I'm actually happy that there's a salary cap. This means that you can't buy success like you could in the past. You need to have a good front office and a good system to be successful for many years in a row and not just money. To me it's a bit cheap if your team wins only because it has a billionaire as an owner. If you try to just buy success nowadays there's a huge risk it will bite you in the butt (Gomez, Redden, Bryzgalov, DiPietro). -

I thought it was a possibility every season. Or did Wings have a guaranteed spot in the past? Oh well, fire Holland already. I think it's time. We have almost played one game this season. -
Ken Holland has stated Ken Holland stated last year that Cleary is "a Wing for life" like Draper, Maltby and co. Can't find the article but it was in MLive I think. So Cleary will be re-signed and this season determines his contract.

Two seasons ago he was Wings' best goalscorer. Last season he played with an injured leg and was in lots of pain. There was a surgery after last season and he should be okay now. You should wait until you see him actually play before making any judgements.

Mrazek was drafted in the fifth round while McCollum was drafted in the first round. Late first round picks are not sure things at all and that's why I am not upset that Wings traded one for Quincey last spring. -

Emmerton's playing for Saipa. He hurt his finger in the first period of his first game and didn't return. On the other SM-Liiga news: Filppula has played 9 games with Jokerit and has scored 4+5=9. His brother Ilari seems to be really tearing up with 7+12=19 in 12 games. Teemu Pulkkinen hasn't started the season too well with only 1+2=3 in 12 games.

I'm quite sure Shanahan knows he made mistakes with Lucic and Weber. He can't be that blind and not see what followed soon after those incidents. He can't reverse his calls but he can continue trying to do a good job. I have this image of Shanahan that unlike Campbell he can admit his mistakes but I wonder if he'll do that in public. -
