some other fan base think of me, or think of anyone else who roots for the Red Wings. I don't. So they can think we're all "whiny little *******." That's their problem, not mine. If you don't like the way the modmins here run the site re: what people are allowed to say about the Red Wings, please feel free to contact a moderator or Matt himself and complain. However leave the rest of us out of it.

Knock it off already. You're not the authority on what does or does not constitute a fan, the same as no one else here is. Some fans are more pessimistic, some fans are more optimistic. We're all still fans, and nothing you say is going to change that. This armchair psychoanalysis has to stop.
-
Where the hell was this Red Wings team for the first three games? This is the kind of hockey we know they can play. 60 more minutes.
-
The Sharks will utterly humiliate us. We will lose so bad, everyone will get the words "San Jose's *****" tattooed on their foreheads, and our logo will be changed to a wheel being eaten by a shark wearing a crown.
