I am definitely NOT excusing Varlamov if he actually did beat and kidnap his girl, but from the one story I have encountered first hand and others I have heard about over the years, most of these "kidnapping and assault" charges the cops conjure up are BS and not at all what the name of the charges would have you think. The plural of anecdote is not data. What happened to your friend is an absolute miscarriage of justice, but don't kid yourself into believing that what happened to him is the norm across the country, because it's not.

The most annoying thing about going to a hockey game? Drunks. I get that people will have a beer or two during the game, and those aren't the people I'm talking about anyway. I'm talking about the people who get absolutely wasted, then spend the entirety of the game screaming in the side of your head, flailing around like lunatics, and generally acting like assholes. I've gone to several Hurricanes games with my sister and her boyfriend, and I'd say 2/3 of the time, all three of us had to deal with drunken fans causing us to not enjoy the game to the level that we otherwise would have.
Look, if you can't go to a sporting event without getting completely sh*tfaced, stay home, watch the game on TV or your computer. Save the money and the rest of us the indignity of having to listen to you (and smell you).

Worst Avs-player-on-Wings-player hit since the Laperierre-on-Lidstrom hit in '08.
I suppose it could only be coincidence that this hit happened in Patrick Roy's first game coaching against the Red Wings... But that's an awfully big coincidence...
Well, if anyone thinks it's a coincidence, I've got a lovely oceanfront home in Kansas to sell them. It's a steal!

That hit on Kronwall was very 90s-era Avs. Someone should inform Patrick Roy the Douchebag King that the 90s are over, and that Claude Lemieux isn't their cheapshotting "enforcer" anymore.
Man, I've hated that turd for a long, long time.

Stevie Y can still not sign enforcers and build a soft boring to watch team, so can Rutherford and the other soccer on ice supporting coaches GMs but who the heck they think they are in order to decide how others should be building their teams? I hate to admit it but the Leafs with guys like Orr Mclaren and Frazer are a damn exciting team to watch, even if they lose. Someone already mentioned it, I'd rather watch Leafs versus Habs compared to Detroitredwings against some boring to watch team such as the Rutherford built Hurricanes. When this team was the class of the NHL guys like Koccur, Downie and McCarty also were part of the great hype about this team and now? Skill is diminishing, hits are barely seen and young players have to go through hell in order to get the jobs from long over the hill veterans and yet the anti fighting crowd is still questioning why the interest of fans is going down and the Joe isn't as packed as it used to be? A guy like Downie would have smashed Weber's ugly face through the glass after the Zetterberg incident instead of just getting fined 2,5...
How about because Detroit financially is in dire straits, and fans don't have the money to spend on tickets, parking, and food. Did that ever cross your mind? The fact Joe Louis isn't packed to the rafters has little to do with the "anti-fighting" crowd, or because we don't have a bunch of players on the ice whose sole purpose is braining other players.
This isn't an us vs. them argument.

It is just a matter of time before Bettman and company has ruined the game of hockey completely. They will not stop until hockey looks like figureskating.
Oh, knock it off with the useless hyperbole, would you? If fighting ever disappeared from the game entirely, hockey would not look like figure skating, not even close. The only thing the two activities have in common is they take place on skates. That's it.

We can't win if we don't score goals. So, how about we do that instead of whatever it is we've been doing all night?

Come on guys, let's pull our heads out of our ascots and get some isht together. We can beat Carolina, as crazy as that is to believe.

I'm listening to Pink Floyd this evening, so hopefully that provides the Wings that little extra bit of oomph they need to win the game. Hopefully.

I'm with him, and I can accept that 95% of fans (or more) think that view is blasphemy and fighting is an essential part of the game. I disagree. I think the vast majority of fights in today's league do nothing to influence the game one way or another, have little/no motive behind them, and are entirely unnecessary. In short I think its a waste of time. Granted, there are fights that mean something; the battles the Wings had against the Avs meant something, and if the bad blood is there in high enough concentrations, I don't think even a game misconduct will prevent two players or teams from fighting. I do think game misconducts will remove the fluff from the ice, and likely remove goons who can't actually play hockey from the game as well, and I am for that. I realize this is a radical view and one that is drastically different from the philosophy that this league developed within over the past 50 years. I just think it is loony to place an event in a game that contributes very little to the overall team goal and has very little actual value over the well-being of an individual.
Sorry LGW for letting you down
I totally and wholeheartedly agree with you. Like you said, I understand that other people like it and enjoy it, but if it were removed from the game entirely.....wouldn't bother me none. Being able to land punches while standing on skates isn't a skill one needs to be successful at hockey, and is better suited to a new hybrid sport called "ice boxing." I'd rather watch some Datsyukian dekes than see two grown men pummel the sh*t out of each other at center ice.
I don't really care if that opinion sets me apart from other fans here; I'm not a Red Wings/general hockey fan in order to run with the herd. Sometimes I agree with the consensus, but this time I don't. Whether fighting stays or is legislated out completely, I'm still going to watch and root for the Wings, so it won't matter much to that end.

A win is always better than a loss, even if it's an ugly win.

I'd really love it if we could oh I don't know, score another goal and pad the lead a bit. I know that's fancy, edumacated thinkin' there, but I reckon it'll work.

Without Pavel Datsyuk, our team is totally and utterly boned.

While I'm glad we're getting off good shots and most importantly, winning the game at the moment, we're taking too many stupid penalties.

Thanks for almost making me snarf some of The Macallan.
My apologies.

Penalty shot! Make it count.

Jimmy Howard has been outstanding tonight.

Another PP for the Sabres. We're getting sloppy. KNOCK IT OFF. That was a stupid penalty to take, Hank.

Ted Lindsay in the house!
