WCF Game 1 GDT: Red Wings 4, Stars 1

Have to disagree here. The Stars couldn't keep up with the Wings early when the Wings were playing hard. They spent their time chasing the Wings around, and that's how you end up with penalties. Late in the game their 5 on 5 looked better, but Detroit was protecting a lead more than they were trying to push. I hope their lack of discipline late in the 3rd carries over into game 2 so that we can punish them on the PP some more.

    Is Sidney Crosby a diver?

Crosby is a hell of an offense player with an unbelievable amount of talent and potential. Now he just needs what Yzerman had to make him a great player, a coach to teach him there is more to the game of hockey than offense. That and someone to teach him some class. He's young, there's still time.

    Marty who?

Yes I'm sure they'll do much better in the second game. It looked like they eventually learned they couldn't play skill vs skill against the Wings and brought out their physical game. Detroit better keep their heads up next game.

We need to get inside Turco's Head

A few points: Seven periods to score 2 goals is a good goalie contest, but not exactly scoring at will. If you think you've faced the best blue line in hockey you are about to have a very rude awakening. 2.5 goals against the Wings won't win the game and our defense is much better than what you've played against so far. Good luck getting that many with the 20 or fewer shots you'll be getting per game. Off the charts? He's been playing pretty damn good I'll grant you that. Maybe with just a little more work he'll be able to get his save % as high as Ozzie's. Turco hasn't had to deal with anything like the screening ability of Franzen and Homer so far in the playoffs. Those stops aren't going to be so easy when the first he sees of them is the redirect 2 feet in front of him. Dats has Turco's number as well. I can't wait for some more highlight reels. I love the fact that the Wings get to play a talented skill team like the Stars in the WCF. I really hope their offense can step it up a little and make some exciting games. If Dallas does find a way to pull off a miracle, at least they're a team I'll be happy to cheer for in the finals.

Burnside breaks down the WCF and picks the Wings in 7

The Stars offense is weak. They managed to score against the Sharks because SJ's forwards played even weaker in their own zone. San Jose is not a hard team to score against and they barely managed to do it. Dallas cannot outscore Franzen, much less the whole Wings team if they only put up a couple goals per game. And it's going to be even harder for them to get those couple goals when they're are only touching the puck for about half the amount of time they did against the Sharks. As far as Ozzie goes, he's a streak player. I'm not an Ozzie lover or hater, I've both cheered and cursed him depending on how he's playing at the time. If he brings his A game he'll make Turco look like he should be in the minors. As weak as Dallas's offense is there's a good chance he'll have a shutout or two. If he doesn't he'll be the bum who's letting in shots from 60 feet and we'll see Dom in net again. The fact that he faces so few shots and still puts up the save % he has so far in the playoffs is incredible. Even facing less shots than Turco he still has a better %. You can say that GAA average doesn't mean much and I would agree with you because Ozzie faces so few shots per game, but to say that the save % doesn't matter is just dishonest or ignorant. The Sharks vs Stars was an interesting series, and Turco was awesome in game six. Unfortunately for the Stars, Turco playing better against the Wings than he has in his career every game of this series is the only chance their team has of even being competitive, much less winning a game. If Turco plays a game like he did in game 6 against SJ, he may stretch this series to five games.
