you're kidding right? average defensive player since when? he's always been responsible defensively, even back when everyone was critisizing him early in this decade for "not preforming in the playoffs" if you knew anything about the typical russian (sorry to bring that word up) system you'd know that the center is always responsible for being the first forward back , even when the Wings were playing the left wing lock system (a Czech system) the only line that had the center back first was Igor Larionov's line because he wanted to keep playing like that as he was used to that system and was good at it. nobody sees the ice better than Datsyuk, sorry he's not Swedish but that's just the case.

by the strictest interrpretation of the rules it probably was obstruction but you have to also admit that Crysby did jump at Lilja and embellish. Maybe Crysby has a blow-up doll that looks like Andreas Lilja?

at some point when discussing Mr Bettman we need, as a collective group, ie. hockey fans from North America and beyond, to start talking about the owners of the NHL teams. They too are culpable, for they employ him. If the ownership of the NHL wasn't satisfied with how the game was being run then something would've been done along time ago. It's the NHL owners and Board of Governors as a collective group that are culpable as well.

I think people have learned enough not to critisize Lidstom for anything to avoid a total and outright flaming.

I've played defense all my life, that' s always been part of the job, you go in and get the puck and take the hit if you have to. I don't like it but that's what you have to do. I don't think alot on here have played the game.

this shows it perfectly, instead of just going into the corner and wraping the puck around and us most likely clearing it he stops and lets Roberts get around him and get the puck, he had a head start , there's no reason for him not to get the puck to a teammate. It meant he most likely would've gotten hit but that's the price to pay.

a defenseman's job is to go into the corners and get the puck, sometimes you get hit and he needs to do that. and I could care less about Hal Gill, he's not fit to be a red wing either.

what Lilja should've done was go into the corner and dig the puck out and take the hit, leading to us most likely being able to clear the puck and no goal on the play. instead he played it soft looking to avoid the hit and that was the difference.

a cheap shot is a cheap shot but there is direct intent to injure, why didn't Roberts speer him in the gut? a drive by punch can always result in injury agreed but in the context of the game you know exactly why he (and 2 others) did it.

teams already release faulty reports but if the league wouldn't allow such dirty play to go on there'd be no more of it. there's no "let them determine it on the ice" with the instigator rule. that's why there's all the cheapshots out there now. if roberts sucker punches him again and he has another concussion and is never the same with a shortened career would you still feel the same way? or is that just hockey? the headhunter deserves to be suspended

yeah, I'd love to see him get suspended if he did it to Maltby. I'm sick of the clutch and grab, the neanderthal hockey, get the goons out and let the skilled players do their thing. Call it Euro hockey if you will, but I want to see the skilled players doing their thing. I think that's the way to grow the game, regardless of which network it's on. Open it up as much as possible, when hockey is played with speed and skill it's the best sport in the world. the fairweathers are turned off by the goonery, I'd much rather see two guys fight than all the cheap stuff, there's no honor in it, it takes absolutely no skill to sucker punch, speer, or slash someone.
