That depends. I'm sure besides handing out the fines that the NHL had a talk with both organizations. Hopefully the fine to Ribeiro and Ott came with a warning to knock off their antics. I look for game three to be tightly called, and that is all to our benefit considering the difference in skill level and the fact it's not us who needs to play dirty to compete.

I sure wish people would be a little more accurate with their statements. Osgood put his stick out and there was basically no chance it was going to do any kind of damage. Hell, Riberio didn't flinch and the stick that Osgood was holding with one hand didn't even twitch. He hit the butt of the stick with his face, hitting the stick from the side like he did it was like contact with any other part. It was such a nothing thing that if not for slow mo instant replay we wouldn't even know about it. Butt-ending a player is what Iginla did to Scheider last year. The two things are a mile apart. If you don't agree with what Osgood did and think the fines to both are a fair thing, fine that's your opinion and you're entitled to it. But please stop calling it a butt-end and making it sound much worse than what it was. On another note, now that the league has decided that two handing people after buzzer is such a minor thing, what do I tell me eight year old son mite hockey player who was watching the game with me? The only good thing about this whole disgusting incident is it could be the start of a good rivalry and hopefully we'll plant these losers in the boards for the 2 remaining games and every time they meet next year too.

I didn't really watch the Stars much until playoff time. Can someone tell me what's up with Mike. Is he hurt or is he just a large step slower than he used to be. Still a good player but I'm not seeing the stud that he used to be in these playoffs.

Amen brother. So many posters on here act like it has to be one or the other. There is no reason why we can't play the skilled game we do and still kick someones ass when they take cheap shots at our stars. You think Gretsky would have the numbers he did if other teams didn't know they were going to be handed their ass if the screwed with him? I'm not saying we should dress some no skilled thug just for dirty play like most teams did in the old days, but we have enough toughness in our roster to do what needs to be done and stop letting them treat us like their little *******. To hell with not retaliating for fear of penalties. It's not like we'd have to go to the box a thousand times. Our opposition would get the message soon enough and the rabbit punches, slashing, and going after our guys after the whistle would mostly be a thing of the past.
-
For the most part, Don Cherry is just an idiot with a runaway mouth but every once in a while he has a moment. "To tell you the truth, I'm not happy when I see a guy get punched in the face and turn away," Cherry said. "... That's not the Red Wings I remember, and that's what I meant." It sounds like some on here should go watch basketball or some other womans sport. This crap about not retaliating so we don't get penalties is just that, crap. The talented play by our guys in recent years is truelly a sight to behold and makes for some exciting games. This does not however mean we should forget what game this is and start letting other teams treat us like their *******. Maybe I misspoke earlier, because even the guys on a basketball team would be kicking someones ass if the other team was throwing punches at them the way Ott and Turco have been this whole series. Remember, this is RED WINGS HOCKEY, and if you have some doubts just ask yourself what the man himself Gordie Howe would do in this situation. I gaurandamteeyou there would have been blood on the ice already.

Where are the rivalries? Playoff hockey is always exciting, but it so much more when you have a good hate going for the other team. Playing a good team like Dallas you want your guys to win but it's not the vein bulging desire to crush them. Sometimes I look at the picture I have on my office wall of Mac and the Turtle and realize how much I miss that kind of intensity in the games. Holding your breath as Sakic and Flopa criss cross coming across your blue line. Watching Flopa with one of his dorky looking butt checks. Wishing someone would push Foote's teeth in for his latest cheap shot. Punishing that whiny bish Patrick Waaaaa, either by running up the score or just him getting his ass kicked by our goalies. Ahhh, the good ol days.
-
The biggest mistake Ozzie made was trying to slow Ribeiro down by sticking his stick out in the way. I'm sure he expected Ribeiro would have to skate around it and therefor slow down his cheap after game shot on our defenseman. What he should have done is put his shoulder into the little punk and knocked him flat on his ass. I don't see Ribeiro getting up and doing anything other than the cheap crap he did because he's probably seen Ozzies fight tapes and the face of the other guy afterwards.

