I've noticed the same thing. It's like in his mind Wings were this unbeatable powerhouse team and a good storyline for the game is if some other team can beat the "Goliath". Wings are really tired but are still holding up. I hope they can get some energy back during the break.

Before the game people wanted Mrazek to start. Does this mean that Cleary will also score a goal tonight?

It's not necessarily Cleary's fault that Kopitar is a really good and strong player.

    Franzen spear on Perron

NHL doesn't suspend Franzén but instead chooses his hit from the previous Blues game as the number one hit of the week.

Tomas Tatar Is Jiri Hudler 2.0

Smith's been fine and we haven't yet really seen what Samuelsson and Gustavsson can offer. I'd be surprised though if this team was ever completely healed so they might be able to keep Tatar, Mrazek and Lashoff up for a long time.

    Franzen spear on Perron

I understand your opinion. I guess we just have different meanings for those words. To me they don't have much to do with muscles, knuckles and emotional reactions but quite the opposite. To me hitting back when you're hit is not manly, it's childish. Not giving to the pressure from fans, and "hockey tradition" and choosing not to hurt another person is what I would consider tough. This applies to hockey players and cladiators alike. This doesn't mean that I don't enjoy watching the occasional violence, blood and pain in hockey.

    Franzen spear on Perron

I can't take it seriously when words like "toughness" and "manliness" are mentioned when talking about hockey. It's a game after all and the players aren't facing any serious threats and struggles that most people do in their lives. Sure there are these unwritten rules (and millions of versions of them) by which Franzen should've acted here but what does that have to do with toughness? So he was pushed from behind in a hockey rink and what fans want him to do is to use his fists to hit the other player a few times in a seemingly menacing way but not seriously enough to kill the other player. "Hit the face not the testicles, use fists not stick, don't wear visor, don't wear gloves, don't celebrate afterwards if you've struck the other player down." It's a show and players are there to entertain. Being paid millions for playing hockey in America Is perhaps in the top 5% of the least toughness-requiring things in the world. Don't get so upset when Franzen acts like an emotional man-child humanbeing they all are.

    Emmerton

Many people here liked him. He just went and signed to a team with a more probable roster spot for him. I think Emmerton's been OK. He hasn't done much of anything but hasn't made many mistakes either. He provides nice depth since Wings seemingly has to have five regulars injured all the time. It's not much use now to talk about if he's lower in the depth chart than Miller, Eaves, Mursak and co. since Wings don't seem to ever be healthy enough to make it necessary to get rid of some of them.

2/1 GDT : Blues 3 at Red Wings 5 (Z with Hat Trick)

What I think is that refs were trying to give the game to Blues with that call. They knew that Wings PP is bad and killing a 5-minute penalty is a great confidence builder and a momentum shifter. Datsyuk just went and blew the refs' plan with that snipe.

    Nail Yakupov Goal Celebration.

Why are we even talking about this? Some of them good old unwritten rules in hockey are a bit, eh... like something that grandpa would say when his back is hurting again and he's bitter because he doesn't understand the world that's driven past him and left him behind.

Bert is Back! Mono test was false positive.

That's awful. I wonder if he got the mono too because of his age. Bertuzzi was bitter of the lockout saying how it would be difficult for an older player to come back if a season was lost. Season wasn't completely lost but now he has mono. Then there's the added strain of the law suit this spring. I wonder if this is his last season.

You're a genius. You better call Holland right now. Remember to tell him not to mention the age thing to Nieuwendyk.

The GDT looks great. But why is there "goals", "assists" etc. under Team Stats? Shouldn't it be "wins", "losses", "points" etc.? I can't wait for the game. The dumb thing is that I can't watch it live. I'll probably need to watch a recording of it tomorrow and stay away from all the hockey news all morning.

Bert is Back! Mono test was false positive.

The same old weak argument. Whenever something negative (injury, bad play) happens with older Wings it's because of their age. How do you explain Helm and Kindl's injuries? Groin injuries always happen during training camps. The camp was probably even more intensive than usual as they had to do it all in one week.
