Blackhawks doing their best to embrace change
Electrophile replied to redwingmachine's topic in General
I know that the situations are a bit different and the Hawks had to make room because of the cap......but this reminds me of the way Jerry Krauss and Jerry Reinsdorf basically destroyed the Bulls after their last championship by literally letting everyone walk. They could have won at least one more. -
No offense intended to Steve or any of his staff......but the Wings are perennial contenders. I'd be safe in saying that the Wings will win a Cup again before the Lightning will.

These parents are numbskulls. I played sports when I was in school, so did my sister, so did my parents. I got cut from my high school volleyball team because my overhand serve wasn't as strong as my underhand. Did I call my parents crying about it? No. Did they sue the school for cutting me from the team? No. Life sucks, wear a helmet. These parents who mollycoddle their kids and treat them like precious widdle snowflakes who never do anything wrong and are always right are pains in the ass. These are the same kids who will then grow up to be the idiots in line in front of you at the Starbucks who don't know the difference between an iced drink and a blended drink. And then wait until they're at the counter to ask the barista what the difference is about 100 times.

Absolutely. Right after Steve comes out of retirement and slaps the Winged Wheel back on. It'll be any day now.

Apparently we took that statement two different ways. You think he meant it because the Wings have been successful and that's why he's a fan.....I took it to mean we're the best team in hockey in toto, taking everything into consideration: success, players, management, fans, history, the whole nine yards. I don't see how that's bandwagonish.
-
Why am I a fan? Well, initially I started rooting for the Red Wings to piss my dad off since he's die-hard Blackhawks fan #1, as most of you are probably by now well aware. My rooting for his most hated rival certainly made him spit nails and it was funny watching him get pissed when the two teams would play each other and I'd cheer every Detroit goal. However much to his consternation, it was not just a phase. I actually started enjoying watching them and found myself seeking out info about the team and the players and making myself move from "casual fan" to "hardcore fan". Now, it's Wings or bust. What would make me stop watching them? I don't know. Probably if management drove the team into the ground and sabotaged any chances the team would have to be successful. I'm not talking about just plain bad seasons, we've all sat through a few of those. I'm talking about a concerted effort on the part of all involved to make the team into the laughingstock of the NHL. Knowing what we know about the history and legacy of the team, seeing them have to go through something like that because of an incompetent front office would probably be too much to take.

I think that's pretty much the thread right there, don't you think?

Lebron, D Wade and Chris Bosh going to the Wings?
Electrophile replied to JoeWilk's topic in Other Sports
LOL. I don't even watch basketball, I just threw out a name I heard on TV. -

Red Wings Opening Negotiations to Extend Babcock's Contract

I love Babs, so this is good news. Hope to see him here for quite a few more years. -
Blackhawks playing Wings for banner raising game
Electrophile replied to HockeyTownHouligan's topic in General
They didn't beat us to get there. It's just another game as far as the Red Wings are concerned. Our job is to win, and hopefully we will. Let them raise their banner -- they earned it. If we win it this upcoming season, return the favor and have the Hawks come to town for that. -
Bettman says solving hits to the head will take time
Electrophile replied to CenterIce's topic in General
Really? If the league says "hits to the head are outlawed" and you hit someone in the head and they as a result of that hit, are gone for the year......so are you. Sorry. This parsing and semantics about the angle of the head from the shoulder, the temperature of the ice upon impact, what degree give did the boards expand.....it's piddling. If you know that hitting someone in the head, whether with your stick or your body is against the rules of the NHL and you do it anyway......you're done for however long the person you injured is out. If that's 2 games, it's 2 games. If it's a month, it's a month. Blatant disregard for the rules and by extension the safety of everyone playing the game should not be tolerated. Hockey is already a very physical, combative sport......making it worse by letting head shots go unpunished is ridiculous. I'm not talking about accidental contact where you get tripped or someone hits you and then you fall into someone else. I'm talking about direct contact to another player's head, in complete knowledge of where your body and/or stick is going. THAT s*** has got to stop. And if you don't think it does, let someone nearly break Pavs' neck.....and then we'll see where everyone stands. -

uk_redwing It's okay......I feel your pain sometimes. Take a deep breath, though. You're amongst friends. -
NHL Awards Show sounds like it is going to be horrible
Electrophile replied to CenterIce's topic in General
You're only a hater if the person you're hating on inspires jealousy or envy in you. I'm neither jealous nor envious of Pamela Anderson. Maybe other women are and that's cool -- but not me. Anyone who has willingly had sex with Tommy Lee is not someone I aspire to emulate. -

Pam Anderson may be from Vancouver, but she's not really Canadian anymore, since 99% of her body is plastic she got here in the States. I don't even think she's biodegradable anymore. That being said, the show sounds stupid. -
You know, you can install AdBlock Plus but still allow ads here on this site to help Matt out. It's not an either/or thing. That's what I do. So suck it up and deal with it here.

The forums look fantastic, Matt. Great job!!

There are times when I think it would be cool if some of the Wings read this board......then there's other times when I'm glad they don't. I mean, half of them would hang themselves if they read what some people here have to say about them. Just sad.

"Detroit sucks" chant at Cup celebration?
Electrophile replied to Octopus's Garden's topic in General
You've yet to give me a reason why any of us are supposed to care what Blackhawks fans were chanting at their parade. I'm being dead serious. Why is there a thread about this, why are people pissed off by it, why should people care. Help me out. I wasn't aware that as a Red Wings fan, I was supposed to give a s*** about what they said. -
Crocs are great at the beach -- I can't walk in the sand barefoot because it's too hot and god only knows what you might step on or in. Other than the beach though, I wouldn't be caught dead wearing those things.

"Detroit sucks" chant at Cup celebration?
Electrophile replied to Octopus's Garden's topic in General
Who cares? Seriously. Who cares? They won, they can chant/sing/say whatever the hell they want. To the victor go the spoils. Just like if we win the Cup next season, our fans can chant/sing/say whatever the hell THEY want. I've never seen a group of people more preoccupied with the goings-on of some other team's fan base than this one. Yeesh. -
That was nice to see. I can't have any hate for Scotty.

My dad is the happiest man in North Carolina right now. Holy crap. He's sobbing on the front porch. He's going to make me cry. YAY DAD! :siren:

Our championship in '97 came on my birthday. I remember sitting there listening to the Detroit radio station as it was a very clear night in Chicago and I could pick it up. I put a blank cassette tape in there and managed to record locker room interviews from Darren, Kris and Steve. It was awesome.

Ah, I remember being able to chant a year at an opposition team to shut them up whenever they started acting cocky. Those were the days.
