NHL could lose Air Canada sponsorship over headshots
Electrophile replied to sixer's topic in General
I don't know and frankly, I don't care. If you're about to go into some kooky conspiracy theory spiel about how fluoridated water causes insanity or something, spare the rest of us the trip. -

Bettman has balls? -
IANAL, but murder requires malice aforethought, and the first scenario you described would be manslaughter. The second WOULD be murder, because of the word "intentionally." That would imply malice aforethought. To answer your question, the two cases are not identical. If you get into a fight with someone, and as a result of that fight they die, you could be charged with voluntary manslaughter in that your actions led to their death, but you didn't intend for that to happen. There was no premeditation to kill that person. To bring it back to this topic, it absolutely matters if something is intentional or not.

You do know why water is fluoridated in the first place, right? I don't think the prevention of tooth decay is involved in this. -
Nicklas Lidstrom likely will be Red Wing next season, too
Electrophile replied to HankthaTank's topic in General
For serious? If there's anyone on this team who's earned the right to get paid whatever they ask for, it's Nick Lidstrom. The man has taken one paycut after the other to stay a Red Wing, with everyone knowing if he played on some other team, he'd probably get 2-3x that amount. He wants to play here, so he takes less than he deserves and especially less than he's earned. llitch should just hand him a blank check and tell him to fill in the appropriate numbers. -
No, no it's not the end. Thank you for your concern, though.

This could have huge ramifications for the NHL if Air Canada indeed goes through with this. I'm of two opinions: One, I think headshots need to seriously be addressed in this sport, and the fact that to date it really hasn't, frankly pisses me off. Two, I think Air Canada is adopting a wee bit of a spoiled brat attitude, and while their motivation for doing this might be 100% genuine, the way they've gone about doing it is very juvenile. There's far more professional ways to tell someone that you're on the verge of pulling their sponsorship. Since all Gary Bettman seems to give a damn about is the bottom line, this might actually get him off his tuchus and doing something. -

I am reminded of something that was said about George Washington when he chose to leave the presidency after serving two terms -- "Part of grace is knowing when to leave." Nick doesn't strike me as the sort of person who would stick around long past his shelf life just to say that he was still playing. He's very much cut from the same cloth that Steve was, and Steve knew when it was time to step down, and he did. -
Just kidding. Relax people. Some of you need to take a few steps back and also take a deep breath. The Wings have weak spots yes, but when they pull their heads from their asses, they can more than be overcome. So their problems at the moment are problems they have total control over. It's not something that's in everyone else's hands, it's something that's in our hands. We've done it once, we can do it again.

There's embarrassing, there's stupefying, there's humiliating, and then there's this. Normally I'm never happy to miss a game, no matter what, but I'm glad I missed this s***.

Steve's wife and daughters still live in Michigan. He commutes back and forth when he can.

Eddie Bo? Gas up the General Lee, the Duke boys ride again! That wasn't Hank's wedding. Everyone at the wedding wore traditional formal wear. The black and white striped old-timey bathing costumes (that's what they were called in those days) were a traditional outfit you wear when you go to this resort that's near Emma's hometown. I think it's a hot springs-type thing. It's not like they wore them in the church.
-
I'm glad you've decided, but the organization has pretty much already decided, and it's Hank's gig to lose. That's not a knock against Pavs at all; he's an amazing player, a tremendous presence, and I feel a legend in the making.

Won't be able to watch/follow this, game starts past my bedtime. Here's hoping for a Wings victory regardless.
-
Can we win please? Awesome.
-
Go Wings. Don't lose, win. Score lots of goals, give up few. *insert overplayed, hackneyed cliche here*
-
Hawks vs. Pens is like having the choice between electrocution or lethal injection. Both are gonna suck, but one is gonna suck less than the other. Lesser of two evils, if you will.

Danny! :siren:

We're winning already? Who are these people and what have they done with the Detroit Red Wings?
-
Please no Pittsburgh. I'm sick to ******* death of the Penguins.
-
Detroit will get another Winter Classic when it changes its name to Pittsburgh.
-
That isn't new, that's the same as the commercial we've all seen.
-
Just win again. Keep doing that thing where we have more goals than the other team. It seems to work.

I wish there was a shot of Steve in one of the luxury boxes watching that. I hoped he enjoyed it as much as the Wings fans did. I just think it's awesome the guy twirled it over his head. Al's heir apparent, maybe? I do agree that the throwing of the 'pi should not happen outside of the playoffs, but considering our connection to the Lightning, an exception could be made this one time.

I'm actually kind of annoyed I missed this game, but I'm still happy to see the Wings managed to win, and win big. I'm sure a small part of it was probably strange for Steve, but it's just business, and no matter where he ends up, Detroit will always be home.
