I agree that it is a precautionary move but I have back issues myself and they can be very tricky. I hope it is only one game that he misses as I'm looking for his play to improve now that the contract is out of the way.

I miss Lapointe he was one of my favorites and i don't blame him for taking the large pay day. He knew that he wasn't going to be offered that type of money twice.

In my opinion a bit too long but who can really complain when it's for 6 mil a year. Great deal for all involved and I think this guarantees he's the future captain. GO WINGS!!

If it's such a big deal that they be there than all NHL players should be required to be there. That would be better for the fans and they could really turn the skills competition in to something special by allowing more players to take part.

Not for every fan but those that didn't normally watch hockey the thought of a possible team vs team brawl sucked them in. I live out here in Colorado and there were people that didn't watch a hockey game all year except for the four times a year these teams squared off. Why would that be? The possibility that a melee might break out had a LOT to do with that! But then there will always be fans like me and you that will watch hockey regardless of the rule changes. Like I said earlier part of the reason I got sucked in to hockey was watching Probert pound someones face in and then only have to serve a few minutes in the penalty box and then he was right back out there on the ice.

Well if it's for the fans then every player form every team should be there for all this off ice stuff. If you have an injury I just don't see the problem with skipping this event and rehabbing the injury where you feel comfortable.

Fans love fights, anyone who has gone to a game where a fight broke out should understand that. It's often the most excited the crowd gets in any given game. It's also what use to make the Wings Avs game a must watch.

I think 7 years would be just right.

Bob Probert is half the reason I started watching hockey, I'd be very sad to see fighting completely removed from the game. I was just watching some of Proberts fights on youtube the other day. No fighting = big mistake!!

People always have to trash someone and this year it's Filppula. I was happy when he signed his extension so I'm going to take a wait and see attitude. However if it comes down to Franzen or Flip, I'll take Franzen.

I'll be checking out the skills comp. It's the only part I enjoy from the ASG.

Well I see it more as the Wings being cautious with their best player. You can choose to see it however you want. We didn't loose the game because Datsyuk came out, we lost it because our Defense sucks lately.

Just shows you how silly the ASG really is. I'm glad our players will be resting and getting healthy instead of playing in a very meaningless game.

You're being ridiculous. Just because he's not seriously hurt doesn't mean that he shouldn't have come out of a meaningless regular season game to ensure he doesn't get seriously hurt and miss a bunch of time. He didn't come off the ice to miss the ASG. He had a hip flexor. He's our best player and they should be cautious with him.

I'm glad that it's nothing major and he should definitely sit out for the ASG. What the hell is going on with our defense lately?