Wings vs Pens COULD be an excellent series. Both high flying talented teams. As long as the officials don't carry them to the cup on their backs like they did the Ducks. Could turn out to be a travesty like the Steelers superbowl win. If Dallas keeps playing garbage hockey like game two, we may just end up with an old fashioned rivalry after all. I almost hope they don't suspend that idiot just because that game would be electric and our guys would be playing with some fire in their bellies.
-
Not a hard choice. If the Mule is ok and comes back to play like he has been noone is even close.
-
Blah, this is hockey and since when do you let crap like this go if the officials don't deal with it. Mac beats the living crap out of him, we snuff their weak ass PP just like we have been, we move on to sweep the series while Ribeiro is busy getting reconstructive surgery on his face. Go ask Gordie if we should just let cooler heads prevail.
-
With mad acting skills like that he should give up hockey and go play soccer.
-
Even if you feel that Osgood dove. The penalty for a dive is a 2:00. He should serve it together with Turco for the trip that wasn't called. Or maybe the slash he gave Zetterberg in the chest. Games over though, so the only thing that can even be looked at is the 2 handed slash after the whistle.
-
They wont discipline Ott of course but it's entirely possible the officials could send him a message next game.
-
So reaching out and tripping our guy onto the back of his head as he goes past the crease isn't cheap?
-
Oh, I agree with you 100%. Suspending either one of them would be retarded. I'm just saying Osgood sticking his stick out in front of Ribeiro is nothing compared to all the garbage going on at the other end all night.
-
Dallas is going to come out flying and checking hard for the first ten minutes. Just need to weather that and then impose our will on them again. Not going to try and predict the score but I'll bet Homer takes a shot to the balls from Turco and that he gets a bulls*** interference call, possibly resulting in a goal being disallowed.

Exactly. Abundance of talent. Total lack of class.

What these d-bags don't understand is that Detroit fans are used to seeing excellence and have a lot higher expectations from their team. Living out here in California I see most of my live games when the Wings come to the Shark Tank. Yes it is a little louder than Detroit but the reasons for it are almost comical. I can't help but laugh when I'm sitting there watching the game and all of a sudden the whole places is up and yelling for apparently no reason. Then I realized they were cheering because one of their guys managed to get across the blue line and still had control of the puck, or someone caught a long pass in stride, their goalie stopped an unscreened shot from 60 feet, or any other little thing that Detroit fans would take for granted. Maybe Detroit fans need a decade or two of mediocrity so that we get excited about every little play. Nah, screw that.
-
Exactly what I've been thinking. With different seeding Nashville could very well still be in it. They would most likely have beat San Jose with a lot less effort. When it's all said and done, the Nashville series will probably be our hardest in the Western Conference. While I'm talking about San Jose why is it that no matter how good their team is, they choke when it comes to the playoffs? I was really hoping they could make it to the WCF so I could go see Detroit play them out here.
-
When I met her my wife was a Pens fan of all things. It's taken me 10 years, and taking her to watch the Wings win in Detroit, Boston, and San Jose, but I've finally changed her evil ways.
-
And if Aliens came from outer space and used their cosmic shrink ray to steal JLA they would have had to postpone the start of the series while they looked for a new place to play. But because neither of these things happened they could have played on Tuesday. In which case I wouldn't have had to wait a whole freakin week for Wings hockey. And worse than me having to wait, they made my wife wait too and she got damn cranky about it.
-
Tired? If the NHL would have started the series on Tuesday like they should have that still wouldn't have been an excuse for a professional team. Instead they pampered their asses and so they had no repercussions for being so weak that they needed 7 periods to finish a game. If they were tired it was because they spent their time chasing a better team around the ice all night. If only Dallas' fans had as much class as their team. I haven't heard any crying from the actual players about being tired. Now if they would just learn what real goaltender interference is so that they would just stop whining about that. Turco better get used to the fact that he is going to be looking at Homer and Mule's asses for 3-4 more games.
-
Turco - 87% Osgood - 95% Goaltending is not so easy against a team that knows how to screen.
