Firstly, Osgood is not to blame. Did a great job given how many shots were against him and how much play was in our zone in the 3rd period. The defense was the problem, but only really in the 3rd after the Penguins fightback had begun. What I'm pissed at are the two calls on (I think) Franzen then Filpula for the 5-3. That's where the game turned. To say the calls were soft is a gross understatement!! Games with 2 solid teams like tonight are won and lost on turning points like that. The officials f#cked those two calls up good and proper! And of course, they scored on the 5-3 and straight after the expiration of their powerplay. Perhaps Crosby's bottom lip got too big and it all came out with his "chat" with the linesman in the 2nd Intermission....

I was all for McCarty coming back for the play-offs last year, however he's had enough of a chance and isn't making the impact in the team we hoped he might. Get Downey back in and send down to GR McCarty. I'm sure he'll be a decent trade for some of the improving teams elsewhere come the next trading window.

I'm a little concerned over the whole defense to be honest. Conceding way too many goals, and they are certainly not all the goalie's fault. However, at the moment our offense is sh*t hot which is carrying us. The defense (inc. goalies) needs to get their act together and I think they will...

Is 4 games and only 1 week into the season a realistic time to judge a players worth? Absolutely not, it's a ridiculous question. Even in other sports such as football, basketball, baseball or soccer its too short a time to judge a player. Take Cabrera for the Tigers this last season. Yes I know the team sucked as a whole for the vast majority of the regular season, but Cabrera's numbers took a while to look decent, at least 15 to 20 games. It takes the best players longer to realize their potential in a new team. Also, just look at his numbers..... Form is temporary, class is permanent! Once Hossa gets his first RW goal, the flood gates will open.... as the guy from Men's warehouse says... "I guarantee it!" (in a fake gruff and husky voice).

Time to break the mold with my original insight.... With single digits for turnovers, would have been game won! Turnovers cost us the game.

I think it's a good thing but not in live play. I haven't been watching hockey long enough to remember how they did it back in the 90's, but have seen it in soccer. They used to (but dont anymore) use it for speed of a shot on goal, trajectory, tracing the ball path line into the goal which showed swerve, deflections and pin-point whether it crossed the line. I think the same information applied to hockey using this technology would make the intermissions more enjoyable!

Very happy with the new contract. Although $3mill may seem a little too much for the first year, I'm sure he could have gone to other teams for more. So this looks like yet another "home-town-discount" which I'm pleased to see.

Hey, With Howard just signing a two way deal (which I believe doens't affect the cap), and Ericcsons $550,000 yr one way deal (as of Detroit News article today) which I assume does affect the cap, where does that leave Filpula? How much room is left in the cap and is he going to take it??? A little worried now.... Sorry if this belongs in another thread - couldn't see one - feel free to move me...

My wife saw Hasek about 6 months ago in a pet store. He was apparently there with his kid(s). I was there too, but was in my usual unobservant state so didn't notice. Got mad at the wife after when she said... "did you see who that was?". I mean, why wait till we've left before telling me... GGGRRRRR

I think he'll wear 93. Franzen will switch to 39 now Hasek's gone. (I think that's right - v. tired at the moment!) It'll be a big game of musical chairs, only with numbers....

I agree with most of what you said. Can't expect them to win everytime they get out on the ice. Sure I was frustrated last night, but it was an exciting game to watch. But, the Pens were desperate and the wings could still have come out on-top if it weren't for some sound goaltending from Fluery (whom I was really starting to doubt) and some good defense at times and the wings shooting wide a little too often. The way I look at it, we handed it to them severely games 1 and 2 on our ice. On their ice for game 3 that had to fight for everything that got and came away with the win by a miniscule margin. Red wings need to address a couple of things... thats all.

Yes, I agree the Crosby coverage is getting a little too much. He's certainly a good player, and seems to handle himself well off the ice at such a young age.... but: As a fan of hockey, I would like to see coverage not only about the red wings, but about the OTHER players on the Penguins team. Malkin and Hossa have had a (very) small amount of coverage, and other than that, apart from a couple of post-game interviews everything is Crosby Crosby Crosby. NBC needs to start providing information on other players on the Penguins team also.... I'd like to know more about them! I'm sure Hockey fans over at Pittsburgh feel the same way too... Would like to know more about our players (and probably theirs too) as it looks like finally we now have a terrific series lining up.

I think game 1 is important if the team playing away from home wins it. Put the home team on the back foot... Not so important for the home team as they're "expected" to win the first in a series at home usually...

Sammy seems to be playing OK (ish) for the most part. He's a middle of the road player who may be a little underperforming at the moment, but then every player in a team is never all playing their best all at the same time. There are several others who are not carrying their usual stats at the moment. Lack of good passing opportunities is probably leading to more shots.

I've watched the last two games, and the highlights several times.... Sure, he made some good saves, but it appears to me in a large percentage of scoring chances: 1. Wings missed the net 2. Dallas blocked a lot of shots 3. Puck hit straight at him with no screen Not trying to take anything away from the guy, but are people making a little too much out of his last couple of performances? Seems to me, the Stars defense, and more frustratingly the wings shooting, contributed more to the last two games lost than Turcos saves. I dont remember many, if any GREAT Turco saves. Anyone feeling the same about this.....

I dunno, it seems like a large traffic cone would have had the same saves percentage as saturday. Wouldnt have got that assist though...

Yeah, I think Turco has some good positives in that game (and deserves credit)... Playing outside the crease, getting assists, and some good positioning, several good (but not fantastic) saves... But under-pressure saves with people crashing the net or screening, no. Snatching the game for Dallas, no. At least not in my (rather novice) opinion...
