I've been horribly ill the last 3 days, and this certainly doesn't make me feel any better. Allow me to say......f***.
-
Ummm, you are aware that the Sharks got swept and thus are no longer in the playoffs, right?
-
What a ridiculous thing to say. I want the Hawks to win because I want it for my dad, not for myself. My dad doesn't have much to be happy about any more, so the little things matter to ME. If that means hoping the Hawks win so he has something to smile about, then so be it. I'm certainly not going to let some miscreants on a message board tell me I'm less of a fan or not even a fan, because I want a little happiness for someone who means a lot to me. Get the hell out of here with that nonsense.

In the two years I've been here, there's been maybe half a dozen threads about it and inevitably whenever his name comes up in any other thread, discussion turns to it. Just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it's never been here, just so you know.

Speak for yourself. I've been on the record here more than once stating Heatley should still be prison.

Pronger is an epic ****** and he out-douches all the douches on the Hawks, so the Hawks must win. The last time the Hawks won the Cup, my dad was 12. He's overdue.

My dad just did a cartwheel in our front yard!!

My dad is about thisclose to flipping out right about now. Can't remember the last time I saw his this excited!
-
If it's not Pittsburgh, I'll watch. The only way I'll watch a Penguins game is if their opponent is the Wings, or their opponent is about to knock them out of the playoffs. That's it. Anything would be preferable to a Crosby slurp job.

My dad is already talking about meeting up with some friends and going to a SCF game if the Hawks make it. One of his buddies has season tix.

I don't know anyone who is a bigger hockey fan than my father. He's the reason I watch the sport. So yeah, you're wrong. My dad didn't start getting into college football until we moved to the south -- it's a religion down here. He doesn't have a "team" per se, since he didn't go to college and neither of the schools that my sister or I went to, have football teams. He just watches whatever bowl games are on. He hates Gary Bettman, hates Sidney Crosby and refuses to watch anything that panders to him -- and that will include next year's Random Outdoor Hockey Game. If Pittsburgh wasn't playing in the Random Outdoor Hockey Game next year, he would be watching it rather than bowl games.

Sorry Teddy boy, I don't believe you. It's easier for people to get into basketball over hockey because basketball is easier, cheaper and you can play nearly anywhere. So the NBA is more likely to pull in casual fans/viewers/ticket buyers. Hockey is a niche sport. It has hard to understand rules for the casual viewer. What's the difference between icing and offsides? What's the difference between cross-checking and boarding? How do they know where to have the faceoffs after every whistle? What's the "intent to blow" rule? Basketball is easy to figure out, even for a child. You run down the court with the ball, making sure not to double-dribble or travel. You shoot the ball. It bounces off, someone gets it, that's a rebound. It goes in, it's a 2-pointer or a 3-pointer, depending where you're standing. You shoot the ball and someone hits you, it's a foul. Jump ball is exactly what it sounds like. You get a certain number of fouls in a game, you're tossed. So tell me some more how the NHL is doing better than the NBA, Mr. Leonsis.

Bettman is so clueless it's sad. I asked my dad, who is a MASSIVE hockey fan, if he'd watch the Winter Classic next year, even though his Blackhawks aren't playing. His answer? "Hell no, I'm watching bowl games." This is someone who has been a die-hard hockey fan since 1959. Nineteen fifty-freakin'-nine.
-
I want them to do well for my dad. Otherwise, I really wouldn't care what they were doing.
-
When I hear "Winter Classic", I think a "classic" hockey game. When I think of a "classic" hockey game, Pittsburgh and Washington do not come to mind. One of the Original 6 teams do, however. So maybe if Bettman doesn't want the game to be "classic" in any sense of the word, the name of the game should be changed to "Random Outdoor Hockey Game 2010" and then move on. Because there's nothing classic about the Penguins and the Capitals, the same as if it was the Thrashers and the Hurricanes. BTW, if they really want to call it the Winter "Classic", make the players skate without helmets, make the goalie play without a mask and force everyone to play with wooden sticks. Take it old-school. Retro uniforms, retro rules. THAT I'd watch.

My dad certainly has been enjoying the WCF so far -- much better than last year. LOL I haven't seen him this excited about Blackhawks hockey since Eddie the Eagle was in goal.

It's funny, all the things I've heard people say about Hawks fans.......I've heard people say about us. I grew up surrounded by Blackhawks fans and while no doubt there are assholes amongst them, I personally don't know any. I just know the kind of people who root for the Hawks the way we root for the Wings. And the Hossa hate is hysterical.

Sidney Crosby - The most hated player in the NHL
Electrophile replied to stevkrause's topic in General
If the league was REALLY smart, they'd market young, exciting players from the United States. If Bettman was really interested in raising the sport's profile here, that's what he'd do. Of course he's not smart, so he's doing the exact opposite. My personal feelings about Crosby aside, if the league wants to make inroads with American hockey fans, they need to get people interested in guys that from the United States. Crosby isn't even the whole of Canada, so why should he be the whole of the league? -
Every time I see "**** McGee", I think of that line in Anchorman. "I'm Veronica Corningstone, **** McGee is on assignment."
-
Hey, maybe when his hockey career is over, he can play baseball for the Tigers. Looks like he's got a decent arm.
-
Chicago, honestly. I want an Original 6 match-up in the SCF. Also, my dad is a die-hard Hawks fan and he hasn't seen his team in the SCF since 1992. My team was there in 1995, 1997, 1998, 2002, 2008 and 2009. It would make him so deliriously happy, and after everything he's been through the last year, he deserves it. So yeah, go Hawks.
-
Whew. Thought we'd lose him there for a second. I know he should do what's best for him, but selfishly I want him to stay with the Wings.
-
LOL. This was supposed to be insulting? My cousin's 5 year old daughter could come up with something better than that. Try harder next time. Or better yet, since you seem to think this site is beneath you, just don't bother posting here anymore.

Awww, that's cute. You think you're better than us.
