    Favorite Goalie Mask

He finally heard Kid Rock's music and buried the mask in his backyard at night.

    "Howard believes he's ready"

I'd like to see him play some games too. Now it just seems that he'll get to come up only if someone's on the 7-day IR, as the team has planned to carry 8 defencemen and 13 forwards.

    Hossa officially #81

Who was the Carolina player he beat there? The game was 4-1 so Atlanta fans had at least one thing to cheer about.

    Hossa sounds long term .

Teams that trade their stars away at the trade deadline are the ones who consider themselves to be out of the playoff race and look to rebuild through draft picks and prospects. Last season Atlanta, Tampa Bay and Los Angeles among others were in that situation. I suppose Holland sees Red Wings to be a playoff contender already. I wonder why.

Bowman: It'll be difficult to repeat

In the 80's when the last NHL dynasty (Edmonton) took place there were only 21 teams. Now there's almost 50% more. Another reasons include players coming outside the North America and now the salary cap. This has made more teams competitive. There are not just a couple of powerhouses at once anymore.

    McCarty offered contract

That's a very stupid cliché. Holland knows McCarty better so his decision with this is propably the best one. The training camp will most likely answer many questions.

Dan Boyle Traded To San Jose

Remember to take Carle out of that list. San Jose did well to replace Campbell with Blake and Boyle. It looks like their 7th and 8th defensemen (whoever they'll be) would crack the line-up on most teams. That sounds like Red Wings.

    Jagr signs in Russia

Interesting news. Penguins tried to get him. Now the only star player left is Sundin. It would be funny to see Sundin in Penguins. Pens have been all but losers this offseason, so it might be a good idea for them to try.

    McCarty offered contract

This is starting to sound like hip hop. I believe Holland more likely wants to keep as many of those defensemen as possible. If you can have one of Helm, McCarty and Downey as the 13th forward and the other two in the minors it'll work and doesn't sound bad at all to me. Helm got a roster spot because Kopecky was injured. When Kopecky comes back he'll most likely take his spot back. It'll be better for Helm to play in top two lines in AHL in Grand Rapids than sit in the press box in NHL.

    Doug "Dead Weight" to Islanders..

I think too that he's proven himself worthy enough to be on the roster. This projected third line should be very good: Cleary - Draper - Samuelsson

    Stuart Re-Signs: 4-years @ $3.75m per

This is nice news. It'll be interesting what happens with Chelios. I would've liked to see all the young GR defencemen grow up to be Wings, but that's almost impossible now. Now a second line winger would be nice too, but it's not necessary, especially if Drake comes back and McCarty or Downey is resigned. There are kids like Helm, Kopecky and Leino and at least the first two can play in 3rd or 4th line. I'm fine with either Samuelsson or Cleary in the second line with Filppula and Franzén.

    1998 WCF question

I suppose he meant what Belfour had said about Osgood before the handshake and even before the game. I found a nice article from '98: http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html...755C0A96E958260 When someone asked about Dallas goalie Ed Belfour calling Osgood lucky a few days ago, Osgood replied: ''It was his way of challenging me, to get me off my game. It didn't work. Maybe he thinks I'm young. I'm 25. I don't feel young, definitely.''

Does anyone want to tell me what happened there? I only know that it's something worth mentioning here, but not worth posting a video on Youtube.

    Let's Bring Back Markov

I liked Markov alot, but of course there's no room for his salary. Holland is right now asking for Stuart to take less than what he'd get elsewhere. The team needs room for forthcoming upgrades in the salaries of Zetterberg and Franzén. Plus, like many here mentioned, Red Wings have so many defensemen already. Danny and Andrei aren't brothers. Neither are all Smiths in USA.

NHL Network: '02 Game 6 vs Avs, right now!

It's really weird to watch the old games. I've been watching Detroit's important games from '97, '98 and '02 lately and the rule changes make the '08 Red Wings look more skilled. Players seem to be better in passing and there are more clean scoring chances. The shot amounts haven't gotten higher though and the goalies seem to be better too so the scores are still rather low. There were tight games especially against Colorado that brought the team together. This Spring the tightest battles seemed to be played defensively when Detroit tried to protect their lead in the third period. By the way, I had forgotten the strange team Washington had in '98. There were personalities like Dale Hunter, Chris Simon, Craig Berube and Esa Tikkanen.

    Jimmy Howard

I am very interested to see how Howard and Larsson play at the camp and preseason. I'd love to see either of them to earn 20-30 games next season. I don't think anyone here can say if they are NHL ready until they actually get to play there. The only problem is that if they both are very bad at the camp then it's propably too late to get a veteran backup. Most free agents are propably gone after July and getting a good goalie after that and before the trade deadline should be hard. I found a list of UFA goalies: Name Age Team 07-08 Salary Jose Theodore 30 COL $6,000,000 (How about it Holland?) Olaf Kolzig 37 WAS $5,450,000 Cristobal Huet 31 WAS $2,750,000 John Grahame 31 CAR $1,400,000 Johan Hedberg 34 ATL $1,150,000 Johan Holmqvist 29 DAL $1,000,000 Patrick Lalime 32 CHI $950,000 Jocelyn Thibault 32 BUF $760,000 Stephen Valiquette 29 NYR $635,000 David Aebischer 29 PHX $600,000 Alex Auld 26 BOS $600,000 Curtis Sanford 27 VAN $600,000 Michael Leighton 26 CAR $550,000 Jean-Sebastien Aubin 29 ANA $525,000 Mike Morrison 27 NJD $525,000 Fred Brathwaite 34 ATL $500,000 Frederic Cassivi 32 WAS $500,000 Scott Clemmensen 29 TOR $500,000 Ty Conklin 31 PIT $500,000 Dan Ellis 27 NAS $500,000 Jordan Sigalet 26 BOS $500,000 Wade Dubielewicz 28 NYI $500,000

    fallen cup

Thanks for the information. I propably confused it to the Finnish League championship trophy, which has been replaced with replicas many times as players have broken it while celebrating. It's no wonder as this trophy has wooden parts and resembles the Memorial Cup. Stanley Cup looks like it's been made for hockey players to celebrate with it.
