again, esteef, nobody has advocated more of a penalty. if there was no intent to injure then why didn't roberts hit him in the leg? and just b/c there was no penalty called doesn't mean there shouldn't have been one. The league can fine or suspend players for altercations after reviewing the tape. nobody is saying he can't get hit (checked, leagally in the game) I will take issue when that "hit" is a sucker punch to the head.
-
wouldn't intent to injure equal suspension? circular logic and word games are how you like to debate, I think we've all seen this before on here, the 5 or 8 game suspension was your example of how there shouldn't be a different set of rules for certain players. this was never brought up by anyone. the point is there was no suspension at all, no penalty called. But it was a cheap shot and a direct intent to injure somebody in a specific area of the body they were coming back from injury on. This is clear. The league should've suspended him for his dirty play.
-
nobody in this thread has advocated special treatment for certain players. so "fair game" means you can take mulitple pot shots at somebody's head the game they come back from a concussion? that's not a direct intent to injure?
-
ok Girlfriend, you've obviously never played hockey and I sure wouldn't want you on my team. For such a smartass you sure have a reading comprehension problem. I never said the league should des. certain people for special treatment. There's not a question about 5 or 8 games, there's no suspension. It's a direct intent to injure knowing his history and it's his first game back. Surely you're not that dense. and Kornheiser is a dolt.
-
he's actually a RW fan... I know it's sometimes hard to tell the difference.
-
Kornheiser? that dolt doesn't know a thing about hockey, why do ppl get their hockey news from ESPN? anybody who's had a concussion is at more risk for further problems, that's the nature of concussions. Lindros? You still have yet to answer the jeff boukeboom question? not old enough to remember prob. bruised ribs and head injuries are totally different. It's one thing to get hurt again b/c he got checked , it's an entirely different thing if it comes from a cheapshot to the head. You're talking about somebodies livelyhood and their quality of life yes, Franzens injury makes the head shot worse , why the hell do you think he choose to hit him in the head and not the ribs ? it's alot worse b/c he's coming off a concussion. don't you get that?

we've been around this block before, I dont' see how you can say we don't have any fighters on this team, Drake, McCartney, Chelios like you mention, heck, Roberts isn't that big of a fighter himself so you could extend it to other RW players like even a Helm. I know he and others don't fight much but let's face it, if they were on a .500 team they'd be doing alot more of it. We don't typically fight b/c we don't have to : understood. But what concerns me is the complete and utter cheap shots against a teammate who's had a concussion. I don't want to see his career ruined like Jeff Boukeboom's. Notcie how nobody has taken on that question. The refs and the NHL (Neaderthal Hockey League) clearly aren't goning to do anything about it. energize the pens? we've completely dominated them in every single facet of the game so we should let them cheapshot a guy coming back from a concussion? and for the last time, nobody is talking about a facewash.
-
you interpreted it correctly. There were some people/someone who said they'd have more respect if it was at center ice. Like you said, he's no Grimson.
-
I think he's just regurgitating stuff he heard on TSN and CBC....
-
here's the link on youtube w/o commercials. yeah, he's pretty much an idiot, if a Euro is tough it's b/c he's a cheap shot artist, if he doesn't fight he's soft. xenophobic , old fart
-
nhl.tv and then click on :jump to: at the top for specific team news, most of it should be on there.

wow, I'm amazed at some of the comments I'm reading. what does it matter? He's a 3 time LB finalist, do you really expect his to start throwing haymakers at all? I didn't see Zetterberg doing much. Is it because he's Russian? He's added muscle to his frame, increased his physicality, was our hit leader in game 1, now he's defending his teammates when for so long we've been pushed around in the PO's. And some people are going to sit here and microanylise and ***** because of where and when the linesman may or may not have got involved. Just be glad he's doing something, before he was too soft and didn't score enough (on a RW team that didn't produce much offensively during those years in the PO's anyway) now he's not impressive b/c of when a lineman may have gotten involved or because Roberts may have fallen to the ice b/c he tripped instead of b/c of the punch. geesh, give it a rest and just be thankful he's on our team.
-
we've seen this before, Larionov vs. forsberg, how sweet it is! of course Roberts is much tougher than forsberg and this was the finals but that's the on ly thing that I can remember comes close.
-
nobody's talking about facewashing him, you really don't get it
-
we've been in their heads since game #1 give Thierien some flipping Prozac already... they must have been very overconfident coming into this series, the cup wasn't just magically handed to them
-
I wish guys who go after someone's head when they know they are coming back from concussion like symtems would get suspended. Let's let the skilled guys play the game, any idiot can take a cheapshot. And people wonder why the NHL isn't more popular.
-
anybody got a link to his post game presser, I heard he was whining about the reffing , saying they were moving their feet so they should've got some calls. I can't seem to find this video. thanks
-
you obviously weren't a Wings fan from 1955 till 1997.
-
yes I have read the entire thread I don't think you've read my post. We have augmented our team through trades/free agency (See Maltby, Draper, Shanahan in MY post) So what is your point? We've done it. You need to go back and re-read my post. Don't come on a red wings board and insinuate we bought the cup or haven't singed good players either by drafting or FA. How long has there been a salary cap in the NHL? How many times since then have the Detroit Red Wings won the President's trophy? Please don't insinuate we would be nowhere without any high draft choices, we haven't pick higher than about 28 for as long as I can remember and we're going for 4 cups since 1997. Thanks for playing.
-
please go and do some research on how many original draft choices we've had on our team the last 15 years. After that go and research how many players we've acquired through trades for original draft choices (Maltby from Edm for org. draft choice D. Dan McGillis) and how many players we've acquired for cheap that weren't wanted by other teams (Kris Draper for $1 Winnepeg). Even when we acquired Brendan Shanahan we gave up an original drafted player (Ray Shepard and a draft pick). Then go and research how many other teams could've drafted Lidstrom, Federov, Osgood, McCarty, Slava Kozlov, Niklas Kronvall, Mathieu Dandenault, Yzerman, Zetterburg and Datsyuk among the many others. Hell, we drafted Vladamir Konstantinov in the 11th round, 221st overall, anybody could've had him! Then go talk to a Rangers fan and ask them what are the benefits of having a high payroll when you miss the playoffs. It's not as easy as it seems.

I disagree, why is the NHL the only league where the rules change depending on the time of year and the time of the game? Do they stop calling holding in the NFL in the 4th quarter b/c they don't want to effect the outcome of the game? The thing I really don't understand is why are red wing fans so accepting of clutch and grab hockey in the PO's when a properly called game benefits the Wings? The league has said the games during the PO's should be called the same as the regular season so why is it so accepted when they become lax with the rules? This did happen last year, in fact the Red Wings organization privately told the Ottawa Sens brass that the league was letting alot of stuff go and that they should be prepared for it in the Finals against the Ducks.
-
it's obvious they can't stop us so they start saying his butt's in the crease when his skates clearly aren't. It's just rediculous. and how about eddie olczyk at the end of the game saying '' at the end anything goes" when they showed Homer getting absolutely mauled out there. NHL: Neanderthal Hockey League ... I tell you , I'm so sick of clutch and grab, mauling hockey, let the skilled players play.

what was the first example? I don't remember
