Why can't we all just get along and try to understand each other? Reading what OP wrote and maybe thinking about it for a few seconds before you post your reply goes a long way. On a serious note, thinking about the value of Wings' players this way, it makes you realize (once again) that Holland knows his business quite well. There are no Dustin Penners in the team as none of the players is overpayed much. Maybe Stuart could deserve $3 and Rafalski $5 millions, but those deals were made when the cap was still higher and no one knew it was going to drop. Besides sometimes you have to overpay players or you won't get anyone. Bertuzzi hasn't shown much yet, but it's still early in the season. If Holmström returns to his '07-'08 form he deserves his money. We'll see if he's able to overcome last season's injuries. Right now I'm not sure if Filppula is worth $3 millions, maybe he is, but in a couple of years he is worth it for sure. Leino and Ericsson are steals in my opinion as they already contribute, but it's not like they are 20-year-olds anyway. I've divided my list into three sections and inside the sections you could switch the players places somewhat. Leino Ericsson Osgood ... Datsyuk Zetterberg Lidström Franzén Kronwall Lilja Williams Cleary Helm Draper, Maltby, Eaves, May, Abdelkader, Lebda Meech, Howard... (good depth players with appropriately small cap hits) ... Filppula Holmström Bertuzzi Stuart Rafalski

I just realised that for the first time in I think 1,5 years Osgood's regular season GAA is under 3 and SV% over 90.

Silly me, I already replied to a poster here who wrote that Osgood gave some fans a puck through the hole. Duh. That's such a strange incident. Losing the game wasn't enough for Kovalev, but he also lost his stick. I agree. I remember when Caps were on PP that Ovechkin just carried the puck all the way from their zone into the offensive zone and I wondered how not even Datsyuk or Zetterberg are not able to do that. Wings PP had hard time in getting the puck into the zone while because of Ovechkin the Caps wasted very little time to get on offense. This might also be due to Wings' poor PK.

He wrote that before yesterday's game, so his sample pool was the season opener against St. Louis.

I knew the purpose of the holes. If I hadn't I would've been very puzzled as everything inside the rink has been built and designed to be as safe as possible (at least that's the idea). I don't think other leagues have those holes. If there are any brains behind them the holes must be small enough for the puck not to fit through. I remember the Kovalev incident, but I thought that the fan somehow got it over the glass.
-
That's cool. I've always wondered about the holes in the glass. Aren't they really dangerous for players? You would think that a player getting checked into the glass could easily get caught in one of those holes and hurt himself.

The Eastern Canadian teams (Ottawa, Montreal and Toronto) seem to be the most difficult places for players to be. The fans in Montreal and Toronto are crazy and bloodthirsty (in Detroit at least it takes a 8-2 loss before the fans revert to booing) while in Ottawa the players seem to be always fighting. Their latest incident included Neil and Spezza.

They played well, but didn't produce much offensively. There was one instance though when Dats and Hank made PK look like PP for half-a-minute or so. Their biggest achievement was keeping Caps' first line off the board. Team defense is what shone tonight. BJ's won Coytoes 2-0 and took the lead in the Central with six points.
-
Bloody hell, Kopecky scored in the shootout and Hawks won Avalanche. It took 8 shooters or so from both teams. Hawks took the lead in Central Division. "Is this the year?"
-
I'm actually looking forward to seeing how the team copes with this. Wings really need to push themselves even more to win games now. Losing a star player makes everyone try harder. Tonight's game against the Caps was exciting.

Smolenak made history two days ago by being Brad May's first fightee as a Red Wing. Smolenak was waived by Blackhawks and was claimed by Lightning. On September 25, 2009 Smolenak was waived by Lightning and was claimed by Blackhawks... I hope he didn't buy a house in Chicago yet. NHL.com

He must still be suffering from a trauma similar to what is hurting Bertuzzi's game. NHL.com referred to Jason WIlliams as Justin Williams. I've pumped into that mistake quite a few times already. Dumb...

Speculation is what keeps internet sports forums breathing.

Kings win 2-1 and take the lead in the Pacific Division.
-
2/5 of the mission accomplished. Ryan Miller with a shutout.
-
For one minute May worked as a scout for Stan Bowman.
-
Grier scores the first goal of the game in the 57th minute for Buffalo against Nashville.
-
Weird SH goal by Blues against Kings. First it seemed like it hit the crossbar and the play continued. Finally it was reviewed and the puck actually hit the backbar.

Biron's a good goalie. He has proved that he's an able number one goalie, but wouldn't win the job in half of the teams. He's had two good playoffs in '08 and '09. To say that Biron's worse than Cloutier is ridiculous. He's played better and longer in this league than Conklin and after all, he also would be just a back up for Osgood BTW, where did this speculation/rumour come from?

I think it was York, yes. Ryan Malone (of Tampa Bay) with a hat trick against the Canes.
-
She said that too, but this time TV said it when Ozzie's save on Ovechkin's shot was replayed.
-
Maybe he's saving his arms for the playoffs.
-
"Ozzie has a big toe and he's not afraid to use it."
-
Wings have been able to win two games with Lids, Hank, Dats being relatively quiet. When they get it going this team of course only gets better.

Yeah, he should know. Eaves played only 7:49, but I think he made his presence known whenever he was on the ice.
