I agree with some of the above recommendations. "What It Means to Be a Red Wing" and "Blood Fued" are great reads.

I remember reading somewhere last year that Ozzie chooses his plain red one. He wants to just be "one of the team", and not to stand out in any special way. I thought that was pretty cool, and humble, of him. Go Ozzie!

My sister and I found this site in April. We both checked it out daily before I finally signed up. It amped up our love for the Red Wings to Obsession level. Hours were spent reading everything. When I was on vacation (starting June 4th- ugh), I went through withdrawals until I was able to find an internet cafe. I could only get a quick fix, but it was helpful. Matt, thanks so much for running all this! I don't post much, but I really enjoy reading and learning more every day!

My sister found this book and neither of us could put it down once we started reading. It chronicles the history of the Red Wings by decade. Players of the different eras (as well as others involved in the franchise's history) told their personal stories. They shared the joy and heartbreak of being on the team during the winning and losing years. The pride in playing for an Original Six team is clear in what they said. I would highly recommend this book. Not only did it increase my knowledge of some of the old-time players, but it also increased my pride in the Detroit Red Wings. You truly get a deeper understanding of what it means to be a Red Wing.

Good morning. I am glad this thread is here also. Thanks, Duck Guy. Look: we lost 2 to Nashville, then won. We breezed through the Avs, unexpectedly. Then, we lost 2 to Dallas, but still won. We didn't really expect to win this in 4 or really even possibly 5. Now we've lost 2 games, BUT, we can still come back and win. Keep believing! GO WINGS!!!

I know you guys all sound pumped about this idea, but here is why I hope this DOESN'T happen. 1. This could be THE NIGHT for the RED WINGS to celebrate coming out on top. Even though we may dislike Bettman, we need to leave the spotlight on the PLAYERS, not selfishly make this about us and our gripes. 2. The players have been working hard not to fight back on dirty hits. They have shown incredible self-discipline to stay above it all. Why should we lower ourselves to such a level as to possibly confirm in the minds of the rest of the nation that Red Wing fans are "classless"? We should be above this, too. 3. Let's keep the media focus on what the RED WINGS have done right, rather than letting them focus on what the fans have done wrong. GO WINGS!

I've only been a member here for a month now, so earlier today I decided to randomly flip through some of the old forum pages to see what had been posted in the past. Interestingly enough, I found a thread about McCarty that was from 2007. You guys were discussing his last games and how sad it was that he was struggling and hardly getting any ice time. More than one person said he was "still a Wing" to them, and how great it would be to see him come back. Even if he was playing for another team, someone thought he would for sure get a standing ovation at The Joe. Now a year later, we do have him back! And he did get his standing ovation! And he is again a Wing- home where he belongs...

Let's go boys! Bring the Cup home!

I really enjoyed reading the article. Once all this is over, and we will have time for reading things other than articles and blogs on the Wings, I would recommend another good read: What It Means To Be a Red Wing. This is a great book that chronicles the team's history from the 40's to the recent years. Looking forward to the game in a few hours! Go Wings!!!

Whoever you get, it should be the red jersey. That way when you go to a game in another city, you clearly stand out. I proudly wear my red "Yzerman" to the Pepsi Center whenever the Wings play the Avs.
