Yeah, I don't hear anything about the Wings lack of energy or composure. Doc? Edzo? Pierre? Anyone? -

Yup, GARY Thorne does. He's on MASN. Us Wings fans in Maryland have it pretty good - every Orioles game sounds like a Stanley Cup playoff game! That said, I didn't think Edzo was that bad. Pierre is worse.

Pens just got Abdelkaded. -
Listen all, I'm as upset as anyone concerning how everything went down last night. But the guy made the right call. When the ref can't see the puck he is to blow it dead. Happens a thousand times throughout the course of the season. I know that doesn't make last night's game any easier to swallow; it doesn't. But it was the right call.

That's an amazing thing. Living so close to DC, I never knew that anyone actually "despised" the Capitals. We barely knew that anyone cared. Wow!

So the 2007 Ducks clinch the whole argument? Their Cup had nothing to do with superior defense and goaltending? Come on now, you're smarter than that. As for the Wings, can you demonstrate that the Cup winners in those years were throwing down the gloves at every opportunity? The Devils weren't. The Avs weren't. And the Wings never won a Cup with Probert; and Kocur RARELY fought on the Cup teams he was on. The evidence just isn't there.
-
To steal a concept from economics - why can't we allow the marketplace to dictate fighting? Look at the teams that have been really successful in recent years, including the Wings. Fighting simply isn't a part of their game; ergo, fighting simply isn't a part of a winning hockey team. Nobody can goon their way to the Cup - the 70's Flyers were an aberration, not the rule. When teams finally figure that out, fighting will go down.

Easy on the Southeast - sure, the division is bad, but the Capitals are one of the best teams in hockey, the Panthers seem to have turned it around, and there is still star power in Carolina and Tampa.

Where do you want the next Winter Classic be?
FirstSamuel1745 replied to SouthernWingsFan's topic in General
One of the issues for the Winter Classic going forward is how to get the southern clubs some exposure. It seems pretty obvious that Bruins/Rangers will be next game, but after that, how can the Winter Classic be used to draw attention to the teams from the south? I think they'll have to bring some of them north for games, but who and where? I liked the idea of the Stars playing the Wild in Minnesota. But other than that, there's no real natural rivalries. This will be a challenge in the future, because I think the event will lose steam if its the same teams playing all the time. -
Look, the most important thing concerning his comments is that it takes the Caps-Pens rivalry to a new level. Whether he is right or not (and I'm torn about it personally), the Pens and Caps are developing some bad blood between them. This is a good thing for the NHL - its two biggest stars (Crosby and Ovechkin) on two teams that can't stand one another, with ample support players (Malkin and Semin). This is what the NHL needs right now. Thanks Alex!

St Louis reaction to Palin dropping puck this Friday
FirstSamuel1745 replied to redhot's topic in General
Has anyone considered that this just might be good for the NHL? Considering the state of the game, any exposure is good exposure. Whether Palin is your cup of tea or not, she does present the NHL with an opportunity to showcase itself. Palin puts hockey on the nightly news, which is more than the NHL is doing by itself. There are times when the little silver NHL logo on the neck of the jersey is more important than the big logo on the front of the jersey.... -

The Atlanta Falc- Thrashers' third jerseys unveiled!
FirstSamuel1745 replied to Cern's topic in General
Can you think of another organization in sports that has messed up their jerseys as much as the Thrashers? Between the baby blues with the words down the arm and now this horrendous thing, I can't think of another team that's harder to look at. -
For whoever thinks no one on these boards likes third jerseys, neither of these are too bad....but I don't like the concept of third jerseys anyway.

That's terrible. -
Over on the Pens board, there's a guy who currently lives in Michigan, but is moving to Texas. However, he is a longtime Pens fan. As a going away present, check out what they gave him... http://msgboard.pittsburghpenguins.com/ind...showtopic=24599 Priceless.

That picture officially has me ready to start the 08-09 season. Go Wings.
-
Just messing around - why in the world would I genuinely be happy that a Red Wing didn't win the Cup?
-
My first thought was Uwe Krupp. With that said, here are a few: Maxim Kuznetsov Dimitri Bykov Patrick Boileau Stacey Roest Jesse Wallin and most definitely: Boyd Devereaux

The talk seems to be that this is a straight-up deal; it can't possibly be. It just wouldn't make sense for Florida. There's got to be some high draft picks or some hotshot prospect going to Florida if this deal is going to get done.
