    Rafalski's Post Olympic Performance

I think it's just a matter of seeing Rafalski on a team where he is not overshadowed by one of the best Dman of all time. I have been defending him a little here lately and I hope this is a huge confidence builder for him. Here's to making the playoffs!! I love the Olympics but I am rotting for some Wings hockey.

    Is Babcock a bad coach!?

Actually the team with the best individual players did win last night. Miller was phenomenal and the U.S. D were great, especially Raff which is good for him.Anybody watching the game could see that when Canada actually played with heart they were dominant, however Miller is just crazy...This guy can do what Hasek did in 98...Hopefully if Canada and the U.S. meet again somebody, probably Morrow, goes a little to hard to the net and rattles Miller. It could be the only way to get him of his game. I also agree that Germany could be in for a tough game on Tuesday night. quote name='sliverck' date='February 22, 2010 - 01:10PM' post='1900263'] The best TEAM won that game, not the team with the best individuals. Still, I haven't been happy with Babcock's coaching all year and he's not doing any favors for Team Canada. I just hope the USA doesn't let this go to their heads, not that I'm not happy to see Canada knocked off their pedestal in their "own" game. That being said, I do feel sorry for Germany.

Maltby back for one more year?

Would anybody else like to see Maltby brought back for one more year? He is a very low cap hit and is still an effective 4th liner or even 13th forward for that matter. He knows the system in Detroit as good as anybody and has already gotten used to being a sometimes player. Miller and Eaves, provided they are given contracts, are in line to take the roster spots of Draper and Maltby and can learn so much from the proven duo. I for one would like to see Maltby get one more year to play with Draper and the wings, especially if his season is cut short by his shoulder. It would be a disappointing way for him to go out. Perhaps my bias is blinding me. Excuse the spelling in the title, I just woke up.....

Maltby back for one more year?

Absolutely. I am not suggesting that hey resurrect the grind line and let them play tons of minutes, I am just saying that giving him a salary of less then a mil and let him be a part time player makes sense to me. Nobody can use the argument that Helm and Abdlekader need to replace Maltby because when Abdlekader was up with the wings they both got more ice time than Maltby. He is just a good utility player, with no adjustment time and a small cap hit.

Who will you support at the Olympics?

HAHA. I am a huge fan of Belarus ever since 2002 when they made Salo look like a dummy. I actually felt bad for Salo but I still laugh out loud when ever I see a video of that play. They're own goalie was outstanding in that game. GO Canada!

2/13 GDT: Senators 1 at Red Wings 4

Funny how Kronwall can play in the last game before the Olympics....wow what a coincidence in that timing, I'd go all in on Flip playing if the Olympics were two weeks away...This s*** bothers me. Where is the priority? I can't believe that the organization endorses it. I know I am negative and bitter, you do not need to tell me.

    Should Valtteri Filppula be traded?

Yeah, I figured that was a mistake. The only problem I have with Booth is that some of his hair is still frozen in the ice from when he got flattened last fall. Besides that, I agree that we are deep in the middle and Filppula would be good bait for a scoring winger. I also feel that Draper/Miller/Maltby is a solid line. For all the crap Maltby takes in this forum I think he is still a good grinding 4th liner and he is still a very effective PK'er. I for one would welcome him back for his experience and teaching opportunity if Miller and Eaves stick around.

    Should Valtteri Filppula be traded?

Wow. Just relegate Cleary to a fourth line whoever role? Surprising.

    Meech on the PP?

Meech on the PP makes me wonder if he won't be traded. Does Babs see something there or are they just stuck for somebody? Perhaps they are trying to show other teams that Meech has PP potential.

    Whatever happened to Markov?

Rafalski overpaid when we signed him??? That's madness.

Wings To Make Another Move This Week?

Hindsight is 20/20 isn't it, well for some people. Rafalski's numbers his first two seasons in Detroit definitely warranted his contract. He is still a consistent + player and although he is taken a slip in points this year (not as much as a few others on the wings) he is still a good D man. He certainly isn't the only wing not earning his money but does that mean they should trade all underachievers? People here consistently trash Rafalski for some reason. He would still be a top two dman on all but half a dozen teams and for his size is a ridiculous one on one defender...After his play the last two seasons, and his career for that matter, I think he deserves what he gets. Just my opinion. I was excited when we signed him and am still happy he is a wing.

2/6 GDT: Red Wings 3 at Kings 4

This team just lacks heart...It has been too easy for them the last few years and they have no idea how to respond to teams that might figure them out. Howard looked like an AHL goalie at best today. This is frustrating, there needs to be some kind of spark, hopefully Franzen coming back can get something going. P.S. Williams and Lebda need to go.

    Dear Babs:

Who stood Malkin up on the one on one late in the third?

1/31 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Penguins 2 (SO)

Detorit has to stop thinking that the emblem on the jersey is gonna win games for them. How many wrist shots can they take form just inside the blue line? I figured they would be up for a game like this, very disappointing so far. I wish Williams' leg was still broke.

Homer's struggles, Conklin wants to stay

He's a warrior. Imagine some people here want him gone. He's a winner, and he will be in Detroit again.

    Ken Holland

Me too! I can't believe that there are people that wouldn't want Hossa on this team. He obviously got great chemistry with a number of players. He didn't step up in the playoffs. Well shot him then. Geez...How many players and great ones at that, have had bad playoff years? You can't give up on a proven NHL superstar because he wasn't the answer to everything in one year. Look at some of the horrible years that some players on Detroit had. Look at Shanny. He nearly disappeared in 02. Nobody lynched him. I really hope we sign Hossa. We should be happy that a player of his caliber wants to be on the team and not only concerned with money. I bet if we give him another chance he easily becomes one of the favorites, he should be now.

    Marian Hossa Discussions

Everybody has a slump...Hossa has helped, not as much as everybody would like, but he has helped. I would love to have him here next year regardless. I bet if he scores tomorrow night and plays well then this thread turns to dust.

How To Handle Game 7 SCF?

Beer (lots of it), a pack of cigars, and a big pile of BBQ wings.

    Bench Rafalski

Of all guys to single out tonight? How about Hudler's weak play on the boards all game, or Samuelson's constant hail mary shots, or even Franzen's and Holmstrom's missed passes. Rafalski isn't going to be perfect all the time, nobody was tonight.

1955 posts for game 7 STANLEY CUP WIN!

We are going to win. No doubt. A case if too little too late tonight. Babcock will have them ready. They will not lose two in a row, Fleury looked shaken at the end of the game and barely got out of it. We got ouplayed and at first and then just ran out of time...I can't wait for friday. Let's Go Wings

SCF GAME 6 GDT: Red Wings 1 at Penguins 2

I agree!!! We got too many weapons for only 12 shots. We need a huge 3rd period. Ozzie is playing good enough to win us this game, maybe he can get a shot on net for us. Twenty minutes is plenty of time..Let's Go WINGS!!!
